I don't think Hendry would put his job online by not making any other improvements to this team if he didn't think this Roberts deal would get done , and he could make his other corresponding move. Wait a minute.....you're saying Hendry's "job is online?" Somebody quick, apply for the job, now, before the Cubs reconsider..... :D I know what you're saying, and I agree. The fact that Brian Roberts have been available ALL OFFSEASON, and yet outside of the Cubs, and a minor burp from the Indians, nobody was consider a prime spot for Roberts. This leads me to believe that the Cubs/O's do have a deal in place (rough draft, sorta speak) they're just waiting for the O's to decide Bedard's fate. Because I can think of a few teams that could use Brian Roberts...White Sox, Mets (B4 they reupped Castillo), Padres (before they sign Igauchi), for prime example. So I agree that Hendry would not put his job on the line, waiting for the O's to make a decision on Roberts. I'm pretty sure the Cubs could've landed Hudson from Arizona (something like Barfield to Ari, Hudson to the Cubs, and a couple of minor league arms to Cleveland might have suffice). Or perhaps even Ray Durham---I know, yuck, but still he would be available, but he wouldn't be my choice. So yeah, consider me one who believes that Hendry/MacPhail have hammered out a deal, but both sides agreed to wait until the O's trades Bedard. Hence the little to no rumors surrounding the Cubs, other then Roberts.
