  1. Nah, don't want to steal thunder from preparations for the Pro Bowl or the Daytona 500. APPARENTLY, Adam Jones is on his way to Baltimore for his physical. But then again, we isn't he.
  2. Now that the Cubs have allow the NFL to have their day in the sun with the Super Bowl, when should we hear about a trade for Brian "Done Deal" Roberts?
  3. Here's the kicker...you don't have to HEAR them. Either mute them, or change the channel, like I will. But I SUPPOSED Mike and Mike will either having Don Shula and/or Mercury Morris on their show tomorrow morning, to which I will be......zzzzzzzzzzzzz.
  4. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Now maybe ESPN can talk about an NFL team OTHER then NE. yes
  5. You don't like the Giants, I cannot stand the Pats. I feel they haven't earn their "perfect record, and that they needed to cheat to get where they are at. I'm not so much rooting for the Giants, in that I am rooting against those D....ouchebags in NE.
  6. No way they kick a field goal at this point. Agreed. Perfect scenerio would be the the clock down, and score with no time left. But oh well....
  7. No it wouldn't. The Cards had NO BUSINESS being the playoffs in 2006, much less winning the World Series. The Giants on the other hand would have earn it. Winning something like 11 in a row on the road, and beating TB/Dallas/GB in route to the Super Bowl, tells me, they want it. Much like the Steelers of a couple of yrs back. Don't even compare the joke of the 06 Cards to this yr's Giants team, cause they are not comparable. Sure, whatever.. "They want it" The second lowest seed in the NFC winning the Super Bowl is a joke. Flukes like that will happen now and then, but it still pisses me off when a team that's nowhere near the best wins a championship. I don't know about you but going into the playoffs, if I was going to rank the NFC teams in terms of how good I thought they were, I would have put the Giants third behind the Cowboys and Packers. Just because they're the fifth seed doesn't mean they're the fifth best team in the conference. Agreed. The Giants are CLEARY better then both Seattle and Tampa Bay. And the only reason why NY had to play on the road, was because they were not their division champ. And looking back at it....despite being swept by the Boys, you can argue the Giants are the best team in the NFC this yr.

Pats are good, but in no way are the 19-0 good. There are alot of teams I would be disappointed in winning championships, but this Giants team would not even make the Top 15 Disappointing Champs.

  10. Well...my comment is a double edge comment. It was meant to be sarcastic and wishful thinking, roll into one. But if that happens, I pretty sure Hendry is not going to want 4 lefties, so I supposed HE COULD trade either Hill AND/OR Marshall to make room for Sabathia. That's besides the point, seeing as I don't expect the Cubs to make a move for CC.
  11. I just wished, both sides would have spearated on better terms. But it goes to show, while not as bad as NY, Boston, or perhaps Philly, Chicago is a tough place to play, and you need to be mentally tough. Am I calling Prior mentally soft....no, but I don't think his personality fit Chicago. Prior needed a more relaxed atmosphere...enter SD.
  12. In Atlanta: Of course, the Cubs....like 5 games since 1988. (Including Dawson's or maybe it was Sandberg, all I know it was a great night) 2 homerun game back at the ol Fulton County Stadium. But the BEST game I've saw was: Dominican Republic .v. Venzuela (sp?) in the World Baseball Classic. I remember that the DR was heavily favored in that game (I believe the DR had Pujols/Alou/Vlad, I believe). And the guy on the mound for Team Venzuela.....was our guy, Carlos Zambrano. And anybody who's never seen Zambrano up close, and/or pitch live...he is a BIGGGGGGGGGG guy. The game was played at the Spring Training Complex in Orlando. The game was electric. The atmosphere was simply superb. I remember the game was being watch closely and cheer loudly on every pitch. But when the SHOWDOWN happen, that's when the intensity level of the fans INCREASED. It was the Z .v. Pujols showdown. But fan bases was on every pitch, rooting/booing. The at-bat turned into a walk for Pujols. Miguel Cabrera homered for Venz....but the game went to DR, but I didn't care...the game felt like a WORLD SERIES game. I know the topic was about teasm that we've seen in person, so I included the WBC matchup, seeing as I haven't been to too many PRO games in my lifetime.
  13. Who else here was EXTREMELY excited the day that Mark Prior was drafted? Now THAT was a great day. I remember watching Prior pitch well against Georgia in the College World Series, and thought, man this kid is going to be "IT."
  14. Signed by Mark Cuban's Cubs. We can finally have a 4/5ths rotation of all lefties. I am looking forward to that.........
  15. I would take Ward over Casey, in the simple fact that Casey is a 1st baseman/DH and that's it. Atleast in a pinch, Ward could play some LF/RF. (Note: I said in a pinch) Casey brings a nice BA/OBP, but Ward in my opinion, brings more power for the late inning. So, yeah, I prolly would take Ward over Casey. With that said, this is a decent (not shrewd) signing by Theo. Getting Ortiz for nothing....shrewd...signing Casey off the scrap heat, not screwed, but a decent signing.
  16. 1: It is the political season, maybe they needed a new "Mayor" candidate? 2: This signing is ALL about the grit.
  17. I know why - because Hendry is the only one who will pay such a ridiculous price for Roberts. I noticed you mentioned comparables at second base that were traded that got worse packages. Can you help me figure out who those are? Second basemen who have had one great year, one very good year, and one average year over the last 3? Second basemen who still have 2 years left on their contract at a reasonable rate? Second basemen who are in the late prime of their career? Now I don't want for you to read the last paragraph and think that I believe that Roberts is this amazing player. He's not. Quality 2nd basemen at this stage of their career just don't get traded very often though, and I'm having a hard time finding any comparable situation for the Roberts deal within the last 5 years, let alone the last 3 years. Maybe I'm missing some obvious ones, but I just can't find any. All I was saying, and I hope people got it is that there were plenty of teams that had needs for 2B, and yet all you heard about Roberts was to the Cubs....outside of a burp from the Indians. Some decided to keep current options (Mets) and others went another direction (Padres) In other words...either those teams did not believe Roberts did not believe would become available, and those teams felt MacPhail may have already has mind set up to whom who would deal with for Roberts. Now that is just speculation on my part.
  18. They'll get it done. Can you imagine the carnage that could be done if the Mets (Minaya, specifically) got all this way with Santana, only to lose him because of money? Minaya would have to put his resignation NOW, and he would never be accepted back in NY ever again. In other words...expect it to get done. Too much is on the line now.
  19. Yeah......well he has to try and displaced this Arod kid, that everybody says is real good.
  20. That's what makes Luis so brutal. He's terrible with young guys. He pissed and moaned as he left Arizona about the team turning to young guys, and he pissed and moaned even louder in LA DURING THE SEASON about the team melting down because a bunch of guys not ready for the show were up there. Of course those rookies were the ones hauling Luis's worthless ass to anywhere close to contention. But to be fair to Lugo, Jeff Kent was also a strong opponent of the young players. So it wasn't just Luis Gonzalez. Well everyone knows Jeff Kent is a jackass. Yeah, well....that's an insult to Jackasses everywhere.
  21. So would Marquis I think Larry Rothschild, might have a fit.
  22. I don't think Hendry would put his job online by not making any other improvements to this team if he didn't think this Roberts deal would get done , and he could make his other corresponding move. Wait a minute.....you're saying Hendry's "job is online?" Somebody quick, apply for the job, now, before the Cubs reconsider..... :D I know what you're saying, and I agree. The fact that Brian Roberts have been available ALL OFFSEASON, and yet outside of the Cubs, and a minor burp from the Indians, nobody was consider a prime spot for Roberts. This leads me to believe that the Cubs/O's do have a deal in place (rough draft, sorta speak) they're just waiting for the O's to decide Bedard's fate. Because I can think of a few teams that could use Brian Roberts...White Sox, Mets (B4 they reupped Castillo), Padres (before they sign Igauchi), for prime example. So I agree that Hendry would not put his job on the line, waiting for the O's to make a decision on Roberts. I'm pretty sure the Cubs could've landed Hudson from Arizona (something like Barfield to Ari, Hudson to the Cubs, and a couple of minor league arms to Cleveland might have suffice). Or perhaps even Ray Durham---I know, yuck, but still he would be available, but he wouldn't be my choice. So yeah, consider me one who believes that Hendry/MacPhail have hammered out a deal, but both sides agreed to wait until the O's trades Bedard. Hence the little to no rumors surrounding the Cubs, other then Roberts.

  24. What I found funny was Josh Beckett (and the Reno Astros) thought Fukudome was arrogant, and yet Josh Beckett showed up to the tourney wearing a Leatherman's Jacket with the word "Phenom" on it? Man, talk about the pot calling the kettle black (or whoever that sayign goes). But it was a pretty solid video of their first encounters.
  25. Sissy. I didn't say that would stop me from drinking it, did I? Going from talking about possibly getting Brian Roberts to talking about Rum.....Boy this is a fun thread....
