    The money is similar (Sori averages atleast 16 mill per till 2014, and Drew's is $14 mill per till 2011). The differences is three yrs. Which means BoSox would want the Cubs to take Lugo ($9 mill per yr till 2011) along with Drew. Which means, the BoSox would have to take Jason Marquis ($9.9 for 2009) only), along with Soriano. So the deal would have to be Soriano/Marquis for Drew/Lugo. This would only work, if the Cubs can flip Lugo to another team, cause the Cubs don't need Lugo.

    He's got a ways to catch Cedeno's .957. doesn't matter... you don't bench a guy OPS'ing .893. lol, you're still holding on to theriot, huh? it has nothing to do with that. teams with a 14-6 record and a SS who is hitting the ball well don't just bench that shortstop and cause problems in the clubhouse. you stick with what's working. i like the idea of allowing cedeno to rotate in more if he continues to produce at a good level. theriot struggled (probably wore down) the last month or two of last season, and derosa has also seen a decline in his numbers after the all-star break in each of the last two years. as long as you've got three relatively productive players, use somewhat of a 3-man rotation (with derosa having the fewest days off probably) and keep them fresh for the whole year. that way you can also get more of a handle on whether cedeno actually is a good player. I like the rotation of Cedeno in and out with DeRo and Theriot. Because by the time DeRo contract is up, then the Cubs should no for a FACT what kind of player Cedeno is, and will be comfortable giving him a starting spot in 2010, prolly at SS with Theriot moving to 2B.

    Cubs like Blanton. Maybe near the deadline. I would also like a good loogy. Marte of the Cubs AAA affiliate the Pittsburgh Pirates, should be available for call up. :D

    Only to those teams needing a 3rd baseman. I like Wright, but if the Cubs didn't have ARam, I don't know if I would offer Wrigt more then what ARam got from the Cubs. And seeing as his numbers, while slightly better, are not, IMO, worth what ARod is getting. David Wright: .312/.391/.538 A Rodriguez: .306/.389/.578 But then again..............I would have to reconsider. But considering Wright isn't consider a Top 5 player, I would prolly pay him closer to ManRam contract then ARods.

    Only if the Cubs could then flip Lugo to another team (perhaps Lugo, if some of the money is kicked in). Which I doubt.

    I wonder if a team like the Giants might be interested in Fontenot? As you said, with Cedeno/Theriot/DeRosa at the 2b/ss in Chicago, and Eric Patterson at AAA, I don't see the reason to keep Fontenot once Soriano returns.

    It will continue until MLB umpires are held accountable for their calls on the field. Not the worst call ever, though. That would probably be the call at 1st base in the 1985 World Series with Dane Iorg. Or what about Kent Hrbek bodyslamming Ron Gant off of first base, and the ump at the time---Drew Coble---rules Gant out. That was as big of a blown call as the KC/Cards 1985 WS.

    Definately. Coors is definately a place the Cubs should let Pie have 2 starts (2 game series I believe) and continue to build his confidence as a hitter. But seeing as Morales--a lefty---is starting one of the games, I doubt we'll see Pie until late in the game. But 2nd game against Cook, Pie needs to be in THAT game.

    The Cards only have one good pitcher coming back and that is Chris Carpenter. Mark Mulder was sucking before the injury. And even then, it will prolly take Carpenter half the season, when he does return, before he bcomes the Chris Carpenter that was feared. Or maybe that Carp won't return till next yr. Clement, I love the guy, I don't see him giving the Cards anything much this yr. And there isn't anybody else that on the Cards DL that would make the impact to make this a "3 horse race."

    I agree. But come July, the Cubs seriously have to consider getting a legit #2, and Burnett, IMO, should be the best available, and healthy. That is unless, Lilly and/or Hill can get back on track and simply just dominate between now and July. Which wouldn't piss me off.

    I watched the play as it happen, and I was livid. If I was the Braves, I would have filed an immeidate protest against that ump. Don't wait till after the game, print off the best possible picture and sent it to Selig's office. I know the Braves won the game, but Selig needs to nip this in the bud, before a crucial game later in the season, is filled with contreversy. That ump needs to be punish for a blatant miss call. He can't say he was too far away from the bag, or the play was close. No-no. He saw Escobar pass first base before the ball got there. Selig needs to be proactive (NHL style) and correct this before it costs a team a crucial game.

    I think Lou knows how well the lineup is working currently, and IMO, I believe Piniella is looking at the 5 or 6 hole for Soriano when he returns. Johnson and Theriot is currently working at the top of the order. And if that starts to faulter, then I would consider moving Soriano back up to the top of the order, but when Soriano comes off the DL, he should be put at 5 or 6, preferably 6. And if Soriano is a team player, then he takes to the spot in the lineup, and make it work.

    It warms the heart of this Cub fan, that they Cubs may, and let me stress may, have three homegrown position players developing before our ours. You know who they are. And I think most would have agreed before the season, that if the Cubs hd a chance to do something this yr, it wouldn't be because of Lee/ARam/DeRo/Theriot/Soriano, etc. We knew, or kinda knew what those guys were going to bring to the table. The questions where Soto/Pie/Cedeno, and to a lesser degree Fuku. I know it's early, but I'm hoping those three can continue to build off the successful April that they are seeing.

    Even tho, I doubt the Cubs could have match the Mets offer, I do believe the Twins did a disservice to Johan and to their organization, by not considering what the Cubs could have, would have offered for Johan. I know, Johan had wanted to be on the East Coast, but I doubt he would have turned down the opportunity to pitch in the 2nd (or 3rd biggest market) in baseball, especially knowing he would be teaming up with Carlos Zambrano. If that would have happen, then all the Cubs would have asked for from Lilly/Hill/Dempster/Marquis (whoever made the rotation) to pitch league average at their spot of the rotation. It played out, like it did, and the Cubs could realistically still have enough bullets, to land a pitcher at the deadline (Blanton or Burnett).

    isnt his elbow screwed up? Why would tony do that? If you are going to stick someone at 2nd who can't play it, wouldn't you go with someone other than your franchise player? If it was me, I'd have put Schumaker at 2B (he played SS and 2B in college) and Larue in left, leaving Pujols and his gimpy arm at 1B. I would never move Pujols until he gets his arm fixed. Why tempt fate? B/c LaRussa want to get the legendary Jason LaRue into the game?
