  1. I don't like Edmonds personally, but I respect his game. With that said, I won't call him the most overrated defensive CF in the last 25 yrs, but I wouldn't call him the best defensive CF, either. As someone else mentioned, I would take Torii Hunter, Andruw Jones, Gary Matthews, Jr, KGriffey JR, Mike Cameron, Ichiro, over Edmonds in the past 25 yrs, defensively in CF. I would put Edmonds in the very good defensively CF spot, but not the "special" catergory, only because Edmonds was more hype the substance.
  2. Then we have no use for Spider-Man then....Shoot......
  3. I think this collusion talk is just pure horse hockey pooh. I mean, let's look at it reasonably....he can barely walk much less play an adequate LF for a NL team, more then 80 games a yr. Plus his age and his recent injury concerns, and it's likely he would take a couple of trips to the DL over the course of the season. On top of that, he's likely asking for $10 mill. No surprise no NL team wants a platoon partner for $10 mill. Let's say the AL: Most teams that need a DH are the lower teams of the AL (ie Rangers/Royals/Orioles/Rays) and the teams that has a chance for a championship, already have DH's. Tigers (Sheffield and Ordonez), Red Sox (Ortiz), Yankees (Giambi), Indians (Hafner), Angels (Anderson), White Sox (Thome), A's (Thomas), Mariners (Sexson and Vidro). The teams that need a DH, don't want to spend the money on a headache that is Bonds, and the teams that are in position to win, don't need a DH, because of the distraction he would bring with him to each city. In other words.....it's not collusion, it's Bonds attitude that finally drove him out of baseball. In other words....this is a waste of time for MLBPA. I understand they have to do it, to protect their players, but is a waste of time.
  4. I bet both parties will settle in the $5 mill range. D'Antoni definately does not want to go to NY, and it's made clear he is strictly using the Knicks as leverage. Not to mention, it seems to me the Knicks has Mark Jackson ticketed for the job, unless Avery blows them away.
  5. No I wouldn't. I know Dunn is phenominal masher, but he's a DH playing the field, much like Carlos Lee. I still value defense over offense, over the course of a season. Plus when you take into account the fact that either Soriano or Dunn would be moved to RF, with Fuku moved to CF, I don't Dunn's offense, makes up for as bad that OF defense would be. Give me Milton Bradley. so for a left-fielder their defense is more valuable than their offense? huh? That didn't make much sense either. Dunn has improved on his defense greatly the last two years as well. Granted, he has an arm that Juan Pierre would be proud of. What I mean is....I value defense moreso then offense. I am believer in the hitting wins games, but pitching and defense wins championship school of thought. I just don't believe Dunn is good enough a masher to warrant having to "hold your breathe" every time a fly ball is hit his way. Now, if the Cubs didn't have Derrek Lee at 1st, I would love to have Dunn at 1st base, but in the OF, I prefer players who are defensively capable. That's why I prefer Bradley to Dunn. Bradley will give you a line similar to his careers #'s of .274/.360/.441 and anywhere from 10-20 homeruns, 15-35 doubles, and the ability to play good defense. The Cubs don't necessarily need another masher, what the need is another good hitter, which Bradley is.
  6. Bonds wouldn't get out of bed for that much. Well considering he isn't getting any offers right now to play....I can't see how he wouldn't take any kind of deal, especially if he wants to play again. But if he thinks he can get a better deal (RIGHT NOW, it is unlikely) by waiting till the July deadline, to see if any injury occurs,s o be it, but right now, I doubt anybody is going to offer more the prorated $7 mill dollars for Bonds.
  8. Gee this is breaking news.... What are the Cubs going to give up? Lets start with Felix Pie. That would be a NO to either player. But Junior and Dunn has "American League DH" written all over them. No thanks. Felix Pie for Jay Bruce????
  9. If KW would go for 3/21 I would be esctatic. I mean you have Rivera/Wagner/Ryan/Cordero/Gagne/Nathan over $9 million per yr. Some are worth it, some are not, but if KW would take $7 mill per, I would gladly would sign him to that deal.
  10. What I learned today, is that the Cubs have a less then 35% chance of winning a game not started by Zambrano. Man, its' only 7 days removed from April, but dang, the great play in April seems like 100 yrs ago, now.
  11. I don't see Wood leaving Chicago, unless the Cubs no longer wants him. If Wood pitches well, I can't imagine them not wanting him back.
  12. The Cubs on the RIGHT SIDE of a 4 pitch inning? :-k
  13. He has been so far. But I can't imagine he'll end up being better than the Russel Martins and Joe Mauers of the world. Mauer is prolly a little better pure hitter then Soto, and Martin is a better athlete then Soto, and Geo is definately in the same class of "game callers" as both, regardless of talent. And Soto has more power then both, so yeah, I could him being better then both catchers, at the very worse, definately in their class.
  14. I have to say, I'm excited/intrigued about seeing D'Antoni's system and how it would work with the Bulls' personnel. People seemed to always compare the Bulls to the Suns the past few years due to the jump shooting and all that, but Skiles was obviously running a lot more half court offensive sets. The run n' gun style should be exciting. I hate to make the comparison, because Nash is an MVP, but if you look at his numbers at around the same age, they're very similar to Hinrich's. Nash really flourished under D'Antoni, and people seem to forget that he was "just" a very good PG with a couple all star appearances before going to Phoenix and suddenly exploding after age 30 into an MVP type of player. I'm not saying Hinrich would make that same massive jump, because that would be asking a lot and nobody is Steve Nash, but I could see him really benefiting from the system. I do have concerns about his emphasis on defense, but the Bulls at least have players who are already considered to be strong defensive players. D'Antoni's playoff record concerns me, too. That said, if nothing else, it could be a lot of fun to watch. I have games like the Denver game from this last year in mind (obviously they shot out of their minds, but yea). I kinda rambled a lot more than I had intended to there, but thoughts? The only reason why getting D'Antoni makes sense for the Bulls, if they decide to make some serious changes. If D'antoni is the guy, then the 1st player the Bulls should target is TJ Ford (provided the Bulls don't luck into Derrick Rose). He's the kind of push the O kind of PG that makes D'Antoni's system go.
  15. This would be the perfect time for the "Patience Cub" to show up.
  16. Felix Pie your ticket is punch for Iowa.
  17. IDK about that. The Bears still has there defense that went to the Super Bowl sans Chris Harris. Position by position defensively, the Bears and Vikes are equal. The Bears have the better or more talented secondary, both have very good linebackers. The Bears have the best DT, but the Vikes have a more talented DL, but the Bears is slightly deeper. The difference, the Bears went from Rivera to Babich lst yr. I expect the defense to return to glory in 2008. All in all, the Bears=Vikes defensively. Offensively, the Vikes do have a better line, and better RB. But like the Bears, the QB and WR are BIG ??? for the Vikes. Grossman/Orton .v. Jackson/Ferrotte/JD booty. No advantage. Rice/Nance/Berrian/Wade and Robert Ferguson .v. Booker/Hester/Bradley/Bennett/Davis (or whoever makes the team for both teams). So, outside of the OL/RB I don't see where you can argue that the Vikes are a better team, on paper or on the field.
  18. Well we are facing Harang, Cueto and Voloquez so yeah. 1 out of 3 would be lucky. I assume the Cubs are countering with (in no particular order) Z/Dempster, and I presume Jon Lieber? I amre reasonably confident, the Cubs should take two of three from the Reds. I didn't say they will, I'm saying the Cubs should take all three.
  19. $ It didn't stop the D'Backs from DFA'ing Russ Ortiza couple of yrs back, even tho the organization was in turrible debt. So, the Cubs not removing Marquis from the rotation, or simply not being relased, isn't a product of them being "cheap", it's about ego. Hendry wants to prove people wrong that he can sign quality talent, But the problem there is.....if Dave Duncan/TLA and Mazzone/Cox both gave up on the pitcher, what makes Hendry believes he can catch lightning in the bottle. Everybody knows that what is best for the org, is to DFA him now, cut your losses, and replace Marquis with Gallagher, Hill, or Marshall. But seeing as Hendry and Piniella have to much pride to acknowledge the mistake that is Jason Marquis, we won't see Marquis leave Chicago, till after 2009.
  20. I going to say it.......the Cubs will end up winning this game. I don't know why, but something tells me, the Cards are going to give this game to the Cubs. As for Marquis, dude, you need to stop poking the bear, by walking crappy players in front of Pujols.
  21. leadoff spot: needs a player to be productive. Sorry I know: not a productive, outside of those streak. Piniella: Only guy in the org who thinks "Sorry I know" should bat in a productive spot. If Piniella is going to work closely with Pie, plus call up Dave Keller, then Soriano should be forced to attend these sessions. Because there is absolutely NO REASON why any pitcher should ever throw "Sorry I know" a FB.
  22. Yeah, but I seriously doubt that friendship will play a role in the sell of the franchise. If Canning doesn't outbid Cuban, then I promise people Zell will take Cuban's offer. Owners like Cuban is good for baseball, because they will always try to put the best product on the field.
  23. Don't insult Dempster here. Ferrells' impersonation of Harry, is nowhere near the quality of Dempster.
  24. Zell is the kind of guy who want sell to Selig's guy Canning, just because Selig whispers "sweet nothing" is Sam's ear. Zell will definately take the best offer, period, I don't see how Canning will make anything Cuban offers.
  25. The hilarity of rotoworld, knows no bound. And what makes the site great, is they are more knowledgeable about the players, then the manager of said players. Yeah, lets drop the guy who gets on base at a ridiculous rate, and move up the guy who is slugging averagely.(I know, I know not a word). Where is reds44?
