  1. It still so much better than it being the Yankees though. To me, no it's not. And Papelbon's a punk. For the past 10 yrs, the Red Sox have treated the Rays as their punching bags, and when the Rays finally stand up for themselves, Papelbon doesn't like it? Paplebon's a punk. Hey Jon, it was YOUR team that started. The Rays just ended it. One thing for sure, the Rays are inside the Red Sox heads. Plus the Red Sox came off as the arrogant bully, that needs to be put down. I am hoping the Rays can win that division so that both the Red Sox and the Yankees are at home watching the playoffs. Both the bottomline is this....Boston is a douchebag city, with douchebag fans, and idiots players.
  2. I thought I heard somewhere that Lou didn't want to tinker with Theriot, and that he wanted to leave Theriot at #2?
  3. Just like the roadtrip through SD/LA, I hope and expect the Cubs to go atleast 3-3 on this roadtrip through Toronto and TB. I know it will be tougher, but with the way Cubs have played, it wouldn't surprise me.
  4. Or it's just because Patterson has been outperforming Murton in Iowa. I don't really see the anger over Patterson being called up. I'm glad. I've always defended Murton and think it's ridiculous the way the organization has jerked him around, but he didn't really earn this callup. If He was putting up his 2007 Iowa numbers right now, then it would be different. As someone else said, a 26 year old corner outfielder who is slugging under .400 and OPSing just over .800 in the PCL doesn't deserve to be called up, I don't care what has happened in the past. He's experienced enough in AAA and at the major league level that he should be ripping up the pitching down there. Not to mention Patterson offers more versatility then Murton. Matt, likeable as he is...is a LF, plain and simple. Whereas Eric, can play 2b, to which Lou could put Dero in LF, and is, IMO a significant upgrade over Fontenot. Or Lou could put Eric in LF, and leave DeRo at 2B. Or on occasions, Lou can put Patterson in CF. I like Murton, and I don't like how he was handled by the Cubs, but he is done with the Cubs IMO. The best bet for Murton and the Cubs is to move him to a team that can use him.
  5. Nick Swisher getting hit by a train was so sad. :( He said "a legit center fielder". Nick Swisher can be called alot of things, but a CFer he is not.
  6. Damn work. I had to go to work before "The Edmonds" moment happen. Bloody hell. Oh wait, I got it on DVR..... With that said, has Jim Edmonds officially became a Cub yet? Personally, his homerun in the ninth, has officially made him a Cub now.
  7. Ok offense, Marmol and Eyre gave you a chance to bust out this inning. Don't let their good work go to waste.
  8. If it is, it is. The important thing is, the Cubs took the series. Sweeps are fun, and if the Cubs can get a sweep great. But winning series, are important. If this is a loss, then it is.
  9. What? You never have to double switch. The lineup was going to be turned over regardless. I understand that, but like Baker, Piniella does have a habit to double switch (remember the game he double switch Derrek Lee out of the game?), and if that option is not present to Piniella, the better.
  10. I like that move. Because now, Piniella can now take out Zambrano and bring in a reliever, without having to double-switch. It didn't work out, but the Cubs do have their order turned over for the 8th, and I have feeling the Cubs will score 3 in the 8th. Seeing Z in the 8th inning, is the bad move. Letting Z hit in the 7th no so much.
  11. Don't. Ok..........I won't. But I see other people did mention it. :D
  12. But atleast it would be to a legitimate good MLB pitcher in Hudson, not to some jabroni like Rodriguez, or Chuck James, etc, etc.
  13. Eckstein means "cornerstone" in German. (The More you Know theme now plays)
  14. If that's what you want to believe then go ahead. But teams don't put in a lot of money into the draft for nothing. And the draft is still a crapshoot. There been great picks early (Arod/Chipper, etc, etc) and great picks late (Piazza). There been plenty of "highly thought of players" draft high, who busted. So just because they were "once highly thought of" doesn't mean anything. With that said, guys like Luis Gonzalez (4th rd/88 draft), Steve Finley (11th rd/86 draft), Edgar Martinez, all developed late in their careers. So as much moaning and groaning we can have over players like Ryan Ludwick having, in essence, a career yr, it could also means he might finally be putting it together. Personally, I'm hoping it's a career yr, and he struggles---like his teammates---without Pujols.
  15. I disagree Vance Rich Hill. I don't see Hill being the centerpiece, seeing as they have three Top 10 prospects that are lefties (Lofgren, Laffey, and Huff) plus not counting Sabathia, the Indians have two other lefties in their rotation in Cliff Lee and Jeremy Sowers. They only reason why they would want Hill, is if they could flip say someone like Sowers to another team for a bat. Not to mention, Hill has very little trade value. So, if the Indians were to want a lefty pitcher in the deal, IMO, they would ask for Sean Marshall over Rich Hill. With that said, as much as I want CC, I don't know if we are a good fit for a trade, unless Hendry can pull a third team into the discussion, ala "The Nomar trade."
  16. The difference is...the Cubs have the depth to cover for Soriano, whereas the lack of talent for the Cubs will eventually show up. I expect the Cubs to pick up at least 4 games while Pujols is on the DL.
  17. So is Carlos Zambrano. The fact is since his debut in 2001, CC has pitched in atleast 180 innings (BTB; Z has pitched in 200 innings atleast 5 times in his career). And the only yr in which he didn't hit 30 starts, was 2006, when he hit 28 starts. Which means, despite his size, he is extremely durable. So I'm not worried about CC's size.
  18. This is the full statement, you are referring to. He's not laughing at a trade to the Cubs, he's laughing off the swirling rumors of a potential trade. It's clear he hasn't been asked to waive his NTC. Because I would find it hard to believe that Gil Meche, a guy a one time All-Star with a career 4.50era/1.41Whip would turn down a trade to division leader. But I doubt that's true, considering he once considered signing with the Cubs. With that said, I'm not really in favor a pitcher (Meche), who according to baseballreference closly resembles both Ted Lilly and Jason Marquis in terms of career numbers. I thought the Cubs should get an upgrade, not another "like" pitcher. So, I hope the Cubs go for bigger fishes then Meche.
  19. If the Cubs could land CC, and Fuentes before the deadline, you have to believe the Cubs would be the head on favorite in the NL. Z/CC/Demspter/Lilly/Marquis (I assume Hill and/or Gallagher and/or Marshall will be dealt to make it happen) in the rotation. Lieber/Weurtz Eyre/Howry Marmol/Fuentes Wood That would be the bullpen, and the backend would arguably be the nastiest backend in baseball, in yrs. If this is indeed our yr, then we should get both guys.
  20. I went with Sabathia, because he is a better fit to staying healthy for the remainder of the yr. In his career, CC has average 29 starts per yr. Whereas Harden has averaged only 14 starts per yr. And get the feeling that Harden is Oakland's version of Prior, in that he is a mega talented pitcher, who can't stay healthy. Harden has one club option left on his contract with the A's and CC is a FA after the yr. You can't go wrong with either pitcher, but going after Harden, would be an extremely risky, considering all the time and effort spent trying to keep Prior healthy. If the Cubs landed Harden (I would offer only two good prospects for Harden, nothing more) I would be thrilled. But I think the #1 option has to be CC, without a doubt.
  21. Same here, BUT he shouldn't be a deal breaker either. Besides, trade your four best prospects (admitted, not as strong as others, but Gallagher/Marshall/Pie/Ceda) to get that impact starter, to compliment Z. You can either re-sign CC at the end of the yr, or you can let CC go and get two picks in return, to help restock the farm system. I feel alot more confident going into the playoffs with Z/CC/Dempster/Lilly then Z/Lilly/Dempster/Marquis. There is no future, if you don't win today, imo.
  22. I agree. You can't call Vinny a turrible hire, yet. What you can do is call it a turrible process to get to this point. You have 6 months to find the coach, not to mention you have an owner who has no clue on how to run an organization, overstepping his boundries in the coaching hire. I understand it is JR's team (he should sell the dang team) and he should have a say in matter, but he should trust Paxson decision. And seeing as he overturn Paxson twice in this process, leads me to believe that JR wanted a CHEAP coach. And what else would you call whiffing on DA/Collins and signing Vinny? IMO, Paxson is nothing more then a figurehead with no real authority in the organization.
  23. Wait a minute.......there is a baseball game on? :-k I can't tell, with Joe and Jon going off on different topics, NOT........related to baseball. And I learn something from ESPN.........that Game 2 of the NBA Finals was playing tonight. I DID not know that.
