  1. Even if it is, this is the Padres we're talking about here. They still have a decent enough core offensive players (Gerut/Hairston/Giles/Gonzalez/Kouz) to atleast make CC have to work abit, unlike the FRAKKING Nationals.
  2. Isn't it about time for CC to have a very crappy start?
  3. I just watch the game on DVR and my thoughts: 1: On the Soriano's "turning a double into a single" : That can't be accepted. I don't care if it's the playoffs, or just a early August game. I don't care if Soriano doesn't bust his chops getting out of the box on what he thinks is a homerun, but essentially posing is something I'm not a fan off. Don't hustle out of the box, I could live with---not a fan of, but could live with---but posing, I do not like. And I am pretty sure Lou isn't a fan of the "posing." 2: As for the the 9th inning drama with Soriano and Bueno: My god, did the Cubs take a bathroom break on each and every Braves players cornflakes or what? It seems to me that every time the Cubs have come to Atlanta there is an incident. I know Soriano hit 3 bombs against them last yr, the next game Hudson---I believe---hits Soriano, and Lilly tries to protect Soriano, and Lilly gets ejected while Hudson stays in the game. Not to mention Renteria just about severely injured Theriot on a hard slide, and wasn't ejected. Look, I am all for a bean ball war before the 31st of July, but after the deadline, I don't want the Cubs to get involved with a beanball war that could lead to suspensions. We don't need key players having to sit out, because of some code. Do the beating on the scoreboard, where it hurts more. Just take the high road.
  4. All I know was the fact that Owings future would not be on the mound. I was never impressed with Owings as a pitcher, even at GT and Tulane. I felt Owings future was likely at 1st base or LF. You really think that Micha could be a position player? He did a pretty good job of it in college. True, but he's been pitching for 2 years. Yeah obviously he still can hit, but athletically I don't think hes in the shape to play a corner outfield position. Yeah, but you think it would take very long for Owings to get in shape to play LF? I don't think so.
  5. They are 18-4 in their last 22 non-Cub games. If the Reds, Nationals, and Padres cant stop them, nobody can. I'm not overly concern about the Brewers.....the Brewers are not a team built for the high stakes, as evidence of last yr, or when the Cubs came to town. We the heat is on, I expect the Brewers to fold like wet paper bag.
  6. Does anybody have a clue as to when Blackhawks will get on the superstation? I know not this yr, but you have to believe John McD will try to get the Hawks on WGN Superstation as soon as possible.
  7. All I know was the fact that Owings future would not be on the mound. I was never impressed with Owings as a pitcher, even at GT and Tulane. I felt Owings future was likely at 1st base or LF.
  8. Th earliest the sun will come out in Atlanta---according to weather.com----is 3pm tomorrow. So my guess is....tonight's game will be called. Tomorrow's game will be played between the 3pm-6pm opening tomorrow, and a good ole-fashion double header will be played on Thursday.
  9. I agree with the Brewers list in that order. As for the DBacks their "greatest players in franchise history" this is going to be tricky. The top 2 IMO will be Randy Johnson and Luis Gonzalez the third will be either Brandon Webb or Curt Schilling. I would go with Webb, because he's accomplished more with Arizona then Schilling did, but I could see Schilling getting the nod because of the world series. Outside of Webb, the DBacks (and later the Rockies/Marlins and Rays) are going to have tweeners on their lists.
  10. If you are referring to my post, I didn't say they would sweep I said they "should absolutely sweep".
  11. The Braves are dead in the water. The Cubs should absolutely sweep the Braves with no close games.
  12. Which means, if the Cubs don't sweep the Nationals later this month, I will be ticked...
  13. that content was deleted. here's the whole race, which i just now got to see. ridiculous. http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/share.html?videoid=0811_hd_swb_hl_l0194&forcereload=true That is the FIRST TIME I've seen that video. And wowsa.........I'm breathless.........
  14. Am I the only one who sees Mike Fontenot and automatically thinks he's a Kid Rock impersonator? vance=Mike Fontenot? Good to see a Blackhawk represented in the video....
  15. Maybe he's funny when you're not around. Or maybe abuck doesn't have a sense of humour? J/K
  16. Whogivesacrapaboutstrkeouts? Not Dunn, that's for sure.
  17. I respect the DBacks, and what they have done to the Cubs, but I am not terrifed of the DBacks. This Cubs team is different then Cubs teams in the past in that they don't allowed themselves to get initimadated by anybody or team. Nobody said winning the World Series would be easy, and anybody who thought the road would be easy, was simply delusional. The DBack can be beaten, and the Cubs have the talent and swagger to beat them. But the question is, will the DBacks even make the playoffs? My money is still on the Dodgers, but the Backs---witht he acquisition of Dunn---made their chances better.
  18. All I know is that the Nats better fold when we play them, and not bring their A game....
  19. IDK where to put this, so I put in the Cubs Discussion. But I was reading the mailbag with Ryan Theriot over at Chicagosports.com and he may an interesting comment to a question: Ryan, who on the Cubs team is most likely to win Last Comic Standing? -- Nick, Carmel, Ind. Demp. He's hilarious. He's going to do some improv stuff in a couple weeks at Second City. You know we'll be there for that one. Any folks in Chicago know about this? If so, do anybody plan to attend the show?
  20. Random thought on of the Bears: How sad is it, that the best QB and WR in Chicago plays for the Cubs and not the Bears?
  21. I wouldn't concede the title to the Cubs yet... Brewers still have 7 against the Padres, 9 against the Pirates, 3 against the Reds, and 3 against the Astros Let me weaken my statement a little bit, the road to the Division Title got alot easier.
  22. First: Let's face it, Ward is a liability. When he pinch-hits two things happen: 1: He either gets out or 2: He either walks or hits And if he does the 2nd thing, Lou has to burn another player (I know he uses Jason Marquis) to pinch-run for Ward. So when the playoffs come around, you need players who can run the bases and possibly stay in the game. Ward can't do either. Burning players in the regular season you can get away with, but you can't in the playoffs. Second: I know this....when Hendry was looking at Rich Harden, he had scouts looking at the Giants in June. So the interest in Winn is definately there. And Hendry does make moves that seems to come out of the blue air (HS Choi for Lee, signing Soriano). So, even tho there is no source right now, it doesn't surprise me that Hendry is interested in Winn.
  23. First: In the matter of a few days, the Cubs no longer have to face either Carlos Lee or Adam Dunn (plus no Bay) for the rest of the season. Which means unless the Cubs go "Epic Failure", the Cubs should win the division easily, now. Second: It sucks that Cub Killer Dunn is now with one of the teams that loves to kill the Cubs. Which means we must become bandwagon Dodgers fans. And seeing the Dodgers are 5-7 against the D'Backs, there still hope that they can outlast the DBacks. But if not, we have to just "do our thing," and not worry who we are potentially facing in the playoffs. Nonetheless I won't worry about the DBacks if or when the Cubs have to face them in the playoffs.
  24. All franchises in baseball need to understand the concept of a "sunk cost". You can't call Kosuke a "sunk cost" right now. You have to give him time, before making that bold statement. I'm still living in a delusional state of mind that Kosuke is just setting everybody up for a HUGE September/October that people won't forget.
  25. Makes up for the fact that they were quite lucky last season. This is no different than last year. Hudson pretty much missed the end of last season and the playoffs, too. yeah, but last year they had Mr. career year Byrnes I still find it hilarious that they gave away Carlos Quentin so they could extend Byrnes. Whoops. Don't feel too bad, they did steal Chris Young away from CWS.... Plus the prospect they got from CWS for Carlos Quentin (Chris Carter) was packaged to Oakland in the Dan Haren trade. So there's no whoops....it worked out very well for the D'backs. Chris Young really isn't very good, and I find it hard to believe that the D-Backs couldn't have gotten Haren if they didn't have Carter. I think Josh Byrnes is a pretty good GM, but the Quention trade was a big time screw up, no doubt about it. I didn't say the Quinton trade was a great trade, all I said, don't feel too bad for Arizona. I know Chris Young looks like and plays like a RH version of Corey Patterson, but they kid does still have a tremendous upside. With that said, the mistake wasn't trading Carlos Quinton, it was extending Eric "Overrated" Byrnes. Had they NOT extended Byrnes, they could have made a deal for Tex (I know the official reason was Ari didn't want to part with Jackson, but come on......Jackson is NO Tex, and I believe it had more to do financially then actual players) or Adam Dunn. And Dunn or Tex would have easily replace Quinton. Besides, what if Quinton was hitting .230 with 10 homeruns and 40 rbis? So essentially, the Backs traded Carlos Quinton for Dan Haren (via a third trade), and in my book that's a good trade.
