  1. Got to see Mike Minor pitch tonight. He got his ass kicked... but he continued to strike out a lot of guys
  2. Except that's not what he said. True, but I still think it makes Lou look like a fool if he can't remember the word "appendix." I misread. Thought there was a "his" in there before "appendicitis".
  3. WTF? http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=5226999 Another great quote by Lou about Z's pain... "He's having pain where his appendicits is"? Really Lou? But WTF w/ Baker? Just randomly losing vision in one eye completely? That doesn't sound good
  4. That's what I was kind opf figuring. Everyone knew he was going to be a good pitcher, but not this good. Something has to give eventually with those numbers. His ERA+ at the moment is 515
  5. Sweet! I'm kinda torn about the release of the T2i - the T1i is awesome with 15 mp, but the T2i is taking it up to 18 mp. I got my T1i this past July, and I am really getting into this photography thing. Thinking about taking a class and really learning how to use it. I'm about to pull the trigger on a 70-200 telephoto lens with 2.8f (REAL fast capabilities). Then if things go well, may step up to the upper level bodies like the 5D. Lots of people liked the pictures I took at my wifes dance performances, and I could see myself making a lick off the pics. My roommate has a T2i and he just bought (literally like an hour ago) a Tamron 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 lens, we were just messing around with it, it's pretty awesome. Cost him about $580 after a rebate. Plus the T2i has the benefit of full HD video, so that's always a bonus
  6. And Hanley Ramirez cries a little inside
  7. That's one hell of a pull. That's the allure of baseball card collecting nowadays. Back in the 90's you never pulled a card worth $10,000. These low print runs really jack the prices up, and turns a hobby into a profession.
  8. Using my 2nd transaction. GD Cleveland Indians... Drop Travis Hafner Add Vladimir Guerrero
  9. Awesome. That lens is pretty sweet. I'm about to get my grubby little mitts on a T2i soon. Again though, great photos
  10. Keith Law has the Cubs taking Alex Wimmers, RHP Ohio State... Law seemed to have done some research and contacting for some of his mock draft... here's his top 10... 1) Nats - Bryce Harper 2) Pirates - Manny Machado 3) Orioles - Jameson Taillon 4) Royals - Chris Sale 5) Indians - Drew Pomeranz 6) DBacks - Deck McGuire 7) Mets - Zack Cox 8) Astros - Josh Sale 9) Padres - Karsten Whitson 10) A's - Michael Choice
  11. Great looking photos. What kind of camera do you have? And I'd also like to second the question of why Vlad's arm looks like it belongs on a mannequin. Obviously it's a sleeve but it looks REALLY creepy
  12. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/2307878,CST-SPT-cubnt24.article
  13. This is not Cubs related, but it is minor league related, and I didn't feel like making a post about it because it's not that big of a deal, but I'm kinda geek'd out about it. My cousin's brother-in-law almost tossed a no-hitter last night for the AAA Reds. Sam LeCure. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100522&content_id=10334452&vkey=news_milb&fext=.jsp
  14. So what's the point of the "conspiracy?" Just using a figure of speech
  15. Remember in spring training when the Cubs were saying Ramirez was healthy enough to hit but unable to throw a baseball? That's my conspiracy theory. He was obviously hurt then and he never did any rehab or time off to get better. Clearly he hasn't gotten better. He sucked just as hard in spring training as he does now. How a team can declare someone healthy enough to hit, but not throw a baseball, and then decide that he's good enough to play one of the most demanding defensive positions in the game is beyond me. But whatever. He's averaged 12 errors a season at 3B since 2004 (and a couple of those season were shortened due to injury)... but he's got 6 already in less than 40 games. He's not right. I think there's something wrong with his shoulder and/or arm and it extends back to spring training
  16. It's a good thing Nyjer Morgan is worth like 86 bajillion dollars and is the most valuable player in the league, otherwise they would've kicked his ass to the curb by now
  17. A.K.A. Dottie Kemanshek, the basis of the character Dottie from "A League of Their Own", who also served as a technical advisor for the movie http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/la-me-dorothy-kamenshek-20100522,0,2217996.story From Wikipedia: That last bit is pretty damn impressive
  18. And his herpes. RIP

  20. Rotoworld... Trib... http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/05/oswalt-requests-trade-from-houston.html Only from a source, no confirmation. Maybe we could get him and put him in the setup role
  21. If it's a keeper league I would. If not, no. Sandoval has not lived up to expectations, Bruce is a streaky hitter, and Matusz is a rookie who will go through labor pains. Meanwhile you know exactly what you're getting with Ryan Howard... mediocre AVG, 40+ HR, and 130+RBI. And Bucholz has been really solid. But yeah, if it's a keeper league I would probably definitely do it. Matusz upside is likely greater than Bucholz and Sandoval + Bruce still have room to improve, while many think Howard is on the tail end of his peak and is in the beginning stages of a decline. But if it's not a keeper league I wouldn't do it.
  22. What he said. Each player page on FanGraphs has the dollars statistic. It's at the very bottom of each player's page. The "dollars" column is defined as "WAR converted to a dollar scale based on what a player would make in free agency"... next to the dollars column is the players actual salary.
  23. Kinsler is an injury prone product of his own environment. I think he's vastly overvalued. Not saying I wouldn't like to have him on the team, I would, but I think people consider him to be this elite 2B but when you look at his career away numbers they are delightfully mundane. 263G 1163PA .248/.320/.409/.729 vs. 267G 1166PA .312/.386/.541/.927 He also hasa career BABIP of .322 at home vs. .260 on the road
  24. I'll add Silva to that sentiment too. If someone had told me all 3 of those guys would be producing at a high level, I would have thought the Cubs would be having a hell of a hot start. Baseball is a strange game indeed. Yeah it's pretty annoying. Three of our starters have been pretty good and most of the starters on offense are doing pretty good. Why the hell aren't we winning? the cubs have been outscored by 14 runs Just to add further insult to our injury the Pirates have been outscored by 93 runs, the largest negative run differential in the entire major leagues (Houston in a distant second with -60 RD)...... and they're ahead of us by .5 games
  25. Aramis Ramirez is tied for 4th best (or is it worst?) player in this competition. Sadface
