  1. http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/news/story?id=6086575 Meh. Probably one of the most overrated pitchers ever, and a prime example of what being a Yankee can do for your "legacy"
  2. Randy Johnson to the Astros comes to mind. Seattle got Freddy Garcia/Carlos Guillen/John Halama for Randy Johnson... Yeah....... and they won 116 games in 2001 with those three on the team. Advantage Seattle. P.S. Pay no mind to the stretch where Randy Johnson struck out 1,417 batters with a 2.48 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 188 ERA+, and won 88 games................. in 4 years

  5. He hit .321... Berkman hit .248. :-k
  6. Lots of Cubs on his "Just Missed" list... Brett Jackson, Jay Jackson, Josh Vitters, and Chris Carpenter
  7. FWIW, we would've had Archer at #40 and Lee at #49. Not having Brett Jackson on there is puzzling though. It's not like he had a bad year by any stretch of the imagination
  8. Who is Brad Davis? Also, Ryan Zimmerman is 472 points, if I'm not mistaken
  9. I guess the Blue Jays DO have faith in J.P. Arencibia
  10. Didn't know where else to post this, figured this was as good of a place as any. Jayson Stark did another meaningless compilation of players, this one is the All Underrated Team. Meaningless, sure, but always fun to read. He listed Castro as the most underrated SS in the majors. This is what he had to say: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=6044419
  11. The Blue Jays must not have a lot of faith in J.P. Arencibia.
  12. If they do sign him to an extension, for the love of God don't give him a NTC
  13. In ~80% of the games Soto actually started (98), he was placed in the 7th (40.8%) or 8th (38.8%) position in the batting order. Without looking, I'm going to assume the Cubs were probably the only team in baseball to consistently dump their team leader in OPS+ and wOBA at the bottom of the lineup. Soto's OBP is a bit of a mirage though. He drew 25 walks in the 8-spot and 25 in the 7-spot. I'm willing to bet the majority of those came because they were trying to get to either the pitcher or whatever light hitting middle infielder was batting 8th that day. Same goes for Castro... he drew 17 walks in 32 games batting 8th, while only drawing 10 walks in 72 games batting 2nd. I'm not trying to diminish Soto's On-Base capabilities, he definitely has them, but I think his OBP is a bit inflated due to batting in front of lesser hitters throughout the season
  14. Awesome! I had like 3 Michael Burgess autographed rookie cards a few years back. Not by choice, his just happened to be the ones I kept pulling form boxes of Bowman. Regardless, this is kinda awesome.
  15. I think a large percentage of the reason why casual fans loved Theriot so much is because his last name says "The Riot". I've met a lot of fans who had a lot of irrational adulation for Theriot who affectionately referred to him as "The Riot"
  16. Man, I bet a lot of Theriot bleeding hearts are gonna change their tune real quick....... http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-spt-0116-cubs-convention-chicago--20110115,0,638938.story
  17. He'll take them. He won't get that money elsewhere. I agree that he will probably stay with the Yankees. However, a big hurdle for him this offseason was that he's a Type A free agent. If draft-pick compensation changes, that could change how some teams pursue him and could open up some more opportunities for him. With the needs of other teams changing each year, who knows what he could get somewhere else. Perhaps Soriano decides he wants to close again after the 2011 or 2012 season. He has the flexibility to pursue an opportunity to close for another team. Speaking of didn't Cashman say they wanted to hold onto their draft picks and that they weren't willing to give up a draft pick by signing a Type A for anyone other than Cliff Lee? Something about he was willing to give up a pick for Cliff Lee but no one else?
  18. They can afford it so whatever, but that's a [expletive] load of money for a set up man
  19. I'm intrigued now. I want to hear how good Woody would be in the booth. With our luck he'll be terrible and we'll grow to resent him, amirite?
  20. Of course not, why should they? I'm just saying that the rhetoric doesn't always match that feeling. The vitriol towards Colvin stems from the organization seemingly insisting he's likely to be more than a 4th/5th OF. This. As a 4th OF fine... but if Hendry did in fact have a reluctance to trade him then the organization obviously views him as more than that which, as N&G put, is absurd. Whether or not he was blown away by an offer and didn't sell is a moot point, the point is that he should absolutely listen to any and all offers on him, especially after this past season now that he has value. Before this past season Colvin's value was relatively weak because he was a prospect with injury concerns who showed no patience and had average power. This season, more or less, came out of nowhere and I personally am not buying it. This seems like the same reason Hendry declared Fuld untouchable just because he made a really good catch and had a few good weeks at the plate. It's like he gets all giddy and protective over someone who provided some nice production that wasn't expected and immediately values them more than anything else. He needs to knock that [expletive] off. Colvin's value is at its highest right now, and if there's a GM out there dumb enough to trade for him while giving up something that the team could definitely use then he should be out there trying to find it
  21. If other teams were vying after Colvin and Hendry didn't listen........ :banghead:
  22. Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. Please cut Koyie Hill and make Ramirez the backup. Most likely. Showed a lot of offensive promise in the minors a couple years ago, getting a little older now though. He's a great buy low candidate for a backup to Soto. Unfamiliar with his defensive reputation though, but if he fills in for Soto he has upside to not be an offensive black hole
