  1. Andy Pettitte is such a blatantly awful case of the Yankee effect making people think he was good. He doesn't even deserve to get in with the Vet committee. In 2000 his stats consisted of this: 4.35 ERA 1.59 WHIP 4.67 FIP 111 ERA+ 191.2 IP 121 K's 89 BB's 10.1 H/9 4.2 BB/9 5.7 K/9 He finished 4th in Cy Young voting because he had a 19-9 record. I know in retrospect it's because voters didn't pay attention to the peripheral stats and only really looked at W-L, but even with knowledge of advanced metrics in today's present-day voting, dumbass writers will still give him votes when he doesn't deserve horsefeathers. His career line when he was a "top tier pitcher" during the Yankees dynasty era was this: 9 years 3.94 ERA 1.38 WHIP 3.73 FIP 117 ERA+ 1792.2 IP 1275 K's 579 BB's 9.5 H/9 2.9 BB/9 6.4 K/9 But... 149-78 Andy Pettitte was mediocrity personified who couldn't even put up good consistent numbers with steroids on his side, but will get consideration because of the sole fact he played on a team that gave him ridiculous run support.
  2. I would take that in a heartbeat if it existed, lol.
  3. Fair assessment, but I have a soft spot for legit spoof movies since no one attempts to do them well anymore. They Came Together, Walk Hard, and Black Dynamite are the only spoof movies of the last 15 or so years worth watching, IMO. It's a lost art, so when any of them are remotely good, I have to appreciate it for more than it probably deserves, but that's just me. Hurry the horsefeathers up, Darvish.
  4. I wasn't sure either, and a quick IMDb led me to find this move called "they came together". Looking at the cast, I can't believe I've never heard of it and this has to be the greatest movie ever. I horsefeathering love that movie, but also know folks who absolutely hated it. It's a full on rom-com parody/spoof so if you're not on board with movies like Walk Hard you might not like it.
  5. It was a lighthearted joke in a boring thread that will never seemingly end. Lighten up, Francis.
  6. that is one of my wife's favorite movies and that scene slays me every single time we watch it IN MY OWN HOUSE!!!!!
  7. Every time I open this thread hoping there's news
  8. It's a shock Heyman is married considering how bad he is at commitment.
  9. It could still happen if they would just hire me for their videographer position that I've applied for every year, but noooooooo.
  10. Then win it again. Then we'll have to watch Keith Stone lament how our window only has two years left until we have to rebuild again. Our window is going to be 2 years for the next decade
  11. "Hey Yu, welcome to the Minnesota clubhouse. Over there is the legendary Joe Mauer! Hi Joe, really work in that Bengay into the joints! That's Brian Dozier over there, don't get too used to him, we won't be able to afford him much longer now that you're here. That guy over there? That's Byron Buxton. If you squint you might be able to see that he's the player Kris Bryant wishes he could be. And that guy over there? That's Miguel Sano. Stay away from Miguel Sano."
  12. He's totally taking the Chipper Jones approach and naming his kid after the ballpark where he has his best numbers. Say hello to SunTrust Baez!
  13. They were, Lucroy vetoed the trade and didn’t have the greatest things to say about Cleveland iirc haha let's laugh at the logan since he forgot about that and tried to be snarky
  14. I bet Cleveland was really upset when they traded him to Texas instead.
  15. I love that they've traded Piscotty and Gruichuk, both winners of the BFIB's coveted "Would you rather have this guy instead of Kris Bryant" award
  16. Printing error aside that's still a fun little memento to have on display.
  17. Trade for Yelich and throw Castro in so we take on that contract and the Marlins save more money... then trade him to [insert another team in a rebuilding process]
  18. His first year of arbitration is 2020.
  19. If they are also dead set on moving Harrison and McCutchen as well, Happ makes a ton of sense for them as a utility guy who can handle 2B and OF whenever needed. Honestly, a Happ centered deal for Cole makes a whole lot of sense for both teams.
  20. This just makes me want Darvish a lot more. Also Aaron Nola.
  21. I fail to see the logic in how their bullpen is being considered a "super pen". Saw a Rockies fan on Reddit say "Mike Dunn was pretty good for us last year". He had a 4.47 ERA, 4.63 FIP, 4.72 xFIP, and a 5.0 BB/9. Adam Ottavino had a 5.06 ERA and a 5.16 FIP, a 5.08 xFIP, and a 6.6 BB/9. He put up a -0.1 fWAR. Chris Rusin's results were better than his peripherals would suggest so you can't exactly pencil him in for a repeat of last year. Bryan Shaw has solid peripherals and is a perfectly acceptable pen arm but nothing legendary or anything and his numbers are sure to take a step back in Coors a little bit. McGee and Davis are the only ones with any sort of elite-ness behind their names. If that constitutes a "super pen" I'm failing to see how.
  22. I agree, Bryant is tanking this team. If he had just hit a few more dingers maybe he would've been the best player in the National League instead of the third best. Selfish pretty boy.
  23. Didn't the nats do that with Scherzers signing bonus or something? And his signing bonus was huge as a result? Or am I imagining things?
  24. Also what the hell was he paying for during the several years in between firesales?
  25. Possible unpopular opinion: I'd be fine with giving the mega contract to Machado instead of Harper with the caveat that they can somehow get Yelich as well. Obviously, the Cubs would need to work out an extension prior to the trade for that to work, but if they could I'd happily, albeit wistfully, wave goodbye to Baez. Machado and Harper are roughly the same age (25 and change), been in the game the same amount of time (764 games to 768), and put up a near identical WAR (26 to 27.7). Trade and Extend Machado Trade for Yelich Sign Yu I'm okay with that. Obviously, I want Harper more like any other normal person, but I'd be perfectly fine with that direction should they choose to go there.
