  1. That was only contingent on if we also acquired Khalil Greene
  2. A couple weeks ago was when I last checked in on Billy Hamilton's SB count and it was at 107 or something... he's now at 136. 32 SB in 30 AA games. 82% success rate on the season. His walk rate has also spiked dramatically in AA to 17.1%
  3. I don't think they'd need Strasburg in the pen. They've already got one of the best ones in baseball.
  4. The Nationals are in a position where, even without Straasburg, they still have a great rotation with Gonzalez, Zimmermann, and Jackson. They can shut him down and still be capable of making the playoffs and doing well. If they got a wild hair up their ass, they could conceivably bring him out for the playoffs after a full month's worth of rest, but who knows what affect that will have on his arm and long term future. I think they play it safe. They got enough bullets in the chamber to succeed without him. With Zimmerman playing like an MVP over the last month and a half, Michael Morse starting to comeback around with his power, Adam Laroche having an improbable comeback year, Werth back in the lineup and performing well, the aforementioned rotation, and one of the best bullpens in baseball that just got Drew Storen back late last month... they're in a good position to succeed without Stephen Strasburg.
  5. There are a whole lot of studies out there that show the impact of a pitcher increasing their innings count too much in a single year. In general, if a pitcher throws too many more than 20-30 IP more than their career high, bad things tend to happen. It's not always an injury. Quite often, the performance in the subsequent year just takes a huge hit. Did not know that. Thanks!
  6. Well being an assistant the the premier GM in the game would certainly open up a few doors down the road then, would it not?
  7. Wouldn't it make more sense to limit pitch counts instead of innings, and just let the innings run up naturally so long as the pitch count remains conservative and safe?
  8. My reaction gif feels embarrassed. Seriously did not see this much production coming this fast. Unless it's a case of the opposition not really knowing how to pitch him and he's just taking advantage of it at the moment.
  9. He's a left-handed thrower. Derp... didn't even think of that
  10. Spitballing here... Rizzo is a good defensive 1B, but would his defensive capabilities translate well to 3B at all?
  11. Another fluff piece out of ESPN LA... http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/story/_/id/8249312/will-los-angeles-angels-outfielder-mike-trout-stand-test-time
  12. If he becomes just an outrageously good bat in the minors, we have no place to play him and he is essentially trade fodder, presuming Rizzo is still doing great, which is fine. It's a nice problem to have. If he can drop the weight, he could feasibly become a bit more athletic enough to be able to play LF or maybe even 3B if desired, I'd imagine. Honestly for a guy his size and at his age it won't take much for him to drop the pounds. And if I was told by the organization that drafted me and employs me and gave me a nice signing bonus that they want me to drop the weight, I drop the damn weight. The question is whether or not losing the weight will affect his game. It could throw his swing timing off, maybe even affect his power. Not sure how much weight you want to put into it (no pun intended), but the Prince Fielder vegetarian/dropping weight thing springs to mind when discussing Vogelbach and his weight issues.
  13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PXj8m4yZyo Top YouTube comment... Awesome.
  14. 2012 - 158K Games 148 (so far) 2011 - 138K Games 115 2010 - 126K Games 128 1) I'm well aware of his strikeout numbers 2) He's only played in 106 games this season in AAA with 158K's, not 148. Where did you get that number?
  15. http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/34222/mike-trouts-rookie-campaign-is-history-in-the-making
  16. Brett Jackson striking out a lot is old hat. He's gonna strike out, and the Cubs know that. Gonna have to deal with it while I'm sure they attempt to work with him. They're not just gonna bring him up, watch him strike out a lot, and say "You'll get 'em next time". They're gonna work with him and try and fix it. Maybe they wanted him to get MLB level coaching since AAA clearly wasn't doing much for him. I'm still curious to know how many of Brett's strikeouts this season were the result of working the count and getting behind vs. swinging at bad pitches. He's clearly got the ability to hit (49 XBH this season in 109 games vs. 48 in 115 games in 2011), his production numbers have been on line to match his output from last season... I just question if a majority of his strikeouts were the result of being overmatched in a 2-strike count while he tried to work it in his favor. He's a been known to be a patient hitter, he takes pitches and likely waits for one he can handle. I'm wondering if his patience, combined with an inability to react to a 2-strike pitch, has lead to a sharp increase in strikeouts.
  17. FWIW, this was just posted on Rotoworld... Sounds like it will keep him sidelined at least until the middle of September, but likely through the rest of the season if Parker's recovery is a common recovery time for the injury.
  18. A stress reaction is not a torn ulnar collateral ligament. If the diagnosis is correct, I imagine it is similar to this injury Anthony Slama had last season (thanks, Google)... http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110309&content_id=16881016&notebook_id=16881040&vkey=notebook_min&c_id=min
  19. Holy crap I just noticed the Jackson gag, lol
  20. I thought I read somewhere in the minor league forums from a quote of an article (correct me if I'm wrong) Hasn't one of the primary reasons Brett K's so much because he has a poor ability at recognizing a 2-strike pitch, but he's so patient he often finds himself in 2-strike counts trying to work it full? Didn't someone say he has TOO MUCH plate patience for his own good, because he has trouble hitting a 2-strike pitch? I thought I read that somewhere, or am I making that up?
  21. Like raw said, nobody of note has confirmed this yet.
  22. And then "Do you think the Angels will sell low on Trout? Coleman and Vitters gets it done?"
