  1. That argument also only works when the contract you're ridding yourself doesn't justify the performance. He must not have noticed the part when Dempster was one of the best pitchers in all of baseball in the first half
  2. I was really anticipating being able to use this picture once a deal was made, but it's not appropriate :( Not terribly upset with the return, but got spoiled form the Delgado trade and was anticipating more. Oh well.
  3. Does this not take into account how bad Freddy Garcia has been and how good Dempster has been?
  4. Upton was a bit of a reach, admittedly, but if we're dealing them Garza I would hope we'd at least be getting Skaggs back. I don't think we could pry Bauer away, but Skaggs becomes expendable if they obtain Garza, so I would think it'd make sense for him to be the centerpiece of that deal if it happens?
  5. http://i2.listal.com/image/311837/500full.jpg "No. Stop. Don't." Perfect
  6. Deplorable? WTF? de·plor·a·ble Adjective: Deserving strong condemnation. Shockingly bad in quality. It was both of those things. Mark Grace is terrible, and that call was cringe worthy.
  7. It likely won't happen, but I'm secretly hoping the Dodgers trade Ted Lilly, just because I think it would be funny after all this "He wants to play with Ted Lilly" stuff.
  8. I just can't wait until it's official so I can stop reading the word "Dumpster" on this forum
  9. That's kind of what people were expecting in the first place
  10. Jonathan Mayo clearly hasn't been paying attention to the Cubs minor league system
  11. Well that's not going to help my fantasy team one bit
  12. If he gets traded (and for a good return) I'm going to be I-told-you-so-ing for a good 1 or 2 posts, just FYI
  13. I was gonna say there's no way they'd part with Mesoraco, but I overlooked the fact that when dealing within the division, that's the kind of deal you might be able to expect. Somehow I get the feeling Hamilton is more of an untouchable commodity than Mesoraco is. I don't think there's any question about it. I tend to agree, but I questioned it because coming into this season Mesoraco was not only their #1 prospect, but the 16th overall prospect in all of baseball (and the #1 catching prospect overall... well #2 behind Montero, but he's not really gonna stick at catcher)

  15. One of the most deplorable home run commentaries I've ever heard courtesy of Mark Grace... http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=23477063&topic_id=10025018&c_id=mlb
  16. Snider moves from the AL East to the NL Central. Good buy low option for the Pirates. He's still relatively young and consistently torments AAA pitching... something's gotta give at some point. Good gamble for the Pirates, IMO.
  17. Holy [expletive]. Good or bad? Vizcaino is 21, recovering from Tommy John surgery and hasn't pitched even 100 innings in any of his previous 4 seasons in the minors. Angel Guzman part 2? Angel Guzman had shoulder issues (did he not?), TJS has a good success rate for recovery, and pitchers' elbows are often stronger once they return from it at 100%. Vizcaino is/was one of their golden arms prior to his TJS

  19. Funny joke... too bad it's not true. Wish it was.
  20. His power looks so effortless, too... http://mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=23327533&c_id=mlb
  21. I'm a huge Olt fan. He's probably my biggest prospect crush right now, and I'd pass on that one, too. Baez's potential is off the charts, moreso than Olt's, IMO. I think by the end of next season, so long as Baez continues to do WTF he wants, Baez will make a serious case for being considered a Top 5 prospect.
  22. I tend to agree on the Garza not bringing in Olt, sadly. What if the Cubs packaged some other players/prospects with Garza to try and get Olt. Anyone we have that they could use, whether it's short or long term? INB4 WSR says Soriano
  23. http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/texas-rangers/post/_/id/4888556/does-zack-greinke-deal-put-pressure-on-texas Hypothetical question: If the Cubs finalize a Dempster for Delgado trade, and they were able to trade Garza for Olt + Top 15 ranked pitcher, and that's all we get out of Dempster and Garza (Delgado and Olt the primary pieces) would everyone consider that a disappointment, a push, or a good return?
  24. Yeah the Rangers are pushing for Josh Johnson, and Nightengale had this... That being said, the Marlins are rumored to be asking for guys like Profar, Olt and Perez (all together) for Johnson alone, which is an absurd request for Johnson's current performance and serious recent injury history, and fairly expensive price tag for next year (relatively speaking). The Marlins may be forced to take a lesser deal or hold on to him. I'm hoping they don't budge on their demands and have to hang onto him making Garza one of the top pitchers on the market. The only other pitcher who might challenge that status is James Shields, but he's been abysmal this year (admittedly due to a high BABIP)
