  1. I'm familiar wit hthe differences, but UZR still says he's arguably the best defensive 2B in baseball, and easily the best in the NL UZR: Cano - 6.4 Barney - 6.1 Phillips - 5.9 Ackley - 3.9 Espinosa - 6.8 UZR/150: Barney - 13.5 Cano - 11.4 Phillips - 11.3 Espinosa - 7.4 Ackley - 6.7
  2. I don't think anyone is believing it's worth 3 wins, since most folks know defensive metrics are not the most accurate indicator of defensive capability, they're just pointing out that the metrics DO say he's the best fielder at 2B by a huge margin
  3. Did he make this bet in the back room of a seedy laundromat?
  4. Meph's wish list looks like it'd be coming in handy right about now, lol wow. were those players actually available at those picks or was he just mocking guys? that's pretty impressive. Yup... Heyward went 14th overall, though IIRC teams passed on him because he made it clear he would only play for the Braves. Am I wrong on that? So yeah... his wish list compared with who we actually took... Heyward -> Vitters Burgess -> Josh Donaldson (though Burgess is in our system now, and Donaldson helped us get Harden) Middlebrooks -> Tony Thomas (Both players in Boston's system, ironically. Thomas was the 97th overall pick. Middlebrooks fell to 174th [5th round]) Carpenter -> Barney (We got 'em both... and then dealt Carpenter to Boston for Theo. Thanks Chris)

  6. That's for the clarification, Jon. I was afraid he was going to go on a genocidal murder spree.
  7. You're basically describing what the Cubs could've done this past offseason
  8. For the rumors not worthy of their own thread... Is this implying that Rosenthal thinks they could swap Crawford for Hanley or Reyes? Seriously? Using that logic, we should be able to find a match with Soriano for Hanley then.
  9. Yeah, McCutchen is the runaway MVP candidate. Alvarez hasn't been a great overall hitter, but at least his power has finally shown up and is on pace for 30+ homers. The last time the Pirates had two players hit 30 or more home runs in the same lineup was 2001 when Aramis Ramirez and Brian Giles did it. I honestly thought that the last time it would've happened was Bonds and Bonilla... I was almost right, that was the 2nd to last time it happened, back in 1990. If Alvarez and McCutchen cross 30 homers it will only be the 3rd time in 22 years that two players have homered 30 or more times on the Pirates in a single season.
  10. What has Trumbo done to become this good of a hitter? He's always had power but he has pretty much been a one dimensional kind of guy. He's been mashing this season... .311/.361/.634/.995 Leads the league in slugging. Has he made any significant changes to his swing to make him this good? Or is it an aberration people are expecting to pass eventually?
  11. I'm drawing a blank, and maybe I missed something a couple pages ago, but... Owens? Who are you referring to? http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=596064 Ahhhhhh...... damn that's a nice K/9

  13. First of all, LOL @ the Marlins for wasting a lot of money on FA this offseason. Secondly, I don't know how anyone could stand to be a Marlins fan at this point, but I digress.. I'd give up a whole hell of a lot to get Stanton, but I doubt he goes anywhere. The Marlins would be fools to move him.
  14. I'd have to think long and hard about it. Olt is probably my biggest prospect baseball crush right now so I'm biased, but Garza should be able to warrant another player in a Garza/Olt deal. Maybe not a Top 10 guy, but definitely someone for their 25, and preferably a pitcher. Maybe they could toss in a power arm like Will Lamb or take the risky flier on Barret Loux? Perhaps Roman Mendez?

  16. Was that the game when Theriot made that really stupid throw into the OF? DID SOMEONE SEND OUT THE RIOT SIGNAL?!?! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMv9Vls7mRg&sns=em
  17. At this moment, I think that possibility is small. But, let's see what next week brings. Not sure if that's what you're also implying, but I think we were both talking about the possibility of re-signing him in the offseason after he's traded, not extending him. Speak of the devil...
  18. No, they really aren't a good match. They aren't giving up any of their valuable prospects for him just so he can be a platoon LF, and LaHair's overstated value can probably better suited going to a different team who actually needs a first baseman rather than a stopgap platoon player. He has zero value to the Reds. It is in the Cubs best interest NOT to trade LaHair to the Reds because there's literally no good return for his value that they'd be willing to give up. It's a silly idea.
  19. Meanwhile, in the can't-catch-a-break department...
