  1. It's a shame he got injured so early on in the season, he started off the year as one of the best hitters in the majors. He did have a strong finish to the season. From August 12th (a day after his AVG dipped to .209) until the end of the year he finished up with a .291/.330/.488/.818 line.
  2. I'm assuming you mean a full season, but didn't Lamb pitch at the end of this season for the last month (he was awful, mind you, but still)?
  3. What could one year of a healthy Garza yield in return from the Royals? I assume they'd target pitching in return? How far has the stock dropped on Montgomery and Lamb? Are they worth pursuing? I know Lamb was injured. Montgomery was garbage this year. How far has their stock fallen and would they be worthy targets for Garza? Would KC even consider moving them? EDIT: Question marks, much?
  4. James Gentile wants people to stop using K/9 and BB/9 to measure a pitchers greatness
  5. With the Braves out, I'd love to see a Nats vs. O's World Series
  6. No, they wouldn't do that trade, but like I said, dream scenario. I'm not sure what else we could offer that we could be able to afford to lose in getting him. I wouldn't want to give up Baez, Soler, Vizacaino, or Almora, but outside of Vogelbach what other prospects would we have that would be worthy of a deal for the guy?
  7. Jackson and Vogelbach?
  8. My dream scenario: Sign Brandon McCarthy, Edwin Jackson, BJ Upton. Trade Brett Jackson & other prospect(s) for Mike Olt. Trade Vitters and/or other players and prospects for a couple relievers (I don't know who, anyone better than what we have). Garza, McCarthy, Jackson, Samardzija is immediately one of the top 1-4 rotations in the NL. We have an infield of Rizzo, Barney, Castro, Olt, Castillo which is not only an infield for the future, but a damn good defensive infield at that. Outfield of Soriano, Upton, DeJesus which is a pretty damn good defensive outfield (assuming Soriano is being used properly still) and a decent offensive one, too. That's a pretty damn good team....... but it won't likely happen (even though it probably could happen if they wanted it to). And that makes me sigh.
  9. So, Craig Kimbrel has been pretty good this year...
  10. Safeco is making some field dimension adjustments next season... http://mlb.com/sea/ballpark/wall_dimensions.jsp?partnerId=aw-4928056513407146328-1076
  11. Well if anyone wants to see one of the last two games of the season, they're practically giving the seats away... http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/ct-talk-cheap-cubs-tickets-1002-20121002,0,6848972.story
  12. Morale can't save bad players... but it's nice to know they're not miserable in the clubhouse at least.
  13. Didn't know where else to put this, but these quotes from Garza regarding how Sveum and coaching staff has handled the club this season are pretty awesome to hear in terms of morale. Seems like he keeps the clubhouse satisfied and happy. Feels like it's a good sign for the future whenever the Cubs start fielding a competitive team. Also it pretty much makes, as Brett notes, a big backhanded slap in the face of Mike Quade and the 2011 squad. http://www.bleachernation.com/2012/10/01/matt-garza-takes-a-verbal-chair-to-mike-quade-and-other-bullets/
  14. The Pirates' fate has been sealed... a 20th consecutive losing season. EDIT: And the O's make the playoffs
  15. This. Pass on Fowler. And pass on the whole idea in general. If that report about the Cubs looking to add pitchers this offseason is true, they could conceivably add someone like Edwin Jackson and Brandon McCarthy and then all of a sudden we have a 1-4 of Garza, McCarthy, Jackson, Samardzija and it's one of the top rotations in the NL (on paper, at least).
  16. :( http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/darwin-barney-errorless-streak-ends-three-outs-breaking-075847206--mlb.html
  17. I laughed at how the play-by-play guy called the invisible swing/grand slam, but that color guy for the Nats is so annoying.
  18. Of course he threw a no hitter one week after the final week of my fantasy baseball league. That would've clinched me the #1 pick in next year's draft. Damnit.
  19. If that happens then Haren and Santana can be added to the mix of pitchers available in the market, fwiw.
  20. Maybe what he said was misinterpreted, but judging from his quotes it sounds like no one ever gave him pointers on how to field his position properly ever until this season. Probably helps that he also has a manager who is smart enough to employ strategic defensive positioning
  21. So this happened with Soriano... http://www.bleachernation.com/2012/09/24/alfonso-soriano-received-outfield-coaching-for-the-first-time-this-season/ http://gifsoup.com/webroot/animatedgifs7/2964883_o.gif
  22. Heh... at least Ozzie got a jab in against someone whose worse than he is...

  24. Top 5 pitching prospects in all of baseball? Dylan, Dylan, Dylan, Dylan, and Dylan because he throws hot fire.
  25. 21 times now. Where did Medlen come from? Was he ever a highly regarded prospect? He has been otherworldly since they moved him into the rotation. Including tonight, unless my math is off... 8-0 10GS 70.2IP 0.76ERA 0.82WHIP 72K 9BB 9.2K/9 8.0B/99
