  1. Why would anyone even move close to Wrigley if they didn't WANT to live close to Wrigley? His arguments are ridiculous. Is there any actual legitimate public outcry over what the Cubs are trying to do from Wrigleyville residents, besides rooftop owners and Tunney?
  2. Figured this might as well go here... The Cubs, Dodgers, Red Sox, and Yankees, huh? Get outta town.
  3. 1.6 fWAR 0.9 bWAR For comparison, Soriano, DeJesus, and Schierholtz all have a 0.9 bWAR or higher, but they all have less than 1.6 fWAR. I would've liked Cespedes as much as the next guy, but I'm not lamenting his loss. B-R and FanGraphs have conflicting info. UZR rates him out as a ridiculously good defensive outfielder (9.6 UZR, 21.1 UZR/150). B-R's dWAR lists him as a smidge below average (-0.1). Depending on who you pick determines how you value him this year. I'm apathetic about Cespedes at this point. The Cubs didn't screw up, they were screwed by his agent by not allowing them the opportunity to counter the A's offer.
  4. Touché. If anything, adding Olt likely pushes Vitters off 3B finally and to LF, I'd imagine?
  5. Also, people had legitimate reasons to really like Olt last year... a) He hadn't imploded yet. b) His K% was the only serious red flag in his game, as he was able to hit for modest average, hit lots of homers, draw lots of walks, and play plus defense at a premium defensive position. c) The only true 3B prospect we had in the system was Josh Vitters, who everyone is pretty much down on in terms of him being a starting third baseman at the major league level long term. d) The thought that Baez would have to move to third was squashed by analysts and scouts saying his defensive play at SS was above average, and he might eventually move Castro off the position to 2B (as Alcantara still had yet to prove if he was the real deal) Add in the fact that we now have Kris Bryant and Olt becomes redundant in our system... but I'd rather have him than Vitters. Warts and all.
  6. I'll admit to really wanting Olt last year. I'd still welcome him into the system, though I'm not as high on him after his half season this year. Last year Olt was considered a centerpiece type prospect, now he's a 2nd/3rd piece. His struggles have been well documented, though, and his issues have been corrected and now he needs to come back and prove his bat is still relevant. I still think he provides significant upside that's worth absorbing into the system, personally. At the very least, I think he'll get back on track enough to be a useful trading chip for the Cubs.
  7. I don't know how Mathisen projects, but he is a [expletive] disgrace this year at the plate.
  8. That's a lot of stink overpowering the fresh air.
  9. Alcantara HR here: http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_id=28901387&topic_id=10025018
  10. And they're 25th in the majors in AVG w/RISP at .224 AVG
  11. Let me tell you something. We're gonna track this Germano down, ok? And we're going to take a flier on him.
  12. That seems contradictory to what Theo and Jed have spoken openly about in the past.
  13. Just a friendly reminder that the Yankees have had $96,125,000 in annual salary on their DL most of the year. And according to their depth chart they are also playing a left fielder named Zoilo over Vernon Wells who has a 77 OPS+ and is getting paid about $11 million from the Yankees to ride the bench and be a backup to everyone.
  14. So is this to assume the strategy is they go all out this year, incur penalties for next year and play within those boundaries, then go all out the year after and then rinse and repeat?
  15. moosetacos is doing better too Technically you're right, but... Hosmer prior to Brett (till May 30th): .261/.321/.335/.656 1 HR Hosmer since Brett (since May 31st): .316/.353/.542/.895 8 HR Moustakas prior: .184/.254/.309/.564 4 HR Moustakas after: .252/.297/.360/.657 2 HR I mean, technically Moustakas has improved, but he's still not doing well at all.
  16. In his defense, James Shields has been excellent, but all their hitters forgot how to hit for power. Seems like only Eric Hosmer has started to turn things around since Brett took over as hitting coach. That being said, that Shields move was definitely a desperation grab, and if Moore thinks he's capable of contending, he'll be desperate again.
  17. According to this article Brett posted, those "compromises" on the video board being 4,500 ft were premature...
  18. I'm not much of a gun enthusiast, but I know what a Taurus Judge is... it's a revolver that shoots shotgun shells. And it looks like it came straight out of Eddie Valiant's office... http://www.chuckhawks.com/taurus_judge.jpg

  21. And you're convinced he's incapable of making adjustments?
  22. 33 innings over 2 seasons, you can't really take much from that. And i'm not going to pretend to know everything on him, but what I read through the twitter leaves is that he is listening to a ton of people and changing his style, but he is attributing his struggles to that and would like to switch back. Also he's 22 years old. 22 years old and people are apparently expecting him to be all-star caliber already. There will be growing pains, and his upside is tremendous. He's worth targeting, IMO.
