  1. Yeah, he was expecting outside the whole way and he came right at him on strike 3. I suppose if you wanted to look at that AB with an optimistic approach you could say that it shows he understand how pitchers have been pitching to him and he was anticipating an outside breaking pitch to lay off of instead of swinging wildly at it, so he's trying to make adjustments. Or it's just Baez being Baez.
  2. Just spotted this on the MLB HR Videos page... http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/0/v35618943/baez-shows-glimpse-of-what-the-future-holds
  3. When I was a kid I had one of those, but it was like the screen printed logo on a button down jersey... it was weird, like a not-quite-authentic and it had no number on the back. I begged my grandma to take it to a place where they put patches on it and get Sosa's number on the back, but the best they could do is iron on felt numbers that were hand made. It looked like doo doo so I kept it blank. I was a kid those jerseys never bothered me, as long as it said Cubs on it I was happy. But yeah those aren't great.
  4. You think he'll have 10+ HRs in the last 33 games? I mentioned this elsewhere, but among all qualified and unqualified 2B with home runs, Javier Baez leads the majors with an 11.1 AB/HR rate. The #1 qualified 2B is Neil Walker with a 22.9 rate. He's hitting a home run at a little more than twice the rate as the qualified MLB 2B leader in AB/HR. Now, 11.1 is really low, but with Javy's power it's not unreasonable to think he could have one around 15. It's very reasonable that he could reach 15+ homers by the end of the season. And just for fun, if Javy's 11.1 was his full season mark, that would rank him 5th in all of MLB if this were 2001. Also, FWIW, Rizzo's AB/HR this season is 16.5, good for 7th in all of baseball. #1 is Edwin Encarnacion with 13.2
  5. That was also Baez's 30th home run on the season between AAA and MLB
  6. i didn't think that there was any way that that could be true. but it is. Gary Sheffield once walked 142 times in a season and only struck out 66 times. i don't think anyone appreciated that at the time, it's incredible. yeah, Javy isn't Gary Sheffield nor will he ever be. Sheffield had the k-rate of a slap hitter and the walk rate of a [expletive] hulk. i would be absolutely elated if Javy had a season in which he walked 66 times and struck out 142. It's crazy - even his first years w/ the Brewers the K and BB rates were good. What the hell were they thinking? They didn't need Sheffield because of the emergence of the ultimate SS platoon of Bill Spiers and Dale Sveum. That and they thought it would be realy good for marketing if they had a guy named Ricky Bones on their team.
  7. Whoever this writer is he should be grateful there's someone out there dumb enough to give him a paycheck to write [expletive] like that. And his editor should be flogged
  8. One of them in their game thread said something to the effect of "I'll give the Cubs credit, they don't swing at a lot of pitches and have good plate discipline" If only they looked at the box scores from the last couple of weeks
  9. We're gonna need a gif of Gausman's [expletive]
  10. Not until hes 26 in Daytona with a 3.68 ERA.
  11. Darn, looks like we'll have to trade for Stanton then.

  13. What's the conventional wisdom about teams not wanting guys to throw the cutter again? It makes no sense to me, it can't put more stress on the arm than a slider or curve can it?
  14. Probably so, but his 13.8 AB/HR ratio is #1 in the majors among all qualified and unqualified 2B! Unless you count the guys who have no home runs, then they're all tied for first.
  15. Brian McCann: Unwritten Rules Cop. I [expletive] hate him and would pay the Cubs money to not acquire him
  16. David Price with the rare 8 inning CG 1-hit loss
  17. THANKS FOR RUBBING IT IN ROTOWORLD WE HAD NO IDEA
  18. He's signed through 2017 with a couple of $12M team options after that. So he's basically signed through 2019. Daaaamn, Giants made out like bandits on that one. *Cue arm injury* Even if he blows his arm out tomorrow and never pitches again, the Giants will have paid $36M for 15 WAR. Yeah but how many World Series did they win, huh?!?!? Oh wait...

  20. He was facing Dickey, so maybe he felt that was the best stance to go with the see the knuckleball the best? Ahh, suppose that makes sense.
  21. What in the world did Carlos Gomez do to his stance on this home run? Was this some odd strategic decision for this one AB or something? http://m.mlb.com/video/v35522389/tormil-gomez-cuts-deficit-with-tworun-homer-in-6th/?query=carlos+gomez
  22. I knew Texas was doing bad but holy [expletive] I didn't realize they were the worst team in the majors
  23. http://i.imgur.com/usIrF0J.gif
  24. I wonder if he'll prefer a shorter term deal like Cespedes so he can cash in before he starts to decline?
