People go with Boras a lot of the time to get the most money, but he also needs to listen to what his client wants, and if Kris Bryant tells him "I'm open to signing an extension with the Cubs" Boras isn't going to say "No, you need to wait until FA and make them get into a bidding war", he's going to negotiate an extension with the Cubs. This whole "Boras client, no way he signs an extension" talk that I've seen a lot recently is silly, IMO. He's not impervious to making early extensions, he's just going to make sure he can extract the most amount of money out of a team in the process. That Gonzalez example is good because it shows a) he was willing to do it and b) it was a fair contract for both sides. $70 million is a [expletive] load of money for a guy who put up one and a half great seasons. And it's a great price for a team who got a budding superstar on a long term deal. Boras wont be allowing any Longoria type extensions, but he won't be ruling any extensions out either. Actually the Gonzalez one would probably be a good measuring stick for what Bryant could command if he puts up a big year next year, and I'd be happy to have the Cubs give him something like that in that scenario.
