    Any word yet on who could be signed after the MLB academy in Tirrenia (Italy) finishes on 08/30? Eleven European players signed pro contracts since participating last year (out of a total of 54 young players there - by young, read: between 16 and 19 yrs old).

    I agree. No matter what decision the Cubs would have made about Zambrano (sign him, let him walk, trade him), the media would have complained about it. From a PR perspective, this decision was the best possible. Five (or six) years from now, we'll know how it turned out on the baseball side.

    Good. And with Euro 2008 qualifiers sheduled for both 09/08 and 09/12, there shouldn't be any trouble to field players based in Europe. But that goes for both teams. :wink:

    Doesn't selecting him in the Rule 5 draft mean he has to be kept on the 25-man roster for the entire following season? Or does that depend on which minor league roster he's put in the off-season? It seems to make more sense for someone with interest to claim him now rather than in the Rule 5 draft.

    As I put in a couple more votes for Vance during my lunch break, it's still going at about that pace. It looks to me like someone is running a script or something to keep voting over and over again. So it all depends whom that person is voting for.
