  1. You can nitpick all you like, he has a Dutch passport, played in the Dutch league and for their national junior team.
  2. Just in case you want to do some crosschecking; as far as I can tell, four young Dutchmen signed their first pro contracts this summer: Dwayne Kemp(19) - Cubs Jan Baldee(16) - Astros Tjerk Hogervorst(16) - Mets Rien Vernooij(18) - Mets
  3. :o What does that mean?
  4. The highlighted portion is probably the best thing I heard from this interview. I really believe there are some terrific players waiting to be discovered in Europe and the parts of Asia which haven't been scouted very heavily. Granted, baseball is not as big there as other sports, but if you can find quality players for cheaper than the going rate for comparable talent from places like the Dominican Republic and Korea, that's a good thing. We'll see if anything comes from it, but I think it's a great thing for this organization to be doing. I'll be eager to read how Dwayne Kemp (the 19yr old Dutch INF) will be playing next year.
  5. The Cubs already have Dwayne Kemp signed; Jones can be put to some other use. 8-)
  6. (Looks at first post of this thread) The math was easy, but now I'm confused.
  7. That's a very impressive list.
  8. Even so, to the individuals concerned the sign of appreciation may be important.
  9. In that case, there's no point in trading him to the Reds.
  10. I have no idea how this is going to work out, but it sure as hell will be interesting. And for the record: my sympathy goes out to the Reds fanbase.
  11. However, that number will decrease as time goes by. :jocolor:
  12. Thanks for digging up and posting all this info (about the other leagues as well), Raisin, I really appreciate it.
  13. right... which sucks cause that's 10:30 here in NY Stop moaning; that'll be 3.30 am in Brussels. I'll check the box score at breakfast, thank you.
  14. You certainly do. I would be in favor of trading away Dempster, if possible.
  15. That takes courage, not PED's. Just ask Barrett :jocolor:
  16. I'll raise you on the fun content: yours truly on Cubs.com on 1/8/2004: favorite darkhorse Cub prospects 8-)
  17. Considering my age, I should get that honour. 8-) Oh, and I last played left back. About sixteen years ago.
  18. I have 18 years of experience playing in defense (any position) with this team (website in Dutch only) between 1972 and 1990
  19. When talking about the Cubs' management possibly making decisions like this one, the following Terry Pratchett quote applies IMHO: "I'll be more enthusiastic about encouraging thinking outside the box when there's evidence of any thinking going on inside it."
  20. :D :D :D Brann Bergen 0 - 1 Club Brugge Nice away win in Norway. The Blue Army will be in full voice during the return game at home in two weeks time. http://www.clubbrugge.be/img/nieuws/2312/celta1.jpg
  21. On a Monte-Carlo simulation? Hardly.
  22. <-------- My boys playing in the UEFA cup this evening :D
  23. Actually, anyone here is free to have any opinion he/she likes on Ryan Theriot. In the end , Lou's is the only one that matters, and as long as in his opinion Ryan brings more to the team's chances of winning (in whatever way) than the other options available, he's going to run him out there. As to the debate on who should be the starting SS next season, let's save that topic for the offseason.
  24. What matters more to the team is that his results are at least proportionate to the cost.
  25. That would have been logical: he was really on a roll the last weeks of the season. I still think he'll go to Daytona to start the 2008 season though.
