  1. Chris Mowday is playing for MediaMonks RCH in the Dutch league - the are currently dead last in the standings.
  2. It said candidates have to be US citizens. I'm assuming their absence means none of them have received citizenship. doh, I completely missed that part. That also explains why there is an overall lack of baseball players on there. Yes and no. There's only one on the international list: Ichiro Suzuki
  3. Voetbal International is considered as reliable in these parts. It basically confirms Ajax's interest, gives a recap of Gooch's career so far and lists the other teams interested.
  4. I seem to recall a lot of bitching on this board during the 2003 draft that the Cubs should have taken Milledge or Markakis in the first round, and not Ryan Harvey. Everyone was right about not taking Harvey, of course.
  5. Thanks, Raisin. Not surprising, really. Despite being only sixteen, he's already playng for Regensburg's first team, arguably the best in Germany and on a European level they are just a notch below the top teams from Italy or the Netherlands. He's already a regular in the German junior team, so they know what they can expect from him.
  6. Summary of whatever that subscription-only article says please.
  7. I can live with him being on the DL for the rest of the season.
  8. To answer my own question: they were. Sidney Ponson tested positive for fentermine (which can be used to lose fat quickly  ), which means a two year suspension from IBAF events, but no more than a fine for his MLB status.
  9. why wouldn't we be? it's weed. big deal. it's no worse than a player drinking Except that they drug test for weed, duh. It's like, you know, illegal and stuff. it's illegal in the USA and most other countries, but not everywhere. So if you want to make the legal argument stick, you'll have to find out just where he did his smoking. Just out of curiosity, were any players from the Netherlands tested during the WBC?
  10. Whatever the perspective, yesterday's game simply makes international soccer more interesting for any neutral observer. Grats to you guys on a great win.
  11. Simokaitis is a pitcher now? (according to the AZL Cubs box score)
  12. You rang? Plays for Regensburg Legionairs in the Bundesliga South. DOB: 1993-02-10 2009 stats so far: .467 BA, .533 SLG, .526 OBP albeit in limited action And 3 SB to boot (hasn't got caught stealing yet) His stat page in Bundesliga.
  13. So he passes up the chance to play in the Champions league group stages with Standard Liège (automatic qualification) to play in the effin' Europa league and that nuthouse in Istanbul? Hope the money makes it worth his while.
  14. There's your answer. :D
  15. Weren't the 2008 Olympics the last time baseball would be included? The IOC is talking to seven different sports (baseball, softball, golf, karate, rollersports, rugby and squash) about possibly adding them to the 2016 Summer Olympics. The final decision will be made in October.
  16. Doesn't sound like it's anything TOO serious. The two weeks off will hopefully benefit him for the rest of the season. My exact thoughts when I heard the news.
  17. Club Brugge : 12 I wasn't around in 1920 when they won their first. 8-)
  18. Actuallly, it's from Babes in Toyland. 8-)
  19. I can take the smell for a while longer.
  20. Indeed 8-) Loved the "businesslike" look on his face when he got up.
  21. Always nice to check in here from some none-descriptive hotel room to see the Cubs win. :D
  22. Awesome job by Egypt.
  23. The Italians will get roasted at home if they do.
  24. need some lessons? (posting from Breda in the Netherlands where I am staying over on business and watching Egypt vs Italy in the hotel))
