  1. I'm not saying you should, but CIV are a highly regarded side, currently 16th on the FIFA ranking, only two places below USA. And yes, I know those rankings are flawed.
  2. Officiating shenanigans. CIV had the equalizer disallowed improperly. I think the implied message is that it would be foolish to underestimate Algeria.
  3. After reading this thread, I can only hope that Cubs fans can make their place on the wait list part of their inheritance. That way, your grandchildren may be able to take their grandchildren to games.
  4. I'll reserve judgement on Shark until his "improvement" translates in to results during games.
  5. The rise of Castro makes Theriot tradeable (or even expendable) after this season; that in itself should incite Hendry not to compromise too much on the 2.6 (and damned be that "perfect" record)
  6. :-)) :-)) :-)) Vintage onion.
  7. Um, someone who lives baseball metrics every day *is* a sabermetrician. You know exactly what I meant. Won't say anything further to you if you insist upon misinterpreting everything. If you meant something different than what you said, then that's a you problem. I think you meant to ask, does a baseball player understand statistics better than a statistician. I would expect the answer to be no. Good man. Now apply the same logic to psychology, more specifically the effects of "negativity" on performance. 8-)
  8. So that's 38 on the 40 man roster, leaving the option of adding 2 without waiving or releasing anyone.
  9. I think we can disregard the catchers on that list - they are invited as a need, imho.
  10. This is a great signing. \:D/
  11. Three people died (the driver, an assistant-coach and a press officer). Several players are slightly injured, and apparently Abdebayor (unhurt) is already on his way back to Manchester (at least, that's what a City official has said) Togo are contemplating pulling out completely. This report says they have. http://sport.stv.tv/world-sport/149216-togo-withdraw-from-african-cup-of-nations/ http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jan/09/togo-withdraw-africa-cup-of-nations-attack A player, Kodjovi Obilale, now has reportedly died. What a mess. Ghana and Ivory Coast are looking at dropping too. According to ESPN, the Togo players have voted to play, in order to honor the ''memory of the dead.'' http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=723184&sec=global&cc=5901 According to this BBC report, the government of Togo officially withdrew the team from the competition, but the players will play anyway. No confirmation of Obilale's death either. Stay tuned ....
  12. That report doesn't mention if it's a "free to move on if not added to the roster by a certain date" type of deal. Worth taking a flyer on, I guess.
  13. Probably. Had his shoulder scoped in October, and is "likely to miss most of April"

  15. I moved it for you.
  16. US U20 international Jared Jeffrey will move from Club Brugge to FSV Mainz (currently 9th in the Bundesliga) in January. Interesting choice.
  17. I agree - very thoughtful piece.
  18. This one Duh.
  19. I have literally never heard of this guy He pitched a no-hitter for the Netherlands against Panama in the first WBC. Now you're making up country names. March 10th 2006 in Puerto Rico. Randall Simon and Ivanon Coffie were also on that team.
  20. I have literally never heard of this guy He pitched a no-hitter for the Netherlands against Panama in the first WBC.
  21. Theriot should be shopped while he still appears cheap enough for other teams, but this being the Cubs there's no way this happens.
  22. The way I see it, the Cubs traded a player they couldn't use (because he's a head case) for another player they can't use (because he sucks) and saved a couple of million in the process. They're still stuck with a 24 man roster.
