  1. I like the idea of Lilly at Dodgers stadium. It's a best-case scenario for his pitching style. I think Cubs in 4, dropping one of the first two to cause mass panic in the city. Good point about Lilly. Why didn't Kruk think of that? I like the idea of Manny Ramirez playing in that spacious RF at Dodgers Stadium.Especially with all these Cubs right handed hitters. :D
  2. yep, that was unreal What was said. Kruk basically says Demp is starting game 1 because we don't know which version of Z is going to show up. The Cubs made a huge mistake allowing him to finish a no hitter coming right off the injury, and Z has been terrible ever since the no hitter. I guess the fact that Z went to Venezuala for a funeral, took a late flight home and then had a start that same day had nothing to do with the bad outing following the no hitter. Lilly is not scheduled in the first 3 games, because if Z is bad in game #2, Lou is going to use him as a mop up guy to bail out Z.
  3. What the Howry is Cubs Field? Like this is ever going to happen. Daley doesn't realize that Wrigleyville now is not the Wrigleyville of 20 years ago with families and longtime residents fighting against lights and night games. Now it's college kids and party people moving into the neighborhood specifically for the bars and the restaurants. No way the neighborhood will vote it dry.
  4. I don't even know it was so long ago. Probably 1973 or 1974 when I was 4 or 5 years old. Though I can specifically remember a 1976 game that a neighbor took my friend and I to against the Reds. We sat in the grandstands behind home plate.
  5. That pitch of Kerry's was absolutely unreal. Whatever it was- slurve, slider, etc... it had the craziest, freakiest breakaway that I have ever seen. The definition of nasty. LOL Wiffleball is a good description.
  6. Mentioning giving the games to FOX also causes it to lose some weight. Fox baseball is absolutely terrible with the made up storylines, the overdramatics and Buck and McCarver.
  7. I was fine with either he or Girardi. After having Dusty around anyone would have been better.
  8. I'd rather live in the now and hope the Brewers make it to the playoffs. Of all the NL contenders, they are going to be the easiest for the Cubs to beat in the playoffs.
  9. Jason Larue is looking more and more like Lieutenant Dan every day. http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m125/btvsrcks/b4982929.jpg
  10. Just try really hard to make sure that never has to happen.... :-)) :-))
  11. Extreme precautions are taken every February to avoid such a terrible situation/dilemma. She does not like it--but my wife understands the obsession. She's awesome.
  12. Err, how does the "backdrop" help field a winning team? The Cubs aren't making money from any of that crap. Yeah I know. I am just going on one of my old man rants, that all. lol Actually the Cubs are making money(is it 17% of total revenue) from the businesses across the street.
  13. What? Now the Budweiser house too? Nearly every single building back there has been replaced, raised, releveled, rehabbed etc.. Is this a good spot for me, a guy who has been going to Cubs game for 35 years to complain about what is going on at Wrigley? Or should I take this to rants? Wrigley was such an awesome, casual, lazy-day, hanging out place to go watch a game when I grew up 6 blocks away. But now the tourist trapness and the moneymaking endevours drives me crazy. The whole Wrigley backdrop now(bleachers, behind the park, the scoreboard, etc...) is about moneymaking. I guess it's progress, and I guess it's inevitable and understandable. It's what they have to do to field a winning team. I still love the place and it's one of my favorite places on earth, but the Wrigley experience isn't the same as it used to be.
  14. Strange that the author would write that Kerry had good mechanics, seeing as how he had a terrible habit of throwing across his body.
  15. I wonder if they are going to talk about Fielder's tape measure strikeout in the 9th inning to end the game. That knee buckler was a thing of beauty.
  16. Waveland, Addison, and Clark are synonymous with Wrigley Field. We can't change those. Sheffield however? Who would care?
  17. I thought I had heard Lou say early on that this was it. This was going to be his last contract and his last shot at a championship before retiring.
  18. Jeff Kent? Matt Morris? Barry Bonds?? Anyone???
  19. i had to read this a couple of times to make sure i wasn't missing something. i didn't think anyone, let alone a major league manager, could be stupid enough to IBB a lefty batter against a lefty specialist so that the lefty specialist can face a RH batter who hammers lefties. It almost seems like Yost just didn't care anymore. Either that or he's literally [expletive]. Or maybe it's both. This was so far out there and sounded so ridiculous I had to look into it a bit more. In fairness to Yost(I can't believe I just said that), Burrell batted .181 in August and he's batting .194 in September. His OBP is under .300 since July. Conversely, Howard is batting .354 in September with a .917 slugging percentage and has been spraying the balls to all parts of the field against both RHP and LHP . So you can see why he would rather face Burrell than the hot hitting Ryan Howard. The choice here was between career numbers versus recent numbers. Yost went with the recent numbers and it didn't work this time. Still. This doesn't take into account the studlines of Shouse against LHP.
  20. Somewhere C.C'.s elbow is doing a happy dance.. :yahoo: :yahoo:
  21. Like last night? Come on. Even Neifi Perez could hit one against McClellan. 292 BAA righties? :D
  22. Wellemeyer's out. Now they can get some runs off the Cards bad bullpen! :D
  23. Say what you want about Kaplan..but the guy bleeds Cubs and the guy is a Cubs lifer. He's a hardcore fan just like the rest of us here and has waited as long as we have to see a Cubs World Series appearance. Because of this, I sympathize and can't get on the guy for blasting Geo due to his emotions and Cubbie fan frustration. We as Cubs fans all do the same thing out here on NSBB every day. But if I saw Phillips or that Orestes Whatever-his-name-is blasting Geo on Baseball Tonight, that would be different. :-))
