  1. Crash Davis says that HR traveled so far that it should have had a stewardess on it.
  2. I'll say. He called Ramirez out on that same pitch. I agree, but I am getting tired of umpires thinking they have to confront everyone who disagrees with them. Do they not understand competitive emotion? Lieber was frustrated, he didn't even say anything. At least it didn't look like it. Total Crawford here. It's the new breed of ump with the high horse mentality and the giant ego. They kill me...totally inconsistent, yet they get alarmed when players and managers get critical of them. I just don't want you to get into a jerkstore moment here. Hyaahahahaha!!!! They are running out of me. Really? I didnt know that. Must have happened when I stepped out. What happened to crawford? Taken to a hospital for unknown reasons. He "wasn't feeling right." Seemed to be chest-related. Ruh roh! This guy that took his place probably came here straight from the Kane County Cougars game or something. It's like last weeks Angel Hernandez strike zone.

  6. No worries. We get to look forward to Gagne in the 9th. lmao. Maybe Mike Maddux ought to go out there and try closing out the 9th instead.
  7. Atta boy Ramirez. Sit there and stare at a called strike 3 on the outer half of the plate. After all, Crawford has been calling that pitch all night. :banghead: :banghead:
  8. Since the Elia tirade. It seems like it happened yesterday. Happy Anniversary to all you @!#$!!%!*! fans that show up there every #@$!#!!! day .   http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-080423-lee-elia-apologize-rant-tirade,1,5225738.story
  9. Remember, we've got Angel Hernandez behind the plate !!! No kidding. Angel sure did not dissapoint tonight, did he? His zone was inconsistent and all over the place again tonight as usual, not to mention the obvious balk by Heilman. Nice to see the Cubs win despite of Hernandez. I still remember him umping that crazy game in '01 Ah yes! The Steve McMichael game, who can forget that? You know after that game, I used to think Hernandez just had it out for the Cubs like Eric Gregg did. But after seeing him blow calls and screw up strikezones leaguewide(and watch him throw out Bobby Cox 3 times) I finally realized he is just a terrible ump. He really is the worst ump I've ever seen in my life. Tonite we really got to see how bad he is with that ESPN K-Zone. Fukdome got hosed with an outside pitch called a strike during that long at bat, DeRosa got hosed, Early in the game Maine didn't get the same outside corner strike call that Zambrano got when he struck out David Wright. It was outrageous. If there was ever a game for Lou to go nuts on an ump, this was it.

  12. It's because he is a Yankee. ESPN, still after all these years has not realized that there is a lot more to MLB than just the Yankees. It is silly isn't it? In a year when the Yankees are terrible and will probably finish lower in the standings that the Devil Rays, they will still get plenty of national coverage from ESPN.
  13. It sure doesn't. It must be in the Steinbrenner gene pool, I guess. Spend Money Make Stupid Moves Make Desperate Signings Try And Win At All Costs Even If It's Futile and Will Set Us Back A Few Years. Blame Others For Our Failures Maybe when they clone the next generation of Steinbrenners, the scientists will remember to turn off these genes.
  14. Speaking of abuse...I wonder how long it is going to take for Dustbag to destroy new Reds phenom Cueto? I bet he'll be throwing towels next season.
  15. Hey.....remember the Michael Barrett& AJ Pierzynski brawl? " They police themselves, but they don't police themselves the way we used to police ourselves.”
  16. Don't get me wrong, man. I whine about him, but I like KW. He is my favorite player on the team and like most of you guys, I've been following the guy's career for 10 years. You bring up a good point though. You are right...there is no one on the team that can step into that position. Howry is brutal and Marmol is inconsistent and young. I don't know. In a perfect world I'd like it if Wood was starting again. Who knows if that is ever gonna happen again.
  17. Sorry to ressurect the topic again, but let me just say that this game today is textbook proof of why Kerry is not the longtern solution as closer. He often struggles against the first batter of the inning, he is way too inconsistent from day to day and is way too wild. Today he was all over the place, yet had luck and undisciplined Phillie hitters on his side(Bruntlett,Feliz, Ruiz). Think about it.....he could have lost this game in so many ways had the Phillie's not beat themselves.
  18. As much as it pains me to say it, the Troll does have a good point though. The Mark Prior nightmares have already started for me. Imagine waking up at two in the morning screaming in the darkness after dreaming that Prior no-hit the Cubs at Wrigley this summer. OMG...Say it can't happen. Say it won't happen.
  19. It's amazing how the entire Wrigley thing has escalated. I remember going to Cubs games with my Dad and half the ballpark was empty........on the weekend, no less. It all changed in 1984. Not really. It was really easy to get face value tickets from 85-98. By the end of 98, tickets were hard to get. 98 changed everything. The disaster of 99/00 eased some of the demand, but by then people were hooked and preseason sellouts were the norm. 2003 solidified it and now it'll take a lot to deflate that demand. I agree, 1998 did it. In 1997 I went to 6 games. 2 games I ordered tix the week prior to the game, 4 of the games were game day walkups. I got upper-deck behind home plate seats in front of the press box, upper deck right next to the camera well, box level seats on the first base side, etc... Once Harry died and the whole celebrity sing along thing started, that was the end of that.
  20. baseball is a different sport, plus the athletes do it for a living and are grown men. if they can't calm themselves down within the slow pace of a baseball game, then they shouldn't be in the big leagues. but i understand your point. I don't know about that. I mean assess the situation and take a look at what you've got here. You've got a kid a year removed from college on the mound pitching in the NLCS for a legendary team that is famous for choking come crunch time. You also have a red hot Marlins team that Dusty (and all of baseball) knows has been pulling off miraculous comebacks and unbelievable finishes throughout the month of September and the playoffs with their offense. You also have Alou and his tantrum inciting the fans and the crowd going nuts over this blunder. Dusty need to do something. He should have at least gone out there and settled down rookie Prior. Maybe even pull a Tony LaRussa-like stall tactic and go out there and talk to the umps. players, and waste time so that the players could collect their thoughts and refocus.
  21. I don't know...there are lots of situations throughout the season where the closer doesn't always get a lot of time to warm up. You get KW throwing in the pen in the bottom of the 8th inning, your hitters go down 1-2-3 on 11 pitches and next thing you know it's Kerry time. Solo shot by Ramirez with 2 out in the bottom of the 8th inning, Cubs are up 1-0 and the next thing you know it is Kerry time. He can't pitch under these tight closer restraints where every pitch counts. Everyone says "relax, it is only one game...." and I agree, but yesterday's game is a prime example of why Kerry shouldn't be used as a closer. He takes a long time to warm up and needs to throw a few pitches and face a few batters to settle into a pitching groove. You Wood followers know that he has been like this his entire career.
  22. Ridiculous. Seconded. Especially about Marquis getting the starting job. Oh well....I'm sure the job will be Lieb's by mid July.
  23. Looks like CC needs Tommy John surgery. Thats great news for Cubs fans. The Cubs can never catch a break against that guy. He owns this team. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring2008/news/story?id=3308363
  24. Ah yes! A sure sign that spring has finally arrived in Chicago. Longer days, construction on the roads and Kerry is hurt again. The man is so regular that they can name a comet after him.
