  1. This is why people think Law and Goldstein are insufferable. A phrase like "extra guy at best" is just irritating and trolling.
  2. I think that's interesting, as long as they're not solely bound to it. That was Theo, right? Not Jed?
  3. I think he's become very wary of free agency, partly because he was burned in Boston a few times and partly because fewer guys make it to FA while in their prime (as Jed said last night). So with that in mind, I think he's of the mindset that a total teardown is the only way to really set the Cubs up for the future. I trust these guys, even if the "ready to compete" phase seems like it's going to be a year or so later than most people thought. At the same time, I don't think Jed's hesitancy to put a date on competing means anything. Kind of a dumb question, really, since if he says 2014 that puts pressure on them to win 90 games in 2014. Better to be vague.
  4. I'll take "why starlin's lady friend cried wolf" for $600, alex. I think a simple "that's what she said" would have had a little more punch there. So easy.
  5. I think it's because he's a fiscal guy that doesn't have a baseball background and he represents the old Tribune regime.
  6. am i alone in visiting this message board?
  7. Was that a facetious sentence, too?
  8. What? No. That's what it sounds like nearly everyone is thinking. What a weird rhetorical question.
  9. This. I'd even go as far as saying to sit him out the first three games of the year to really make sure he's feeling better. That should still be two easy wins against the Colts and Rams, then just take your chances with the Packers. Not that they'll ever do it. The first month of the season I referred to equals the first three games of the year. I don't have time to read multiple sentences.

  11. I'm hoping Sveum can come up with some genius shift that allows Vogelbach and Rizzo to both basically play first base. Something like this http://i46.tinypic.com/2eujuar.jpg It can't be worse than having Adam Dunn playing outfield.
  12. Of course he can. The argument "can he be any worse than ...?" isn't really a valid point. Someone can always be worse.
  13. How athletic is Vogelbach? I know a lot of people talk about how Prince Fielder is fat, but pretty quick on his feet (for a fat guy). Does Vogelbach have any of that or is he just a really big dude?
  14. I don't mind this. They might as well get a jump on evaluating the guys first-hand. Jackson has had a lot of time at AAA, so there's not much to be gained by staying there. Also a thought (however random) that maybe they want to showcase Vitters better for a trade in the offseason.
  15. I don't know how bringing Jackson up will make him feel less pressure.
  16. Yeah who wants the opportunity to represent their country in the stupid Olympics?
  17. "[expletive], WHY AM I STUCK WITH THIS TALENTED PITCHER?!?! OH, WOE IS ME." Are you really that clueless or just trolling? Who the [expletive] cares how talented is. A. He's not going to be around when this teams competitive. B. This team needs to be building for the future and acquiring as much young talent as it can. It's not rocket science. We need to turn him into multiple talented pitchers that will be around for when we are competitive, that's what I think most of us would prefer. Exactly. Why should the Cubs want Garza to hang around next year when they aren't planning on being competitive?
  18. What's he going to do? It's not like he's Michael Corleone.
  19. So is a qualifying offer the same as offering arbitration? Is this a new CBA thing or are they different terms for the same thing?
