  1. He's 8th? The highest he can possibly is 5. I have him 6 behind Pierce Johnson. "Not anywhere near that low" is not accurate. He should be solidly 5th. 5th - 8th isn't an enormous gulf. It is when 5, 6, and 7 have no business being ahead of him. It's just a list. What's the point of having different ones if people are going to flip out over trivial differences in rankings?
  2. Nope. Avg fastball speed this year is 84.4 mph.
  3. Better not be sellers next year. Agreed. The offseason is going to suck if every guy we sign has a Kazmir/Feldman/Maholm buzz of hoping he's good for 3 months so we can flip him for prospects.
  4. Gammons later added, "jhjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj."
  5. My gay black uncle says the Rangers fanbase is terrible, so.
  6. I forgot all about Trey McNutt. Looked him up and this is his 4th year in a row at Tennessee. No signs of going anywhere else either.
  7. My recollection was a pretty overwhelming dislike of the deal. Partly for who was given up though mostly because people thought Garza wasn't very good.
  8. if we get good pitchers back, i see no reason to freak out about Olt. he still intrigues me greatly. Agreed. And Theo & Jed aren't going to take him back if they don't have some notion he can turn it around.
  9. Not that this is a surprise or anything. http://www.csnchicago.com/cubs-talk/what-cubs-are-looking-garza-deal
  10. I find that hard to believe.
  11. Yeah, I don't understand it. You're taking a huge risk by going to college and potentially leaving a retirement fund on the table. Right. Plus opportunity cost of cash in hand, etc. Just take it.
  12. That is everyone's one memory of Joba Chamberlain.
  13. I still don't know what that means. Obscure prospect lingo makes people sound really cool so just go with it.
  14. If it weren't for semantics, internet forums wouldn't exist.
  15. luckily there are people who are not as smart as sandy alderson and andrew friedman running baseball teams, and i'm pretty sure there are still some who have no idea wtf a .218 BABIP against means. that's not to say i think there's any chance in hell you get a top 25 prospect for travis wood. yeah you're right that there are still the ned colettis out there, but i think the number of morons running baseball teams is really low. and even if the GM sucks, many (most?) mlb teams now have sabermetrically-inclined departments that would advise not to trade a king's ransom for a pitcher having a fluky good year. And I'm sure even Ned Coletti knows what a .218 BABIP means.
  16. oh brother. this guy has a future in broadcasting for sure. Truffle have you ever played ball before? These ball players see each other more than they see their families. Traveling together, eating together, and hell they even shower together. When you compete in a team sport against other teams you bond together. It sort of like having a little brother...you can beat the hell out him anytime but by god if someone else lays a hand on him all sorts of hell will get unleashed. I don't think anyone here has actually played baseball before. We all just obsessively talk about it for other reasons that don't involve ever playing the game.
  17. He's not just a "yes man", though. He's a really good and respected coach and letting those kinds of people go over pissing matches makes the organization worse.
  18. That's not a fair comparison since it's not a $$$ for $$$ thing. The IFA money isn't just based on whatever a team wants to spend, they need to have access to the slots.
  19. I think that seriously underestimates the price to keep Garza. He's not going to come back on a reasonable deal. He's going to hit a money-rich, talent-poor FA market as the best pitcher available and get something stupid. Then you can pat yourself on the back with the No. 35 overall pick or whatever that might slot into the back of our top 10, instead of getting a top 100 prospect + a guy as good as the No. 35 pick. Yea, his deal will be big. Not quite like the Greinke contract, but his agent will probably push for that to be a starting point with similar ages and career numbers.
  20. Tyrant

    Castro

I realize he's talented and can get better but it really seems like he's ruined. He probably isn't, it just looks so bleak.
  21. Something that's not old and terrible? well that's your fault
