  1. I absolutely wanted Ohtani on any deal possible. The Ricketts can pay it all, and he would have given the Cubs a better chance at winning another World Series every year he played.
  2. I hate how much I agree with that statement. It just seems wrong, but they weren't all that dissimilar over the whole season as far as hitting. And the difference in cost (assuming the $$ gets spent to improve other positions in this scenario) isn't worth the difference in defense and power
  3. If it's not Passan or Rosenthal reporting it, I'm not believing it.
  4. Thank you, Mitch!
  5. https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/1732609518473720236?t=HJGdvpQJdHSSzLU5-zzrQA&s=19 Deal with Yankees is official, per Passan
  6. Daniel didn't even sign with the Cubs... went to college and was later drafted and signed by the Angels
  7. The definitive statements about what they are or are not offering Ohtani are just complete speculation. Nobody but the FO and the players/agents that receive the offers knows the details.
  8. Quick run through of teams in the hunt and their QBs 1st rounders: Tua (2nd qb, #5 ovr), Allen (3rd, pick 7), Lamar (4th, pick 32), Pickett (1st qb, pick 20), Watson (3rd qb, pick 12), Mahomes (2nd QB, pick 10), Lawrence (#1), Stroud (#2, 2nd qb), Goff (#1, acquired via trade), Love (4th qb, pick 26) and Stafford (#1) Others: Minshew (though Colts picked Richardson 4th, 3rd qb taken), Russ (3rd rounder, multiple 1sts traded to acquire), Hurts (2nd rounder, 5th! qb taken), Dak (4th rd), Dobbs/Cousins (low pick/big FA signing of previous 4th rd pick), Purdy (7th), and Geno Smith (2nd rd, 2nd QB - what a terrible overall draft 2013 was, yikes)
  9. Staff and their specific roles should be announced soon. Trades are likely regardless of Ohtani
  10. Best shot at a Patriots win Thursday involves a defensive score or two... cmon Mitch
  11. Wish it was Nightengale saying that. Then we would know to look for a signing tonight.
  12. Day wouldn't say he was definitely the starter moving forward in his latest press conference. I bet they go to the portal. Dillon Gabriel? Riley Leonard? Cam Ward?
  13. Horton is breaking camp with the big league team and winning ROY. I'm speaking it into existence. With Brown, it might depend more on who is brought in for the rotation/traded out
  14. Mariners gonna trade a pitcher for an OF now?
  15. As an Illinois fan, I would love that, because then it would seem like they actually have something to compete for. There's almost no way that they manage to be top 2 in the B1G. They would have to be as good or better than all of Mich, OSU, PSU, Washington, and Oregon in addition to all the teams below that level but still usually better than Illinois (Wisky, Iowa, UCLA, etc.)
  16. The Sox deserve Zaidman on TV
  17. Pass was so good it shocked his teammate
  18. 2 observations about the embedded tweets: 1. Maddux looks so awkward in the first one 2. I'm pretty sure the umpire made the correct call in the one where Z loses his mind
  19. Nobody who owns a major North American sports franchise is ever hurting for $. It may be the single most profitable "investment" available
  20. I don't think you have to get one (or two) of those 3 for the offseason to be a success, but it becomes a lot harder if you don't. I don't know that I place Yamamoto in the same Tier as Ohtani and Soto because they're proven superstars and he hasn't proven it at the MLB level, but given his age and expected performance he is right behind them. Missing on players on the level of Ohtani and Soto knocks everything down because they can be generally counted on for such a high baseline of performance. a .949 OPS would be awesome to drop into your lineup. He's also been well above that twice already in his career, and hitting at Wrigley seemingly should help his power numbers.
  21. Marquee might finally pay off! Or it will be just like the draft rules changing right when Theo got here and the Cubs are just far enough behind to miss out on the full benefit
  22. Who cares about excess value? Can he pitch 125-150 generally awesome innings? If so, sign me up
  23. So when do they fire Donovan? It's clearly not working with this roster, but it seems like AK and Co. are more likely to blame the coach than the roster they put together.
  24. Shoot, if they can get Glasnow, I'd just pencil Horton in to take over when he is hurt. Maybe the injury risk and $$ considerations make it so TB takes lesser guys like a Keegan Thompson/Kohl Franklin type of package
