    Here is the list of top 5 hitters in all of baseball who have come available at age 26 (which Soto will turn after next season, just before becoming a FA) during the time the Ricketts family has owned the team: Bryce Harper, Manny Machado (YMMV on whether or not he was a top 5 hitter, I would argue not, but he was probably close) Harper had posted OPS+ of 133, 156, 114, and 198 the 4 years before FA. Machado ran his at 145, 108, 130, and 132 Soto's last 4 seasons were 158, 147, 175 and a 217 in the covid year... 142 the year before that, as a 20 year old Even those 2 haven't produced consistently great numbers like Soto. And they were both available the same offseason with nearly every team bidding for them. I would imagine the Cubs made good, but not good enough, offers to both. But either way, comparing the FAs they've signed to Soto is irrelevant, because there have basically been 3 FAs like Soto that I can recall since 2000, those 2 and ARod when he signed with Texas for 10/252.

    Trading Morel for Soto doesn't remove talent from our MLB roster. It IMPROVES the talent of our MLB roster, at the (not insignificant) cost of money and maybe an additional minor leaguer or 2

    Screw you, Poles. You have roughly a billion dollars in cap space and only like 4 good players on the roster. Sign the guy! What can we even get? A 3rd rounder? Odds are that 3rd rounder is much worse than JJ.

    If you somehow have the opportunity to trade Morel straight up for Soto (or even Morel and a prospect around 20th in our system) you take it. He's a freakin superstar. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Glasnow (who is as likely to blow out his arm as he is to pitch well for a whole season) and a prospect who has performed well in the minors, but has no MLB track record? why on earth would you make that deal and not one for Soto? Yes, you give up years on control. But having a player like Soto on the roster changes everything. You put him in the lineup everyday and let him be a top 5 hitter in the league. Everyone else becomes more valuable, because when the guys in front of him get on, they're more likely to score, and the guys behind him are more likely to get ABs with guys on base. WAR is an imperfect measure of value that I think probably underestimates guys who do one thing exceptionally well

    How valuable would Luis Vazquez be to them? I know he hasn't sniffed the majors and this year was a career year with the bat, but he's got a pretty great reputation defensively

    Juan Soto likely gets you closer to a WS this year than Christopher Morel and whatever prospects (Killian? Christian Franklin? Arias?) you might send with him. He's a star, and his impact in the Cubs lineup would be tremendous. He's the best young hitter in the game. You have to give up value to get value. Having him in Chicago playing for a (presumably) winning team probably gives you a boost in FA negotiations.

    Favre is a pretty notable example of success with a 2nd team, but i guess he wasn't really a bust with the Falcons.

    I'd go ahead and give Leiter a contract, but if he doesn't have the splitter in ST cut him loose. And if he has it for a while then loses it for a few outings, cut him loose. We are a big market team, no need to let a less than $2M decision hurt our roster. Palencia, Cuas and Little all need to be given a shot, but I think ideally at least 2 of them open in Iowa, if not all 3, due to arms we trust more.

    This game is over. The Raiders won't be able to score 3 times because they can't stop the Bears junk offense fast enough. Man, they're bad.

    I've often wondered if McKennie could be a CB. I imagine he could hold up physically, would give you really good passing for a CB, and tons of range covering for other players... no idea if it's feasible, but it would allow us to have a more talented player on the field, and it's not like our CBs are setting the world on fire, as a 74 year old Tim Ream might still be our best CB

    NFL told Rodgers that wasn't allowed when he was negotiating with the Jets. Can't imagine it would be allowed for a draft pick either.

    The Cabrera contract isn't aging well, and nobody should have expected it to, but that's not Detroit's biggest problem. Their biggest problem is the other poor signings they've made (Javy being one of the strongest examples) and lack of development from their minor leagues. Their 2018 and 2019 rosters are just abysmal

    exactly... and the two games for which they have had the most time to prepare (GB to open the season, Minnesota off the mini-bye) they have looked woefully unprepared. Eberflus is 0-8 vs the NFC North, and I sure wouldn't bet against him being 0-12 at the end of this year...

    My bad... Arizona's picks... and to answer @jersey cubs fan it obviously wouldn't make sense for Houston because they dont need to move up for a QB, but maybe Arizona would. I was just an idiot and mixed up the way the trade went last year

    Saw someone float the idea of trading #2 (if the Bears get 1 and 2) for both picks the Texans own. As long as one of those is top 7ish, I'm game for that idea. Maybe pick Brock Bowers or an OT with the first, and go either WR or EDGE with the 2nd to go with Williams/Maye

    Absolutely. I'm just looking at Alcantara in terms of his option years left and our current OF situation. With Happ and Seiya taking the corners for the next 2 years and PCA hopefully locking down CF, there doesn't seem to be a lot of space for him. Add in Caissie being on a similar track and Canario already at the big league level, our OF seems crowded and he's a potential big piece in a deal for a 3B/1B/SP
