    With the way this team is constructed (which, that's a whole other argument) they need to be able to win on the margins, and it just hasn't happened. Ross has seemingly not trusted enough guys early, leading to large workloads for guys with injury history like Alzolay and Fulmer and someone who has never faced a relief workload like this in Leiter Jr., and trusted guys like Cuas just because. Batting order doesn't matter a ton, but it seems to me that guys in horrible slumps (Happ earlier this year, Swanson now) have gotten way more ABs high in the order than their performance deserved. Anecdotally, it also seems like he has been too slow to react to his pitchers losing it, not having guys up when a starter is running out of gas, not getting guys up when pen arms clearly don't have it on a given night, etc.

    This game is our season in a nutshell... starts ok, then a blow up, then clawing back, looking good for a while, then a final collapse... I assume we'll score 2 in the 9th for a dead-cat bounce that will be taking the first 2 from the Rockies before we lose our final 7

    assuming the backup sucks (and I'm pretty sure Jumbo is right and it's Andy Dalton - who sucks) the Panthers are more likely to lose and thus improves that draft pick... it's a reach for something positive in a really ugly Bears week

    not sure who their backup is, but as with most NFL teams, he's probably not that good, so if Young doesn't play, that's good for the Bears

    haven't seen any updates... Fulmer having the same issue and going back on the IL after only 1 appearance after his previous IL stint sure doesn't seem like good news.

    Shaw hasn't played a lot of 3B because he's been a capable SS in college, but you know that. Murray is a short 1B who they've given time at 3B who may be solid for all I know, but he's moving up the defensive spectrum to 3B while Shaw is moving down. It is a safe and fair assumption that Shaw is more likely to be an average or better MLB 3B defender than Murray.
