Overrated how? The guy has been an amazing player. All you keep going on and on about is how he can't make last minute shots. If you're saying "overrated" in terms of how people would stack him up next to Jordan, fine...but if you're saying he's overrated in the sense that he's NOT a great player, well, that's just ridiculous. He's about the 16th best player ever according to per. I doubt most people have him that low. Thus why I feel he's overrated. And besides the Jordan comparisons, we have to hear people talk about him being the greatest Laker ever, when you could make the case for Kareem or Magic as one of, if not the, greatest player ever. (Also, Kobe wasn't even the best laker during his career. Shaq was clearly the best player in the league for those dynasty years.) Also, the post-Shaq but pre-gasol lakers struggled to even make the playoffs--in a league where making the playoffs isn't very difficult. Lebron had some bad supporting casts and still always ended up with one of the best records in the East. I do think Kobe is a great player, but I also think he gets over-rated in terms of basketball history. If you're going to compare LeBron and the Cavs to Kobe's Lakers post-Shaq and pre-Gasol it is correct to say that they both had poor supporting casts. But to criticize Kobe for not making the playoffs as frequently is simply ignoring the fact that the Western Conference had better teams in that span, and continues to have more competitive teams. 2004-05 Lakers (post-Shaq year 1): Lakers finish 34-48; Kobe plays 66 games Worst Western Conf. Playoff team is Memphis at 45-37, which would have placed them tied for 5th in the East (9th place MIN would have tied for 6th best record in East) 2nd best player: Lamar Odom 15.2/10.2/3.7 PTS/REB/AST - 64 games 3rd best player: Caron Butler 15.5/5.8/1.9 4th best player: Chucky Atkins 13.6/2.4/4.4 05-06 Lakers: Finish 45-37 (7th in W. Conf. - would have been 5 seed in East... IND/CHI 41-41 get 6/7 seeds, MIL 40-42 gets 8 seed) 2nd best player: Lamar Odom 14.8/9.2/5.5 3rd best player: Smush Parker 11.5/3.3/3.7 4th best player: Chris Mihm 10.3/6.2/1.0 - 59 games 06-07 Lakers: Finish 42-40 (7th W. Conf. - would have been 6th in EC... NJ/WSH 41-41 get 6/7 seeds, ORL 40-42 gets 8 seed) 2nd best player: Odom 15.9/9.8/4.8 - 56 games 3rd best player: Luke Walton 11.4/5.0/4.3 - 60 games 4th best player: Smush Parker 11.1/2.5/2.8 so yes, the Lakers were not great in those years, however, Kobe had a terrible supporting cast other than Lamar Odom (who is quite talented, but far from a star) and one year of Caron Butler (another talented but merely solid player) and they played in the more difficult Western Conference... Kobe is no Jordan, and in my opinion most people who truly know basketball wouldn't really say that they are on the same level. However, to use those years as your argument that he is overrated is a bit off-base
