  1. Bud Selig is a coward. He won't use any muscle against the union, who has yet to give any logical reason why they won't submit to a stricter testing/punishment policy. He never makes statements publicly, instead resorting to faxing his statements to new agencies. Selig is a used car salesman. It is beyond me how he has managed to retain his position as long as he has. What the league needs is a commissioner who is neither a former player nor a former owner. You need a truly impartial arbiter for this league.
  2. Hindsight is always 20/20, and it's easy to rail on trades many years later. Yes, the Cubs traded Jon Garland (a 1st round pick) for Matt Karchner. Garland was a .500 pitcher or worse for 6 years before his breakout season. Still a bad trade, though I think had Garland stayed, he would have been traded already because the club would have been impatient with him (like Cruz, etc.) Also traded that year, Todd Noel (a 1st round pick) for Felix Heredia. Noel disappeared after not panning out. How quickly we forget that one. I don't claim to follow the minor leagues too closely, but I have to say that I had no idea who Dontrelle Willis was until his rookie season. I thought getting Alf and Clement for some prospects was a steal at the time.
  3. Correct. They basically took the choice away from the players back when Boggs (I think?) wanted to go in as a D-Ray? They need to take the caps off the players and just list the teams they played for. Free Agency has made the whole "player represented one team" thing out of the picture (with the notable exceptions of guys like Ripken, Biggio, Jeter, Gwynn)
  4. Leave the deadline where it is. The NHL deadline, for example, is like a day before the playoffs (okay, a little earlier, but might as well be...) That's dumb. On the contrary, it feels like the NFL deadline is like Week 5 or 6? Early.
  5. Hey, hey! Leave it to the expert: http://www.simleaguebaseball.com/talltales/moran.jpg Redneck Cardinal Fan doesn't like his thunder to be stolen!
  6. I don't think WIlliams or Hill have done anything to remove them from the rotation. You'd like to see longer outings, but neither has gotten shelled yet. Rusch doesn't excite me.
  7. Macias could have totally caught it. It was all of a foot or two above the fence line. He didn't even jump.

  9. You speak English very goodly.  me fail english? that's unpossible!
  10. can Murton play 1B? If so, i really would wish Dusty would give DLee the day off because thats the only way IMO that were going to see Murton play unless hes a PH :x You'd be more likely to see Walker at 1B, Macias at 2B and Hollandsworthless in LF
  11. I thought the Phillies' new stadium was pitcher friendly. Am I wrong? You are. It's almost as homer-friendly as Great American or Coors

  13. The problem with Dusty being a "player's manager" is that he's buddies with everyone. It's like a parent wanting to be buddies with his kids. Once that relationship is established, you can't discipline them anymore. A manager like Lou Piniella, Jack McKeon, etc. would have a closed door meeting right after the game and rip everyone a new a**hole. We need a baseball manager in the mold of Bill Parcell or Bill Cowher of the NFL. EDIT: Sorry BacktoBanks. I didn't read your post. Well, we agree, even if I repeated your general sentiments.
  14. if he keeps getting walked 1 or 2 times per game, he's going to be limited to 2 or 3 at-bats. An 0-2 or a 1-3 will keep pulling his average down.
  15. First off, I hope he does win it, but... Assuming Lee can pass Carlos Lee for RBI's, I still don't think he'll lead the league in this category. Why? Because his teammate, Aramis Ramirez, will pass him. After Ramirez's 2 RBI single in the 8th inning of tonight's game, he now has 78 RBI to Lee's 83. Now, as teams are starting to intentionally walk Lee everytime first base is open, his RBI chances will go down, while Ramirez is more and more likely to bat with men on base. So unless Dusty stops sacrificing with his #2 hitter in front of Lee every time, I think A-Ram will end up leading the team in RBI.
  16. You assume Nomar is back next year? Or you are talking strictly about the remainder of this season?
  17. Hahahaha. The HAHA guy never gets old. But I must use him sparingly....he must always use the element of surprise for greatest affect...
  18. Really? I'd trade any Cub if it made the team better. I'm sure KC could put together a nice package for Pie. THE only player on the Royals, or in their system I would even considered for Felix Pie is Zack Greinke. And even then, I still wouldn't do it. Pie is going to be a "special" player, and you don't trade special players. You know this how? Special like Patterson? Or Hill? Choi? Harris? Not doubting Pie has the skill set to do well, but I'm not buying any prospect as being "the next big thing" until they actually prove it.
  19. Speaking of Morans: http://www.simleaguebaseball.com/talltales/moran.jpg
  20. Holly is due, dude! Thankfully Hollandsworthless DOES have crappy career numbers vs. Padilla or we might have seen Lawton on the bench in his first game as a Cub (oh, like Gerut did for all but 1 or 2 of his games). Dusty is a Moran, I wouldn't have bet against that kind of idiocy.
  21. I believe anyone on the 40 man roster (ie w/ a major league contract) falls under the MLB testing policy, while non-roster minor leaguers fall under the minor-league testing. Thus, players like Jamal Strong and so forth are listed as having failed the MLB policy even though they aren't on a major league roster right now.
  22. I have no doubts that that is true. I saw a story a while back (I think on ESPN.com) that there was less than overwhelming support for Bonds, McGwire, and Sosa to make the Hall because of the speculation. Wouldn't it be something if Barry came back to break Hammerin' Hank's record and did NOT make the HOF? Won't happen. Steroids or not, I'm not sure anyone can, in good conscience, leave a 6 time MVP out of the Hall without hard proof that someone cheated throughout their career.
  23. 26 already is out. Out before 10 was. And with any luck, 21 will be retired within a few years, also (depending on when he decides to hang them up) I would immagine that its kinda unofficially retired right now anyways, just like 23. I doubt anyone even thinks about wearing those numbers. Well, since the Cubs have retired exactly three numbers in over 100 years of existence, I doubt Sosa's # gets retired until he makes the Hall of Fame. Santo is the one exception to this rule so far (and I think his was only retired because of his continued work with the club + his failing health). Sandberg's will be retired at the start of next season I would imagine. #21 will be available for at least the next 6 or 7 years.
  24. Teams put everyone on waivers so it is less obvious who they are trying to move. You stole my thunder! Yes, teams mask who they are actually trying to clear through waivers by grouping them with players that they clearly aren't trying to trade. As for the Griffey thing, I think you're more likely to make a trade of vets for vets at this point than vets for prospects. Something along the line of the trade the Cubs made back in 1997 (I think) when they acquired Mark Clark and Lance Johnson in mid-August.
