    it's hard for me to believe that people are actively defending strikeouts on offense

    perhaps they try to keep their entries fact-based instead of opinion-based.

    First, strikeouts ARE bad when you have a lineup that is coached to be overly aggressive. Striking out on balls out of the zone is extremely counterproductive in that it a) creates an out when there shouldn't have been one and b) the pitcher is throwing far fewer pitches. As for the "runner on 3rd, less than 2 out" thing, that runner could score on: - a base hit - a passed ball - a wild pitch - a sac fly - an error - a fielder's choice - a squeeze play He will NOT score on: - a strikeout

    WGN will show Wednesday night games now that the horrible WB primetime lineup is in reruns.

    the overlap between the NFL and MLB has grown such that he couldn't play both at all anymore. NFL camps and preseason start with over 2 months left in the MLB season. An MLB team isn't going to let him stop playing in July, and an NFL team isn't going to let him show up for the first time for Game 6 of the schedule.

    What about Jeremy Bloom though...wasn't he in the US Skiing team? What's the difference between that and minor league ball? corporate sponsorship.

    Colvin is the only "important" player we've got playing in the CWS; Smith was only a 35th round selection and he's a junior. I'll bet he's going back unless we overslot him but who knows? I wasn't referring to the Cubs. The Short-A season in my town is a Cardinals affiliate.

    I'm wondering the same thing. That's kinda nuts. But then so is the NCAA. This is not all that uncommon. For example, Ricky Williams played minor league ball during the summer while at Texas. Playing pro baseball doesn't impact a guy's NCAA eligibility for any sport other than baseball. But does it make sense that they would be restricted from making money is so many other ways, but not this way? right. If a football player signed on to become a professional skateboarder or the like he'd probably lose his eligibility. Same with working at Walmart. Why is this exempt?

    I'm wondering the same thing. That's kinda nuts. But then so is the NCAA. maybe they figured that since he's at Notre Dame, $8 million would actually be a pay cut

    when is the CWS slated to finish? Our short season team here starts play on the 20th and we have some important players unsigned due to playing in the CWS

    So how exactly can a college player sign a professional contract but still play amateur sports? An NCAA Football player isn't even allowed getting a job at McDonalds....how can he legally start making money playing baseball?
