  1. If Trachsel is on a short leash for this game, hopefully Marshall is ready in the bullpen to fill in any missing innings and receives a chance to earn his job back. Marshall is supposed to pitch in one of the games on Saturday, so I don't know how much he'd be used on Thursday. Kevin Hart will probably be available to pitch, unless Marquis flops tomorrow night. I think Trachsel is going to be used as long as possible with 4 games in 3 days against the Cards this weekend. Marshall is scheduled to pitch game 2 of the DH on Saturday, so he's not likely to be used out of the pen. I'd much rather see them go with Hart or Gallagher as a long man...or better yet...not need to use a long man... i just hope everyone is mentally preparing themselves for a playoff roster that includes Trachsel but not Marshall
  2. Is it really that big of deal? Bob was up and he was MIA, so Flames started it, and since the Cubs won hes starting another one. People take this game thread starter crap wayyyyyyyyyy to serious. Apparently Bob lost his turn and Flames is in his spot now as I see in the Game Starters thread. Sorry for the overreaction, it's really not a big deal. Yeah, I PMed Bob and he never responded so he's been knocked off. The rule is that if a game thread isn't up after midnight, someone can spot start as Flames did. Seeing as the team actually got a win with Flames, I told him to keep going (I'm not going to be the one to jinx the team by telling UMF to go). UMFan is next. okay, cool. just because some people don't think the game thread starter rules are a big deal doesn't mean you should disregard them (not you, Raisin, but "you" as in everyone). Who's been disregarding the rules? it's not a big deal. i'm not going to go into it
  3. no, that's a win/lose. what people want is a win/win/win (where I win for successfully negotiating an office dispute).....
  4. payout except they're the same. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/2006-12-06-bowl-payouts_x.htm only since they moved to the NC game after new year's day bowls. That's like saying the Cubs have sucked only since they won their last World Series. um, no. i mean last year they played all the "named" bowls, then had one more game which was the NC game. OSU vs. Florida wasn't in a branded bowl Either way...you were wrong. You said the payout of the Rose Bowl made it better than the Sugar Bowl. I proved to you that they were the same. they were the same last year, yes. For years, the Rose Bowl was the highest paying bowl game We were talking about the present, not the past. cool. then the Rose Bowl is bigger than the Sugar because it's been around longer, is played in a bigger stadium, has more history.....
  5. here's hoping they don't crap the bed against Duke again

  8. for the 2nd day in a row, the Pirates game is not on FSN Pittsburgh (and yet is blacked out on mlb.tv for me, thus, yeah, i'm screwed)
  9. i think Laura is AWOL, cuz she'd be setting this straight if she were around

  12. payout
  13. no other sport worries about whether the best team wins the championship, why should college football be any better? in fact, the "best" team almost never wins the championship, especially in a single elimination playoff system. the NCAA Basketball tournament is the greatest championship in the world because it takes winning 6 games in a row to win it all. i don't understand why people are holding CFB to some higher standard than any other sport
  14. The one problem with this is-there is no incentive for margin of victory. Is a 1 point win worth the same as a 30 point win? If yes, then computer rankings are just fine. If a blowout adds value to a teams win, then something has to be done to account for that. they removed margin of victory from the computer portion of the BCS. the voters, however....
  15. i wouldn't mind the BCS so much if it would disregard subjective polls and just determined things based on RPI, etc.
  16. With a runner at 2nd? you doubt the cubs could manage?
  17. i'm now very sad that i can't make the word filter work.
  18. why is lilly still in? trying to save the pen?
  19. He has a no trade too because he isn't a 10-5 guy. he hasn't been on the Cubs for 5 years, so he's not a 10-5 guy Isn't that what I said? I did write it kind of funny. yeah, sorry. it was a weird sentence
