  1. i'm not actively cheering against the team, believe me, but I don't see what the difference between finishing a game out and being swept by the Mets really is
  2. Aside from the "blah blah anything can happen blah 2006 Cardinals blah blah" reasons.... ....do we really want this team to make the post season? do we want anyone in the new ownership, the front office, the media, etc. thinking this team is doing anything right? do we want this insanely mediocre team to be be rewarded in any way, shape or form? this isn't sour grapes. i just don't know what we accomplish by making the playoffs. outside of an outright WS victory, it just seems useless.
  3. huge triple by brad ausmus, 3-0 Houston
  4. 2 on, 1 out for Houston in Milwaukee
  5. I've noticed. At least, it seems pretty obvious it's the same kid. I once pointed out how I never see him add any respectable discussion whatsoever to any conversation and he just went off telling me how he knows everything there is to know about baseball and shows it in all his posts. I said, again, I haven't seen it -- then he linked me to something like 3 posts in the last maybe 2 years in which he'd have one semi-reasonable baseball post followed by a dozen more of the asinine immaturity. Impressive, eh? and yet people continue to react to him exactly the way he wants them to
  6. i saw Dane Cook on the Tourgasm tour (in an arena with 20,000+ people) and he was very funny. that said, he's pretty played out right now
  7. Penn State wanting to see Michigan lose to a non-con team is like Cubs fans wanting to see St. Louis lose to, say, San Diego
  8. in field hockey, right?
  9. There's no way in hell they make the title game with this loss on their resume, though. Obviously if they win out they'll make a BCS game but pretty much any one-loss team from a BCS conference is going to look like a more worthy team than Michigan will be. And considering 2/3 of the BCS is based on the voters, Michigan's title hopes appear to be dashed. Jon's point, however, is that this loss does nothing to hurt their chances of a division title
  10. pretty much. first thing I said after they lost was "i'd sure hate to play Michigan next week".
  11. it was awesome listening to the score updates of the Michigan game during the PSU game. Then the PSU game was over, and everyone in all the suites turned their TV's to the Michigan game. The last 2 minutes of the Michigan game was 1,000,000 times more exciting than any of the PSU game. The cheering could be heard down the hall in every suite on that blocked kick.
  12. so apparently the free tickets my dad scored for the PSU game today are in the Highmark Suite.....free buffet, free parking, skybox view. oh yeah
  13. Nate Longshore ftw. Derwood, I counted 10 I-AA for SEC, 6 for Big Ten And you missed South Florida as a BCS team. Big East? Don't quite know if you're questioning whether the Big East is worthy of a BCS bid(You included West VA), but yes USF is in the Big East. no, no, just checking that S.FLorida was in the Big East. didn't remember
  14. Nate Longshore ftw. Derwood, I counted 10 I-AA for SEC, 6 for Big Ten And you missed South Florida as a BCS team. Big East?
  15. turns out that they did the right thing with DuBois
  16. Just like the Kendall and Monroe deals, i'm going to reserve judgment until i see some numbers in a Cubs uniform. then, when he plays better than he did with his old team, i can laugh at you all and quote all your hilarious hyperbole
  17. just for the sake of information, the SEC and Big 10's non-con games: SEC Florida: W. Kentucky, Troy, Florida Atlantic, Florida St. Georgia: Oklahoma St., W. Michigan, Notre Dame Wisconsin: Washington St., UNLV, The Citadel, N. Illinois they are tied with 13 non-con games vs. BCS schools. someone else can count up 1-AA schools if they want to make that comparison
  18. the "easiest" way to compare two conferences is to run a simply RPI rating on each team. the most basic is to look at the records of each of the teams a school played, and the records of the schools those teams played. the NCAA scheduling is a total clusterhump. it's obnoxious that the Big 10 plays 12 straight weeks without a bye, while USC is playing 3 weeks later. Here's what they SHOULD (but won't) do: - EVERY team must be in a conference (I think there are only 2 or 3 who aren't anymore) - No conference larger than 12 teams - Every team plays 12 games over 13 weeks - Every team plays 10 conference games (unless conference is smaller than 11 teams) - Non-conference games are scheduled year to year (not 5 years in advance), with a rotating "conference vs. conference" schedule among BCS conferences. For example, this year, the Big 10 plays the SEC, with the #1 team from each conference playing, then the #2's, etc. - Non-conference games are scheduled by the NCAA, not the athletic directors. basically, take all the scheduling power out of the conference/school's hands and regulate and normalize it nation wide.
  19. this calls for a: :roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll:
  20. if you're gonna put him on intentionally, the least you can do is shatter his kneecap or something
  21. i picked craig counsell because there is no good reason he should ever actually be able to hit a ball. ever. and he has more than WS ring
  22. Lou said Blanco will get the start behind the plate. You're right, so then... 1. Ryan Theriot (SS) 2. Matt Murton (LF) 3. Derrek Lee (1B) 4. Aramis Ramirez (3B) 5. Craig Monroe (RF) 6. Mark DeRosa (2B) 7. Henry Blanco © 8. Jacque Jones (CF) don't ask me why, but i can see monroe batting 2nd
  23. i'll take his .370ish OBP any day though
