  1. Cliff Burton (RIP) + best Metallica song (For whom the bells toll) = Burtonbell I also use it for Burton C Bell from Fear Factory, one of my fav bands back in the day. For Whom the Bell Tolls is my favorite Metallica song also. I just get chills from the first 2 minutes of the song. That would be an awesome song to have as your "entrance music" (relief pitcher, UFC Fighter, et. al. Sadly, Metallica would likely not allow it.) I'm surprised you guys both say it's your favorite. Definitely not a bad song, but it probably wouldn't make my top 15 by them. Also, I don't think playing clips from the song for a brief period at the start of an AB violates copyright rules, so not even Metallica could shoot it down. Sort of like how we're allowed to post quotes from linked articles here, but can't post the whole thing. I can't recall specific instances in the majors, but I know there were several players from Oakland's AAA team that used clips from songs off Puppets, and they aren't far at all from Metallica's hometown of San Fran. I've never listened to their old stuff. Someone want to give a top ten list to give me some starting points? For Whom the Bell Tolls (Ride the Lightning) Fade to Black (Ride the Lightning) Seek & Destroy (Kill Em' All) Four Horsemen (Kill Em' All) Motorbreath (Kill Em' All) Battery (Master of Puppets) Master of Puppets (Master of Puppets) Sanitarium (Master of Puppets) Disposable Heroes (Master of Puppets) Blackened (...And Justice for All)
  2. I'm not going to deny that we are a college first state, but Jax is a small market with a huge stadium. Are we too small to deserve a team? maybe. when will pro sports learn? stop putting teams in florida. Baseball, hockey and football already have more teams than they should have there. the "pro teams per sq. mile" have to be pretty high down there. Massachusetts is probably highest though. Still: NFL: Miami, Jacksonville, Tampa MLB: Miami, Tampa NBA: Miami, Orlando NHL: Miami, Tampa That's 9 pro teams. California has 14. Texas has 8
  3. and they'd laugh at you Think so? If I offered them Gordon, Thomas, Wallace, and a couple picks and salary filler, do you really think they're going to get better offers than that from anyone not in their conference? we'll see, but I'm betting they would rather trade for Deng straight up than any package of filler/picks
  4. and they'd laugh at you
  5. Well to be fair, you did bring it up. And if I refer to someone by first name only, and you're confused as to who I could possibly mean, please...let me know and I'll clarify. :) i know who people mean its just to egotistical for my humbled self, as you might imagine ;) i dont like to call alex rodriguez, arod. or even ichiro suzuki, ichiro. the only first name people in sports ill do it to (off the top of my head): Mark Kerry i have the same rant about Senator Clinton, but people are sick of me saying it
  6. College Gameday will be broadcasting from Penn State this week.
  7. Rocktober has a much better ring to it than Rapril /The Dugout ©
  8. Now you're doing this: Replacing a hitter with a better hitter. I wouldn't keep OPS constant because I know that OPS that is OBP driven means more than OBP that is slugging driven. However, in this case the only way Soriano shouldn't bat lead off is if there's a realistic choice and that choice is a better hitter than him. Sizemore is a poor comparison and you justify this by saying they have the same OPS+ (which is a worthless statistic). You tried to prove your point by saying hey this guy is better thus obp kills soriano. the perfect comparison would be someone with an identical EqA and a higher OBP (lower SLG). When looking at this our choice is: .299/.337/.560 - Alfonso Soriano .258/.351/.459 - Nate McLouth .306/.353/.488 - Robinson Cano .263/.355/.441 - Ian Kinsler .265/.364/.463 - Josh Willingham .283/.369/.445 - Bobby Abreu As you can see we're looking at mainly .260/.360/.450 guys who OPS around 810 compared to Soriano's 897. i was just looking at another guy who, at first look, wouldn't normally be considered a leadoff guy (Sizemore)
  9. so, any word on when the server will be back up?
  10. Florida sucks for pro sports
  11. Because clearly the Cubs have Grady Sizemore as an option. Soriano is an eminently reasonable choice to lead off given the resources at hand. who said sizemore was an option? i'm simply asking what people would prefer if given two options with identical OPS+ : higher OBP/lower SLG or lower OBP/higher SLG So what point are you trying to make? If we had Sizemore in CF and Soriano in LF, are you seeing if anyone would suggest that batting Soriano 1st makes sense? i don't even remember anymore. something to do with Meph pulling out Ryan Freel as a "leadoff" guy that anyone with half a brain wouldn't want on the team instead of a comparable player to Soriano in the leadoff debate
  12. Bowden and Paterno will stop coaching when they want to stop coaching. no AD wants to be "that guy" who fired a coaching legend
  13. I completely agree with you
  14. Because clearly the Cubs have Grady Sizemore as an option. 15. no but uk losing to florida is fine because uk beat l'ville, uk beat lsu who beat vt. this isn't something that is hard to understand. if a conference performs better when they play out of conference, then when they play in conference there's a better argument for beating up on each other. the sec did fine out of conference, so when the play each other they beat up on each other. the little ten laid an egg outside of conference, so when they play each other its crap over crap. this is idiotic. so, because Michigan lost to App. State, none of their Big 10 wins mean anything?
  16. Say what you will about Griese, but there is absolutely a 0% chance that Grossman could have manufactured that scoring drive w/o radio communication (or even with it)
  17. ah, so #6 South Carolina losing to Vanderbilt is fine because Florida didn't almost lose to Western Kentucky. that's watertight logic
  18. for the reading impaired. i said nothing of non-conference play. discuss
  19. I had a winning record this year, so i have to keep that rolling next year
  20. At least they can still get the Led out. And have "2 fer" Tuesdays Mandatory Metallica?
  21. I'm waiting for an SEC homer to explain to me again why the Big Ten and Big East and Big 12 beating up on each other = weak conferences but the SEC beating up on each other = OMGBESTCONFERNCEEVAR!!11!1!
  22.
  23. is there an early line on the PSU/O$U game?
