I don't know how much UM will win by but I feel pretty confident saying they will beat Penn State. based on? I don't think Penn State is very good, UM has the better starting QB and offense in general, and the game is at the Big House. i think this year proves that being at the Big House has little to no effect on the game Penn State has to be at least 10 points better to overcome the refs. I will never forget in the game that Paterno chased down the ref, He must of told him about the obvious trap that a Penn St receiver got called a reception early in their last drive. Somehow I sure am he and the other Penn St fans havent been complaining about that call for 4 years. Only the one where their receiver caught the ball but was ruled out of bounds. Penn St gets just as many good calls as Michigan or Notre Dame or Michigan St or Illinois. They probably arent crying about the ones going in their favor. Only the ones that go against them. The truth is Michigan has been a better team than Penn St for the last 8 yrs or so. If your team would focus on that instead of "refs" you might actually get better. 2 seconds

i lived in Racine back in 1982 when the Brewers went to the series. they were my first favorite team. that year also started my hate for the Cardinals

Maybe there is no answer to this, but.... Why does the pitcher who starts the game have to log 5 IP in order to get a Win, but if he's pulled before hand, any pitcher can come in, throw one pitch and get the win? Why shouldn't the rule simply be "no pitcher can get a win before 5 innings are complete"?

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the Braves announced that Smoltz and Hudson were not going to start this weekend. they're going to sign Denny Neagle and let Mike Hampton give it a go

those two off days are gonna be very painful for the Cubs (what with having to watch Milwaukee gain a 1/2 game while they sit at home)

Ben Sheets may miss his next start,,,We are in fine shape. He may miss a lot more tha that, and dont forget that we face the Pirates this weekend and most likely miss Gorzelanny and Snell. UMFan83 has Zambrano facing Gorzelanny this weekend in his "Probable Starters" thread

Henne's not starting this week either? not that Morelli is any good, but Henne is second only to Carr for UM's consistent underachievement the past few years. I just assumed that Mallett will be starting. Not sure though. Henne has been upgraded from week-to-week to day-to-day

That's nonsensical propaganda for those that don't want a tournament. It has no bearing in this, or any, logical discussion. i agree, just bringing it up as several people argue from that point of view if we're going to argue who deserves to go, i'd rather use a CBB style RPI rating over a margin of victory or poll-based system

i really, REALLY don't understand why MLB is so reluctant to use records to determine things. best record determines homefield in every other sport

and if we're going to talk about how "the beauty of CFB is that every game counts" then yes, we don't include 1 loss teams in the NC game, regardless of the circumstances

comparing Hawaii's SOS to Penn State's is completely laughable

he has a good point though. the coin flip is dumb unless the teams are tied head-to-head (which usually doesn't happen since they play an uneven # of games against each other in most cases)

lucky for me, I lived in Chicago from 92-05, so I got to see dozens of games with horrible Cubs teams! -
should we count baseball victories differently if the team wins by 12 instead of by 1?

so say LSU beating Arkansas say 42-21 should be worth as much as Florida beating Arkansas 21-20? Thats dumb. If you want to cap margin of victory at something, say 21-24 points, thats fine. Margin of victory certainly matters just as it does in baseball. But looking at final scores can be deceiving. I'll use your scores for an example. LSU wins after the score is 21-21 on a last minute TD and they return an offside kick for a TD. Florida is ahead 21-0 and puts in reserves and they give up 2 quick TD's and now they are on their heels and Arkansas scores again on a fumble recovery and then goes for 2 and fails. There are many scenarios like this that effect the final score and make the final score look different than the actuality of what really happened. exactly. i also don't like a system that would encourage coaches to keep their starters in a blowout game, as there is a huge chance that people get hurt. why should JoePa keep Morelli out there in a 31-3 game in the 4th quarter?
