  1. I will wait until the Philly series. Freaking after one game fits the Philly mold as well. When do they go to Philly? They go next Friday, I go Saturday and Sunday. next Friday, not this Friday so.....we agree.....
  2. if no one else gets to it first he can
  3. my dog's name is Mojo, but we had him before MojoPin joined NSBB
  4. usually not until 2 hours before game time at the earliest
  5. Can't do it....I work in an office with a large number of Cubs fans. Last year I tried blocking out the games a couple of times, and every time it was ruined by someone screaming "ARAMIS HOME RUN!!!" or something like that. There is no way I'd be able to keep the outcome of the game a secret in my office. well how are they watching the game but not you? They're not, their following the games on Sportsline or MLB.com. The point is, if I DVR the game, I am going to want to watch it without knowing the final outcome. It's impossible to do so at my office. clearly, the best course of action is to blow the whistle on all your co-workers and get them fired for following baseball on company time. makes sense to me
  6. Just reading through some of these, this one caught my eye and I couldn't figure out who he was talking about off the top of my head. Reds, Twins, and Os came to mind but don't think those are right. I assume they are referring to the Twins, selling Johan for cheap then signing Nathan
  7. yeah, it was all 1998. during college, you could walk up on a Saturday afternoon Cardinals game and get seats

  10. it's amazing how fast this rooftop commerce has escalated. When I was in undergrad ('92-'96), the only people you saw on those rooftops were the residents of the building. on a nice day you might see 2 or 3 guys sitting around a hibachi, grilling up burgers and drinking cheap beer.
  11. Aren't the bars in the area also profiting from someone else's product? oh come on, you're smarter than that. It depends on how you consider profiting. I'm sure some good lawyer would try to prove this. there is a huge difference between taking advantage of a tourist attraction next door and charging people to see something that normally requires paid attendance. Would Tinley Park allow me to build a residential building close enough to the Tweeter Center such that my rooftop has an unimpeded view of all the concerts? Could I then charge people admission to my rooftop to see the concerts? I don't think that would fly
  12. hundreds, though generally they don't offer single tickets. the cost is in the thousands to rent the rooftop for one game It typically rented out to Corps. at around 120 a head. You figure they can typically squeeze about 75 (guessing) people on average, you're talking about 10 grand a game. yup, sometimes more. So you're talking about $800,000 per rooftop per season, not including what they make off off of food. I'm sure multiple rooftops are owned by the same people

  14. on the old board you could set an end date when you made a poll. i did it all the time on the Rock Band poll
  15. in Bartman's defense, it is REALLY hard to know where a ball is going to land. I was at a minor league game last summer and sat in the 4th row. A foul ball got hit very high and right towards our section. I thought it was coming right to me until the fielder reached in and caught it 2 rows in front of me. in other words, it's extremely easy to blame a guy in the first row but if you just sit there with our hands in your pockets you're probably going to get a baseball in the face
  16. GM's aren't smart, they're old fashioned, and they play the "old boys club" game as well as anyone
  17. statistically speaking, Roberts would have had a 1.3% better chance to get on base than Theriot, and that's without looking at how Roberts has hit against Sheets
  18. this is the most ludicrous debate i've seen in minutes
  19. i'm absolutely sure that i never saw the game in its entirety
  20. they don't offer the upgrade?
  21. and since Theriot+Soriano will bat .000 for the rest of the year and Roberts will bat 1.000.....
  22. hundreds, though generally they don't offer single tickets. the cost is in the thousands to rent the rooftop for one game
  23. Dusty Baker's making a plausible decision with Scott Hatteberg, of the Moneyball fame. He hit .310/.394/.474 last season and had a very nice season the year before. Sure he's getting up there in age, but at this point he's not much different than Votto. Hatteberg having a good OBP (ie: Moneyball reference) and Dusty putting him in the lineup are 100% coincidental
  24. Or they thought the dirt was too messy to take advantage. Exactly. I don't know if people who are criticizing Pie and Fuku for not running on Kendall, didn't realize this, but the ground was NOT exactly prime stolen base opportunity. That maybe one of few times in which nobody steals of Kendall. But if the ground is dry on Wednesday, i can almost guarantee you, that anybody and everybody with good speed on the club (Pie/Fuku/Theriot) will be given the green light to steal. not to mention that Soriano never got on base and Pie only got on in the 9th, where there were 2 outs
