    I mean, I guess I could have understood it had there been a runner on first and Lou wanted to stay out of the double play. But Johnson's already on second so Theriot's not going to ground into a DP. It is all about getting Johnson to third with Lee up and one out where basically any kind of contact ties up the game. Which is, in essence, playing for one run in the first inning with the top of the order up. Yep. Theriot has done this before though, I don't think its out of the question to assume he does this on his own at times.

    No kidding. Plus it's a double whammy since Lou inexplicably bumps Fukudome out of the leadoff spot when Johnson is in there. It makes no sense. Give the guy who is terrible against RH pitchers more AB's than anyone else against them. Both Bradley and Johnson have been pretty brutal against RHP this year. I can't get too upset about MB not being in there with they way he's been hitting. Not saying Johnson is the best option, but MB looks lost out there. How often has he faced RH pitchers actually hitting RHed? He's looked his worst when batting from the LH side of the plate, which the Cubs are determined to keep him doing. I think most of us here want to see if his success from the RH side of the plate against LH pitchers would perhaps carry over if he just bats RHed all the time as opposed to tossing Johnson out there against righties when he's almost a lock to be useless against them. I don't think its far to say the Cubs are determined to keep hitting LH against right-handers. How do we know that? Bradley probably hasn't batted full time as a RH in years. I don't it is the Cubs insisting on this, its just what he has done his entire career.

    It's that whole "already got him up so we have to use him" thing. partly, but more likely not enough time to get anyone else ready.

    I think it was a little too late to get anyone else warmed up. The time difference between the Lee HR and the last out was about two minutes.

    I'm actually ok with it right there. Especially with a lefty on the mound. It is recorded as a sacrifice bunt, but he looked like he was just bunting for a hit there.

    I don't mind that. He could be like Chip and think a popup is bound for Waveland. The thing that bothered me the most about Chip was that every time the opponent led off with a hit it was automatically an "inauspicious start."

    The Reds PBP guy today is a fill in. He is the regular announcer for their AAA affiliate and has been there for years. He's actually a pretty good guy, I used to work with him. The muller talk was crazy though. HR!

    I'm sure he would like to do something, but I don't really see anything out there, at least offensively, that would help. There really isn't room for anyone without moving some players with contracts that other teams are not going to want.

    You don't live in Chicago though. White Sox fans are going to be unbearable for the next month. I get that, but it is still a special baseball moment.

    I think the only deal you will see is for a LH reliever of some sort. I'm not even thinking Sherrill, probably a Joe Beimel/John Grabow type.

    You must have some amazing access to know which deals Hendry is or isn't pursuing. Its fine to criticize him if you feel it is warranted, but Hendry has proven to be aggressive in the past in making in season trades.

    On the Phillies broadcast they were discussing the fact that Ramirez has driven in 100+ runs in every year he's been with the Cubs with the exception of 2005. Sarge criticized him a bit by saying he "didn't want to play that year." He could have got to a 100 easy but didn't want to, you'd think a guy in that position would have." Wasn't that the year he was injured?

    no, first you tried to bait me into a wood versus gregg argument, then you tried to do it to soul. its pretty clear. no one is arguing about the positives of gregg - you are more or less arguing with yourself. Whatever. Several have posted about Gregg being fine, not just me. Cubs Win!

    Its not what I expect from Gregg - I would just like to have a dominating closer. Fewer walks and fewer flyballs would be a good start. He reminds me too much of Bob Howry. The Cubs don't have a guy like that now. Gregg is who they have, and he is getting the job done. Try to project out a little bit. Gregg is a 3 run jack in the playoffs just waiting to happen. He'll get owned by the better hitters in the NL, in a playoff situation, with a ton of pressure brought to bear. People are rightfully worried about his abilities. My argument is not that there aren't better closers out there than him. Sure, there are plenty. I'm just making a counter argument that he's done a solid job this year. I trust him more than Marmol at this point.

    They are expecting their closer to have much better stuff. Like Wood? Gregg has been fine this year. Like, better than Gregg. In what regard are you basing Wood's performance this year better than Gregg's?
