  1. the Yankees must come to a deal with Matsui by tuesday or he is effectively released. The Yankees would not be able to negotiate with him until May. It was part of his contract when he signed. He wanted the option to become a FA, and the Yankees agreed to it. I'd still expect him to be signed by Tuesday though.
  2. I agree with that. Just don't think the criticism on Pierre has been justified here. He's a pretty good player that could really help this team.
  3. Is it pretty much confirmed that he's get 8 million per/year? If they do trade for him i'm sure Hendry would try and lock him up like he did with Lee right after the Cubs traded for him.
  4. If my aunt had balls she's be my uncle too. I just think he'd help, I could be completely off though. This is a big if, but if the Cubs could put Pierre and Furcal back-to-back this offense could really be good. Btw Raw, IU sounded pretty good tonight in their exhibition final. Sucks that D.J. is out but I think they will be ok.
  5. Pierre is a life time 267/363 in SB for 74%. I could care less what a leadoff man's SLG is. I'd value the 200 hits/yr and OBP a lot more than his .SLG. Pierre's K/BB ratio is 211/226. While thats not HOF worthy, his speed and his ability to make contact really helps him. Anytime he makes contact on the ground he can be a threat. Pierre would be a tremendous improvemtn over anything the Cubs have had at the top of the order recently.
  6. Ok, what do you use to evaluate him? Just curious. Basically my point is he would be the best leadoff man the Cubs have had in years. Unless you really count the 40 games or so Lofton played for the Cubs in 2003. How can you not agree with hits? He's averaged 200 hits a year.
  7. Just wondering. Is he the greatest CF in the league? No. Does he have a weak arm? Yes. But, here is his seasonal averages since coming into the league: .305 Avg .355 OBP 199 hits 51 SB 100 Runs. That wouldn't help this ballclub? Those numbers were a bit lower this past season, but I expect them to go back up. Hendry is flamed for trying to trade Walker because of his OBP abilities (rightfully so) but Pierre's # are better than Walker's in that area. Why no love for Juan? Sure, Pierre isn't an OPS guy, lifetime .739. As comparison, Walker's is .789. I think Pierre would be a good addition to the top of the lineup.
  8. Will be in town that weekend, but would only be able to attend Sat & Sun. I saw that the passes are $50, is it worth it for the two days?
  9. When does this thing air?
  10. I personally cannot deal with having Neifi as the starter. I dont care who we sign or trade for having Perez here and starting when last year we had options like Nomar, Walker, and Cedeno is a bad idea. When did Neifi ever start over Nomar and Walker? (Besides when they were injured)
  11. Is it really over reacting to a pattern that repeats itself? I agree with you that it's only November but Hendry is continuing to do things the same way he always has and is expecting different results. What moves can he make yet? He can't sign any free agents other than his own. Rusch was retained because of the gazillion pitching injuries they have endured over the past two seasons. Rusch has been yoyo'ed (even a word?) between the rotation and relief. I think he's done a decent job despite that. I assumed he would be back from the start. Hendry obviously feels he is valuable asset to have, considering someone probbaly will go down this year on the staff. Perez, same way. He is a good backup. I agree that Baker favors veterans, but early in the year what choice did he have but to play Neifi? I'm with you, I don't really want Perez to be starting next year any more than you do. But I'm not going to burn Hendry in flames before he has a chance to put together a whole team. Thats what I'm trying to get across. I want to see the whole picture, not just the minor pieces.
  12. Waaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!! This board is getting out of hand. There's more whining going on in here than Matt Morris and Jim Edmonds deciding which is the greatest boy band of all time, NSYNC or Backstreet Boys. Give it a rest already. Neifi is back, deal with it. Its November freakin 8th. I'll judge this team in March, not November. Contray to the popular opinion, Neifi isn't worthless. Does he have weaknesses, of course. But lets not get carried away here. Nobody has any idea what the plans are for this organization. And everybody here thinks they have all the answers and know better than those in charge. Again, its Nov 8th. If Hendry and company fail to improve this team and they have another season like last year than I agree a change my be in order. I don't blame Hendry for Nomar ripping his groin, Prior's heel/elbow, Wood's latest injury of the month. See what they put together before you rip it to shreds. Its November people...
  13. Ahhhh..a genuine "game-used" authentic signed toilet seat from the Cubs clubhouse. Hopefully leftover from the Hector Villanueva days... Quick story, Hector was signed by the Cardinals and I was in Spring Training with my Grandfather who was, and still (part-time) a photographer for SI, Baseball America, etc. We were at the Cardinals complex and I walked into the bathroom and smelled the worst smell of my life. The bathroom stall opens and out comes Hector. He gave me a "Hey man" and gave me a high five. All of this before he made it to the sink to wash his hands. Oh, the memories :)
  14. So that (very) roughly translates into 34 homeruns in a full season away from PETCO. What's the problem? I think he means he only hit 17 total HR's, even with 81 games on the road.
  15. I don't think Gammons is really that bad. I listen to what he has to say when it comes to FA signings more than I do trades. Maybe its just me, but he does usually have a good handle on the FA market. He mentioned that there is a ton of money out on the market this year, and a down crop of players. Thought earlier in the year B.J. Ryan could get 6Mil/per year. Now he thinks he will get a tleast 8Mil/per year.
  16. Bump! Just heard Gammons on the Dan Parick Show with more FA signing predictions. Here is what I remember: Furcal--> Cubs Giles--> Cubs "the early leader for his services" B.J. Ryan--> Mets or possibly Boston or Detroit Damon--> Boston Bernie Williams--> DH for Texas Konerko--> White Sox "Wouldn't surprise me to see them trade Garcia and have Mccarthy takes his spot. Nomar--> Open to position change (i.e. outfield) Dodgers interested, no mention of Cubs. Wagner--> Philly Sosa--> Whoever gives him a 1/yr 5-6Million first Palmeiro--> Retirement
  17. Congrats to the Sox. If the Cubs don't make it I really don't care who wins it. Maybe the White Sox winning this thing will motivate the Cubs Organization to make the necessary moves to get them in the same position. You really think there were no bandwagon jumper in 2003? Thats what I hated most about that year. People insinuating that I was a bandwagon jumper for the Cubs. The Sox won it, the Cubs didn't. Good for them.
  18. http://journals.aol.com/dcsportsguy/mrirrelevant/entries/2162 Don't know much about this site, but it looks like Will Carroll is his source.
  19. Aardsma... He's had a less than stellar AFL to say the least. Starting to wonder what his future may hold.
  20. http://www.kmov.com/perl/common/video/wmPlayer.pl?title=www.kmov.com/051020_sadfans.wmv I'm at a loss for words...
  21. Todd Helton "the Fake slugger".
  22. Yeah, he struck out THE ADMIRAL good. Sorry. Still can't get past this FSN Arizona broadcast/broadcasters. You do know why he's call the Admiral don't you? There is a reason behind it.
  23. Most regional broadcasters are homers. I don't really mind Brenneman. Grace can be amusing at least.
  24. Induct Chad Tracy into the all-time Cub Killer club...
  25. perfect example of why it kills me when people arge that a strikeout is "just another out", its not. If Hollandsworth puts the ball in play, chances are good the run will score. I know Burnitz didn't test it with one out on Ramirez fly ball. But with one down maybe he goes. A ground ball to SS or 2b would score him too. Strikeouts suck!
