Many of the pros who make their living scouting and publishing their reports didn't think he was the 13th best player available. It's great that you choose to have full faith and confidence in the Cubs front office and the Cubs player development system. Not everyone chooses to share that confidence ... which is their perogative. Surprisingly, not everyone on the internet agrees with each other on everything. Don't confuse my remarks to mean I have full faith in the Cubs organization, I don't. My only point is I think it is a little too early to start the comments like, "He'll fit right in, etc." The kid hasn't even signed and he's getting criticized. Welcome to the organization Tyler! GIve the kid a break. Not his fault the Cubs picked him so high. I'm sure no one was being the least bit sarcastic when making those remarks either. As we all know, everything everyone posts on a message board is meant to be 100% serious and taken literally. I know that, this isn't my first day on the internet. I just thought the critical comments are a little unnecessary, moreso in the draft threads. The constant sarcasm too gets a little old in parts. Just my .02 cents, toally fine to disagree. I don't know what kind of player he is going to be, but I'll give him some time before I write it off as a wasted draft choice.

I see all the amateur NSBB scouts have doomed the kid already, until he hits a GS, then he's great. Give the kid a chance. I know it was a reach, but the sarcastic comments get a little old after a while. The guy was drafted 3 days ago and he's already been roasted quite a bit.

So we really just spend a draft pick on a guy who openly hates the Cubs and who very well might not even play baseball? Yeah...new guy seems to fit right in with our management philosophy. I hate the Cardinals, but they would instantly become my favorite team if they drafted me. Know what I mean?

I think they are worth a little more than B level prospects, but their value is obviously nowhere near where it could have been. Neither one has some the ability to stay healthy. I know Prior has had some freak injuries, but the mystery around his latest injury has to cause some concern. Just from reading Will Carroll, he's not too optimistic on Prior, based on what he is hearing. He caught a lot of heat form his report about him being injured in ST, but turns out he was right. For any of them to increase their value they will have to come back and prove to be healthy. And if they do, the Cubs would probably better off to hold onto them.

Reds fan, right? I agree; this would help both teams. Denorfia could platoon with either Pierre or Jones. Or both, on alternating days. I'd love to see him finally get a shot. Maybe they'd throw in Cody Ross. Nope, Cubs fan, always. Just get to see a lot of the Reds organization, and I really like Denorfia.

Trade Williamson to Cincinnati for AAA outfielder Chris Denorfia. Denorfia is a good prospect and might be an ambitious return for Williamson. Williamson could step into the closer's role for the Reds. I really like Denorfia. Just thinking out loud....

Because he has a 3 year contract...he's underperforming, as is Pierre. Pierre has gotten plenty of criticism. Aramis has a history of performing well, so he's gotten a bit more slack. And Murton is essentially a rookie...an uneven season was expected. I've never understood this, JJ didin't put a gun to Hendry's head. He was given a 3 year deal, no idea how, but he got it. So Jacque is pretty much putting up numbers that he usually does. Blame Hendry. JJ is just doing what he has always done.

Again, just because he isn't THE problem doesn't mean he isn't a problem. Jones's OBP is .321. That's bad. He is a problem. Quit sugar coating it and pretending he's isn't a problem. Sugarcoating? ok... All I did was show the numbers. The outfiled has been terrible. Jones has been the most productive OF though. It's not sugarcoating, its fact. Again, I didn't want him either, I'd be more than happy with someone else in RF. But he's been better than Murton and Pierre, but thats not saying very much. You didn't show the numbers, you showed part of the numbers that made him look the best. For the season, he has a .321 OBP. OBP is more important than SLG. OBP is the Cubs main offensive problem. Jacque Jones has a bad OBP. Jacque Jones is part of the problem. That is all that needs to be said. So is Matt Murton, Juan Pierre, Aramis Ramirez, on and on and on. Why single out Jones? Everyone has pretty much been terrible. I'm not arguing that OBP isn't a problem. But it is a team problem with the exception of a few guys, not just a Jacque Jones problem. I chose to show Jones' number for May because that just happens to coincide with when the Cubs went into the crapper. This month Jones has been pretty much the only consistent hitter on the team. The team is dreadful all around.

Why do people try to pretend you can defend any player by saying he is not the problem? Jones is a major part of the problem. His .321 OBP from a corner OF position is a problem. Cubs opponents have an OBP of .338. Jones is therefore worse than the Cubs average opponent at getting on base. There are only 2 teams in the NL with a worse OBP than Jacque Jones, Pittsburgh and the Cubs. Every other team has a higher team OBP. When your corner OF has a worse OBP than the rest of the teams in the league, you are getting poor production from that player. A couple homeruns doesn't change that. OBP is the problem with this team, and Jacque is a major part of that problem. I'm not pretending, I didn't want Jones either. In the month of May, a month in which the Cubs have gone 5-16, this has been Jones' line: .313/.353/.500/.853 Thats respectable. He's hardly the reason the Cubs have been absolutely awful this month. In fact, he is pretty much the only guy that has been consistently hitting the ball. OBP is a glaring problem, but all doesn't fall on JJ.

Most definitely. Off the top of my head: Milton Bradley Coco Crisp Gary Matthews Jr. David Dellucci Brian Giles Gary Matthews Jr? He's improved his game since he left Chicago, but I think Jones is the better player. I don't think many would be happy if Hendry would have signed GMjr to be the everyday RF. Jacque Jones is hardly the problem with this year's team anyway. No argument with Giles, Crisp, or Milton.

Faced Hamels in Spring Training a couple years ago. My college team always went down to play the Phillies a couple games each Spring. I'm a left-handed hitter so facing him was a real treat. Faced hime twice, can say he didn't strike me out, but I didn't get a hit either. Grounded out to second and flew out to center.

Hahaha...Wow. Judging by that rationale Zambrano should be committed. For being intense on the field? I wish more players were that competitive. I'm not knocking Zambrano's intensity. I don't like it when Zambrano shows up his teammates, which has done on a few occasions the past few years. Those times when Z would jump and down and glare at a teammate who just made an error are what I'm talking about. Its not secret he rubbed some guys the wrong way with that kind of show. That being said, I love the guy. he does have to watch that though. As for your comments on Neifi, find a baseball player who doesn't have an inflated senese of self worth, especially one who has been playing as long as Neifi has.

Everyone calm down. I'm not particularly fond of LaRussa either, but he's doing his job. I odn't think Maddux was doing anything, but if LaRussa wants to have the ball checked, no big deal to me. Somebody brought up Penny, I watched him the other night. During my college days it was pretty easy to take the mound with a freshly hair gelled head. Once you get out there and work up a sweat all you have to do is take your hat off and rub your hands through the back of your head. I tried it a few times and didn't like it. Other guys would swear by it. It is all part of the game.

I must have missed the memo that DB was now the GM. DB didn't acquire Bynum, Hendry did.

Can't see this one happening. I know Pittsburgh is pretty bad right now, but I don't see them trading Wilson within the division, especially to the Cubs.

Agreed. But how about is air mail throw? Yikes. Routine plays seem to give him the most trouble.

What would you rather see with the players we have available? Jones and Aramis are not able to play at present. Barrett should be starting, and maybe Walker. Without either of them, and with Ramirez and Jones out, the lineup is pretty weak. Mabry at third would be nice. Not sure how Mabry does against lefties, but I don't have a problem loading up the line up with RH hitters against a LH starter. Which is why I wouldn't mind seeing Barrett over at 3b. Barrett would probably make Edwin Encarnacion look like a gold glover. I know Barrett has played some 3rd before, but I don't think you just throw him out there when he hasn't played or practiced there in who knows how long. Barrett has been hot and I wish he was in there too. But he's not going to catch all 162. I think everyone can exect Blanco to get one start a week.

Jones is 0- for the season. He could hit 9th and still have pressure. I don't think it makes a difference if he hits 5th or 7th or 8th. He is going to feel the pressure until he gets his first hit.

He is only among the worst hitters in all of major league baseball since 1900. THAT IS BAD. Today he got a bloop single on a ball that was a six inches of the ground and a lucky hop that golden boy Pujols should have stabbed. Neifi sucks, he should never start. Ever. I'd like to see you manage a team and find a way to never start him. Every position player on the 25 man will start at least a handful of games during a 162 game season.
