  1. If the Bulls don't get someone big (LeBron, Bosh, etc.) I don't know how I can watch them with no knowledge that they'll sniff a title for a while (unless they sign Carmelo next year).
  2. We're a half a game better then the Royals. That's exciting.
  3. I'd feel pretty confident in saying that would be the best team ever. If that team wanted to they may be able to go 82-0. (That may be an exaggeration but I can't think of any time that a team would have had that much talent.)
  4. I've heard the Bosh to Miami rumors and now I'm hearing that Johnson may go to the Knicks.
  5. I'm ok with this Cubs season if the LeBron/Bosh deal actually happens.
  6. Do soccer refs always suck as bad as they've seemed to in this World Cup?
  7. Crappy Cubs usually leads way to some awesome off the field moments.
  8. The sport that it seems closest to is college football with every club league acting as a conference.
  9. I've always loved watching World Cup soccer since we hosted in 94. It is even more fun to watch when you have a rooting interest, I couldn't watch the end today but I watched the first half and I was pissed about the offsides call today. I would love to watch more of the sport (I catch games when they were on but have never looked at a schedule or anything to see when matches are on). I would love to find a way to have a rooting interest outside of the World Cup and the few qualifiers i've seen. It's hard for me to figure out how to do this with the structure of the club leagues and what not.
  10. FIFA has no desire to see the US care about soccer apparently.
  11. Kerry Wood's breaking pitches before his arm fell off. I've never seen someone turn a baseball into a whiffle ball like he could.
  12. The off-season goes by fast when you win the cup.
  13. The only thing that makes a bit of sense about "the Cubs will blow it because they are the Cubs" thing is that they probably do feel increased pressure to win one so people who feel they won't see one in their life do. They are aware of the culture surrounding the Cubs, on the flip side, when you get close to the World Series, you are close to reaching a dream you've most likely held sense child hood so you will be feeling crap loads of pressure regardless. I understand the "we'll never see it in our life time" sentiment. I don't buy it necessarily but I understand it. It's hard enough just to make the playoffs in baseball so there are limited opportunities just to get there, the Cubs have a better chance then most because they have more money then a lot of teams (I'm pretty grateful to have seen quite a few playoff appearances and some close calls, Pirates or Royals fans would kill to have just one playoff birth at this point), but anyways, when it's so hard just to get into position to win it and you come so close (2003) it's hard to be optimistic that you will get that chance again.
  14. Two years in a row with a Blackhawk. (Kane was on the cover last year)
  15. Cole is living up to his hype vs TCU. His fastball is fun to watch.
  16. I'm looking forward to this series. It's fun to watch the Cubs play in some different parks.
  17. Is Aramis going to be with Iowa then or will he be done? The Quad Cities paper (team who played Peoria during his rehab) made it sound like he was joining the Cubs but he can't come off the DL for a couple more days can he?
  18. Byrd, Silva, Marmol, Soriano. Thats 4 what do I win? Nothing. Failure to follow simple instructions... Name one. Of your list, Soriano is overpaid and struggled so much last year, I don't think he could step up and lead.... Silva and Byrd aren't real veterans of this club. I also dunno if they are leaders.... Marmol is in the pen and not likely in much of a position to lead. \Baseball is pretty much an individual sport (offensively and on the pitcher mound, for the most part, at least) why do we need club house leaders in the first place and if we actually do need leaders what does it mean to be one? I don't see why having a club house "leader" means much and if it does I imagine it would be old guys who are good baseball players. That's what old guys who used to play the game pretty much tell me anyways. I'd say all the previously mentioned players are old guys who are playing well (not that I care about having a club house "leader").
  19. When was the last time Lou seemed "all that happy" to you ?? During batting practice before game 1 of the 08 NLDS? It's kind of weird to see yet another well regarded manager limp his way to the conclusion of his contract after all the fanfare that was had when they began their Cubs career. Each one promised they were going to do good things and take the Cubs to a World Series. They all professed that they did not feel like the Cubs were cursed or that there was any difference between this club and the other 29 teams. I'm not saying there is, but its strangely fascinating to see the life slowly being kicked out of these guys. Baylor and Baker looked depressed and overwhelmed during the end of their tenures, while Lou is somewhere in la la land and seems like he can't come to grips with how things have turned out in his tenure with the team. I kind of want the next manager to be a nobody at least in the minds of the casual Cubs fan. I am sick of the fanfare surrounding our manager, but I think the powers that be want a manager they can market. I want a boring ass manager that is never the star of the show. I just want a GM who knows what they're doing and can ignore the manager when necessary. What you're describing ironically happened in no small part to Hendry letting himself be lead around by Dusty and Lou and their dumb ass ideas as to how a team should be built. I basically want a GM who knows what they are doing and a manager who won't mess it up.
  20. I'll always remember him for his professional ice hockey career.
  21. Went to the game in Peoria. Aramis didn't do much but I didn't take too much from it because he was swinging for the fences every time he swung the bat. It was the first time I've seen a Major Leaguer in a rehab start so seeing Ramirez in a single A team's uniform was strange.
  22. Anyway this line up can score 4 runs today?
  23. Castro has been pretty poor as of late as well. I don't think Weaver is going to fear our last 5 hitters today.
