  1. I see no reason getting too upset about this trade at all unless it comes out that we could have gotten someone else from another team who is better (we probably won't ever know if this is the case). We may get lucky with one of two prospects who aren't hightly touted and haven't performed well and if we don't so what? We were losing Koskue anyways unless he signs a new contract, something that could be done anyways.
  2. Really? In that picture it looks to me like the front part of the glove is in front, but the back part lags behind the leg. Which means the glove is on the leg. I don't know, it looks pretty conclusive to me. I don't really care though. I've given up on replay in MLB, until the Yankees are screwed again. Then suddenly the league will be magically open to talking about it again. Even so, replay wouldn't show this as it most likely wouldn't be a still shot but a video so I still feel that it would be tough to over rule in this instance based upon the angles that have been shown. MLB should have replay though and it is annoying that they keep saying that "it will take a call similar to this one in a playoff game before something is done." Why the hell not just institute it now and prevent that terrible screw job from happening? There isn't any reason not too. I understand that Selig is concerned about the length of games but I'm pretty sure that most plays (unlike a play like this) are conclusive enough to determine rather quickly if he was out or safe plus I'm sure the fans are more concerned with having the game called more correctly then adding 5 extra minutes to a game.
  3. I explained why in the other games thread but that photo doesn't really prove anything to me. My guess is he probably tagged him but as I still think the video evidence is inconclusive and the ump really is getting some undeserved grief. It didn't help thought that he, himself said something to the effect that he probably got his leg.
  4. ESPN is talking about this call like it's the worst call in the history of baseball and I'm still not sure he even tagged him. The fact that there is some question in my mind, makes it so this call isn't that big of a deal.
  5. Meh, I was being a tad hyperbolic because I didn't want to be too overt in making fun of our rivals when we are awful and I said most likely stupid because I was trying to avoid being too absolute on an unknown (Rasmus', or any other players, future). It may not have been my finest post ever but it happens from time to time.
  6. I'm still shocked that the White Sox decided to let Toronto get Rasmus as opposed to them getting him themselves. It's nice to watch our rivals do something most likely dumb for once.
  7. It sure looks like it here http://i.imgur.com/JiMyv.jpg I don't see much from that picture either that says either way as it looks like the glove may be in front of the runner's leg creating the illusion that it is touching. I do think it's too conclusive either and if they go with the "it must be conclusive" thing that other sports with replay use than I don't think the call would be overturned.
  8. I don't really see an issue, erik said that "It's time to defend the title" pretty much at the same time the lockout ended. A, I'm sure he had different reasons for saying it, the obvious being that he was exciting to watch the team try to defend the title . I'm also sure he meant it as a bit of trolling too but whatever, he went back in forth with Bears fans last year a few times and although he did it terribly he did take a lot of crap for it (not saying it was all undeserved) so he through a little shot in there. As long is it stays to a comment that would probably appear on every message board after their team wins a championship at the start of the year who really cares. Everything else was said in retaliation to UMFan's remark (which was done jokingly in my eyes but it was still said so people are going to make some kind of a comeback). I guess I just don't see the point of the "I'm a better sports fan" then you stuff in this situation.
  9. The Packers lucked into the playoffs, there is no doubt about that because they wouldn't have made it if the Lions didn't beat the Buccanears and then if Desean Jackson doesn't have his miracle return then the Packers don't make the playoff but it takes a hell of a lot of talent to go on the road and win three playoff games and then beat a very good Steelers team in the Super Bowl. I very happy the Packers won the Super Bowl and I am glad that they have bragging rights from the NFC title game as well but all that's in the past and I'm just happy that we don't have to miss a season of football. I just wish the NBA could salvage their season too.
  10. Why does it say parental guidance in the upper right hand corner?
  11. I don't see the point in getting upset over a silly song. Baseball is fun, regardless on if the Cubs are bad or not, I say just enjoy a win however you want, even if it only puts the Cubs to 19 games under .500 .
  12. Hopefully you guys and some of the numbers are correct and they are a fluke then. They give me something to follow while the Cubs are terrible for a year (hopefully) but won't develop into much of a threat when/if the Cubs become good again.
  13. I think he sounded somewhat similar to Len actually.
  14. The Pirates are now tied for first and it's the middle of July. I hope they keep it up.
  15. This is said every time there is a free agent on the market. My opinion is, that as a large market team it's a risk that you have to take. You can build your minor leagues but no one knows what any of those players will be like 6 years from now (obviously I want the Cubs to build this as well but when you have the resources a team should be built with multiple strategies in mind obviously), either.
  16. I suspect his next blown save will be met with a standing ovation and polite applause because he tried hard.
  17. Something has to be going on because I have never seen people make contact on Marmol's slider as much as they have this year.
  18. I really don't want Marmol to fall apart mentally.
  19. Did Hitler and his brother play fantasy football too?
  20. Lots of people love Juan Pierre too although he is more of an exception when it comes to that type of player being popular as a minority. I have never heard of a player like Jose Macias or Neifi Perez or whomever you can think of, become a fan favorite. I think the racism comes into play in this realm, shitty white players get away with being popular because people think they play hard and for what ever reason people of other skin color do not. I don't think that's a Wrigley thing though, that's a sports fan thing for some reason.
  21. wut? When Quade finally pulled Wood he barely got a smattering of boos, despite reloading the bases and giving up 2 more runs himself. There's a pretty clear distinction between who gets really booed at Wrigley and who doesn't. [expletive] white players rarely get anything close to what the non-white ones get when they [expletive] up. Regardless of skin color, Kerry Wood has given Cubs fans a lot more reasons to unconditionally love him. I don't know if I can get on this bandwagon either. Wood is a fan favorite for obvious reasons other than skin color and I'd say there have been plenty of white players who have been booed pretty strongly. Todd Hundley and Joe Borowski come to mind, plus a lot of meat ball Cubs fans still vilify Mark Prior for some reason, but I'm sure there are others. I'd say the Wrigley crowd targets high profile and high salary players who underachieve and it just so happens that a lot of those players are minorities.
  22. To state something that applies more directly to the original topic. I probably say this in every managerial thread but baseball manager is the most over rated position in sports thus I don't really care who has the job that much.
  23. How have I never known that Danny Ainge played baseball?
  24. That would be much worse. When you make millions of dollars to win for a specific team I just don't see how there is much motivation to win for a team that doesn't pay you millions. Plus there are other reasons to not take it too seriously, like, it's a fun game that players shouldn't have to take seriously because it is an exhibition. They really should just take away the home field advantage thing and let it be a fun baseball game for God's sake.
  25. The way I see it is there is a way to argue the relevancy of bunting (dew and Rob are doing a good job of this) and there's a way to not do it. Saying that the best hitter in the game knew how to bunt, when there was no reason that he would ever need to use it, just isn't the best way.
