  1. Adrian Peterson is a lot more fun to watch when pulling for the Vikings.
  2. Honestly I don't remember expectations for that 2003 team being all that high beyond the fact that they had Prior & Wood...when they even made the playoffs, I was pleasantly surprised. That is why I guess the meltdown against Florida never bothered me that much...I'll always be far more depressed by the 2008 team melting down against LA. I thought they were considered one of the up and coming teams. I remember ESPN saying things like "they could compete this year but they are probably a year or two away". At least that is what I remember, I could be way off.
  3. Or not....
  4. LSU/West Virginia is getting interesting.
  5. He didn't go complaining to the media. $100 says he was asked something along the lines of "so what do you think of batting so low in the lineup this year?" Soriano then responds with his limited grasp of english and essentially says "I'll hit where they want me to hit, but I don't like being bounced around the lineup as often as I have been this year." What's wrong with that? It's not like we haven't been griping about Quade's crappy lineup management all season long. I didn't say he went complaining to the media. I said it is selfish to complain to the media about it, whether they were seeking him out or not. It's baseball. Hit the ball no matter where you are! If you are Soriano you are going to take the same approach no matter what slot you are hitting in. He has had the same approach whether he has hit leadoff, third, sixth, or wherever since he has been with the team. I've had enough of the Ramirez and Soriano show. Send them somewhere else. They haven't won and titles or created a winning atmosphere in the clubhouse anyway. Good riddance! I wonder how anyone can read this message board and then be the type of person who says stuff like "winning clubhouse" and then think that this is the message board for them. It's pretty clear that kind of thinking (intangibles and what not) is pretty much shunned here.
  6. I just see an older player trying to deal with the fact that he's not as good as he once was (although he's far from a terrible player even though he is declining.). I don't see the point in spewing venom at him, especially when, as others have said, he is just answering the questions put forth too him.
  7. Frustrating but the plus is a lot still has to happen for the Cards to make the playoffs.
  8. I think this was brought up last time discussion about playoff expansion happened but I like this because more playoff teams means the Cubs have a greater chance to make the playoffs.
  9. I liked your original idea of letting it go. Why? Because it's just some silly fan thing that most of us Bear fans say, simply because it seems like there's some weird correlation. I can't imagine any of us really believe players are sitting around waiting for news headlines to become motivated. Fair enough, and I get that not all Bears fans believe this and this isn't really some thing against Bears fans (I don't hate Bears fans at all, not fond of the team but I don't hate the fans, because they share my favorite team in most other sports). It's more against the notion of Bulletin Board material period when there are plenty of other things to motivate an athlete, especially in a game like football where not trying can get you seriously injured. Mostly a pet peeve of mine got triggered and I felt the urge to post about it. Combine that with booze because of college football and I get pissy.
  10. I liked your original idea of letting it go. Why?
  11. I just think that it's dumb to think a player plays harder (or at least in an impactful way) because some guy who works for a newspaper says their team will lose. But I guess since I cheer for the Packers that's a dumb point.
  12. C'mon man, I made a comment about Urlacher last week that you and other people gave me [expletive] for because of the obviousness of the comment and I didn't come back and whine about it. If you are really that concerned about people saying something about a comment you made then don't say it, not too mention you (or at least other Bears fans) have contended more than once that the Bears use bulletin board material to their advantage in the past so it's not like it's some throw away comment, it's a belief and argument you have laid out before but if it's that big of a deal I'll just let it go.
  13. "I wasn't motivated to play an NFL game against the defending champion and our arch rivals and a team that we will compete against for the division championship until Bill Simmons said we suck." I said more locker room fodder as in more motivation, never implying that there wasn't motivation to begin with. Which means what exactly? Whatever you want it to mean. Stop looking for an argument. I'm discussing a [expletive] football game in a football game thread. You brought up the point that locker room fodder means something I said it doesn't. What do you think a message board is for? Throwing out comments in hopes that no one notices and doesn't contend your point?

  16. It's pretty fun watching Campana run the bases. Too bad he swings the bat like a 6 year old.
  17. I'm glad Wrigley's food isn't great to begin with.
  18. The Best Fans In Baseball seem pretty dead considering their team is trying to make the playoffs and are playing their arch rivals.
  19. I liked their old logo and I hope they go back to it.
  20. Castro now has 200 hits for the season.
  21. I'm really excited for this series. First we end their season and then we sign Pujols and then the fate of each franchise changes for ever. Then again, maybe I'm getting a little too far ahead of myself.
  22. Looks like he had a good year in 1998, granted, I'm sure there were a lot of people OPSing in the 800s during that era but still, I didn't realize that he was pretty good for the Cubs that year.
  23. No, it isn't. Softball won the conference just this past year and in 1997. And won the conference tournament in 09 and 97. And men's hoops won the tournament a few years back. That might be it though in the Big 12. Conference tournament wins are not winning the conference. C'mon, dude. That's why I specified who won what. I don't consider them the same thing, but teams still get trophies and call themselves "conference champs" when they won the tournaments. Only when those teams never actually win conferences. See: Iowa. A shot at Iowa basketball? That's kind of weak.
  24. The season I became a Cubs fan.
