The Marlins' rotation depth in the minors is DEEP. Lot of interesting SP prospects especially at the top of the minors. I never expected they'd want pitchers in this deal.
I'm pleasantly surprised if that's all it takes. Losing Caissie stings but you have to do it. I like Hernandez but the jury is still out on him and he's a bit of a gamble.
I'm just catching up on this. Finally getting a guy. Definitely a risk but he is something we needed.
If Caissie is in the deal does that mean Mo is the DH and Seiya is in RF and Alcantara is the 4th OF? Would be nice if we went and added a bat too.
Fwiw, it seems Buster Olney went on a podcast and said the Red Sox made an offer to Bregman and he thinks they work out a deal. So it would back up the above report.
Yeah fwiw I just eyed Sanoja as an extra piece if we wanna kill two birds with one stone and have noted that the ask on starting pitchers has been insanely high. I would rather NOT trade both Shaw and Alcantara in a deal like that but sometimes you have to bite the bullet.
I have had in my head signing Bregman or Bichette and trading Shaw for a SP.
Is something like Shaw and Alcantara for Edward Cabrera and Javier Sanoja feasible? Get the guy we've been looking at for the rotation and Sanoja is a controllable utility guy coming off a gold glove win. Not the greatest hitter but has pop and can play anywhere. Basically what we wanted Berti to be.
The Marlins have a lot of prospect pitching depth in the upper minors so I don't imagine they'd want Wicks or Brown.
Yeah knowing this front office and the resources, it's one or the other. Not both Imai and Cabrera. I'm guessing that Jed really likes Bregman and is now just working to see what can get done while waiting on Imai.
Heck yeah. This is a fun low-risk signing. If he's healthy he's gonna be a solid late-inning option. Pen is basically set now. Last spot or two will be a spring training battle.
Watching Fairbanks go to the Marlins is doubly frustrating. They're not contending AND it's a one year deal to a high end reliever. Something Jed prefers. How does this happen?
Webb is a decent middle reliever, it's a cheap deal and we basically needed to rebuild the pen so I don't dislike it in a vacuum but you pair it with the lack of notable signings and it's disappointing/frustrating.
That is a HAUL for Baz, who has a lot of upside and team control but hasn't put it together.
And that is a fun 3-team trade. I kinda love it for the Pirates. Mason Montgomery could be elite and Lowe gives their lineup a little thump for a year. Good for them!
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ok!
He's been in Japan for 6 seasons and had a .945 OPS over there. So he's gonna be backup 1B and maybe OF but really just be a lefty masher off the bench for cheap. It's fine I guess.
This feels like a scenario where at some point he will announce it himself on social media or we're gonna have a report bomb from Passan or Rosenthal (if it's Boob Nightengale we can ignore),
I have to assume this is due diligence and nothing of substance actually is happening here. Giants want a 2B, call up Hoyer and see what it would take. The end.
