  1. Yanks really trying to avoid spending money aside from possibly Cody Bellinger.
  2. That's a thought, but Dean has 3 options left and I'm not sure he makes for a great 4th OFer. If we don't sign anyone of note, and he survives the rest of the winter on the roster, I'm sure he'll get every chance in ST to win a bench spot.
  3. 29 year old speedy outfielder. Hopefully that is the last Cubs-Giants transaction of the offseason.
  4. I don't know if it was mentioned here yet but Fangraphs did a write-up of the Bregman deal and included a shout out to NSBB and Matt Trueblood. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/cubs-land-alex-bregman-on-five-year-deal/
  5. The Dbacks are paying just 11 mil of the 42 he's still owed. And gave up their 8th rounder from last year. So it's basically a low risk pick up for them and the Cardinals begging to be rid of the contract.
  6. This is my feeling exactly. Keeps everyone fresh and eases Steele back into it. In the second half when everyone looked gassed last year, this feels like a no brainer.
  7. The Giants don't have a great farm system and no one on their MLB roster I'd want in a deal who would actually be available. I'm hoping this is just a "the Giants called, the Cubs said what it would take, the end" kind of thing.
  8. Well yes but Tucker will also probably want at least 8 years and 300 mil. Clearly we're not comfortable at that length.
  9. Hot damn. I'm thrilled about landing a big FA and 5 years is decent. The AAV is a bit insane but money is coming off the books next year. So that basically solidifies Shaw as the utility infielder, Mo as the DH and Alcantara as the 4th OF unless they have another surprise lined up.
  10. Kepler was a FA anyway and was not good last year. The Phillies have two options if they sign Bichette: Bichette, Turner, Stott trade off between 2B, 3B and SS and the Phillies trade Bohm for a catcher. or Bichette takes over SS and Turner goes into LF, with Adolis Garcia in RF and Marsh/Justin Crawford getting CF. The Phillies may need to trade Bohm anyway and they are not going into next year with Marchan/Stubbs as the catchers. It's also no secret Castellanos has played his last game with them. I'm sure they're trying to trade him before outright releasing him. I could see the Reds interested in brining him back since their OF is bleak.
  11. It's not a lot of room but it's something. Rea did the job last year but he and a healthy Assad are redundant. Especially with Brown, Wicks, Wiggins, etc back there and Steele coming back, there's not really room for both and our depth is decent.
  12. Yeah, as someone who also follows the Phillies, it's a big pain point for the fanbase. Their front office seems content to let Marsh and Adolis Garcia get a hefty amount of at bats and Justin Crawford get a crack at CF. They still need to unload Castellanos and bring in a catcher. I suppose the thinking there could be they sign Bichette and move Turner to the outfield. Or they sign him and trade Bohm for a catcher, since it's unlikely they'd have money for both Realmuto and Bichette.
  13. I get your point but that absolutely does not get you Skenes.
  14. Mariners signed Patrick Wisdom to a MiLB deal. He cranked 35 HR in the KBO last year.
  15. Now my preference is Bichette to play 3B. Shaw can be the super sub to play all over the infield. I honestly like the idea of Alcantara being the 4th OF but it would be nice to have more depth. Also the lineup in Iowa is bleak right now so I assume we will have some more depth signings soon.
  16. The Marlins' rotation depth in the minors is DEEP. Lot of interesting SP prospects especially at the top of the minors. I never expected they'd want pitchers in this deal.
  17. I'm pleasantly surprised if that's all it takes. Losing Caissie stings but you have to do it. I like Hernandez but the jury is still out on him and he's a bit of a gamble.
  18. Yeah I'm gonna wait for someone other than Boob. Also everyone is assuming that's the Case(sie)
  19. I'm just catching up on this. Finally getting a guy. Definitely a risk but he is something we needed. If Caissie is in the deal does that mean Mo is the DH and Seiya is in RF and Alcantara is the 4th OF? Would be nice if we went and added a bat too.
  20. Fwiw, it seems Buster Olney went on a podcast and said the Red Sox made an offer to Bregman and he thinks they work out a deal. So it would back up the above report.
  21. If that's a legit offer then this one is over.
  22. Yeah fwiw I just eyed Sanoja as an extra piece if we wanna kill two birds with one stone and have noted that the ask on starting pitchers has been insanely high. I would rather NOT trade both Shaw and Alcantara in a deal like that but sometimes you have to bite the bullet.
