I mean, they can "like" or "ask" whatever they want. And Tucker is one of the best OF in the game. But the Soto deal last offseason was a good, young starting pitcher and some good but not elite prospects (you could argue Higashioka for Grisham was a wash). So something like Paredes and/or Seiya and Horton and Caissie along with a lesser prospect or two should get it done.
Workman was a top 30 prospect in the Detroit system by Pipeline and FG. Solid defender who has played 3B, SS and 2B. Good power and speed combo. If he can cut down on K's there's something good there. I dig it as a Rule 5 gamble, especially given what our current bench looks like. I'm choosing to take it at face level and not wrap it into any other rumors.
Did the Ramgers really just trade Maximo Acosta and two other interesting prospects for the Marlins' Patrick Wisdom? I know Acosta's star has faded but that seems like a lot.
I wanted Fried but it's clear we were never involved. Ok let's keep the deals going, Winter Meetings.
Yankees rotation is now: Cole, Fried, Rodon, Gil, Stroman, Cortes, Schmidt. Someone's gonna be on the move from there, right?
I mean do you remember from what news source? As someone who worked in the industry, there are often pre written articles in case something goes down so maybe it was accidentally published. Or someone just posting some made up garbage and it was lost in the algorithm.
Madden has little social following but he's a long time and well respected NY sports media member. Worked for the Daily News for like 3 decades and written several Yankees and Mets books.
Orioles replace Santander with Tyler O'Neill, 3 year contract. Similar to Santander but a better fielder. Nice fit there.
The market is moving quickly with the Winter Meetings starting.
Maybe it's prospect hogging but I do like Birdsell quite a bit and would be bummed about trading him. And same goes for Wicks. His numbers last year weren't great but he was worse down the stretch after an IL stint. Maybe something was just off all year. I still like his outcome as a No. 3-4 starter in the near future, which is quite valuable.
That's too much to surrender in both deals, especially if we're taking Garver's contract (though Thaiss and Murray have no value), and also I don't think Woo's family is Japanese?
I said in another thread this is a bummer, as I really wanted Higashioka or Jansen. There are some other options out there but kinda meh. Now I'm thinking Carson Kelly is going elsewhere. I really want to believe Thaiss was just a safeguard in case the catching market didn't shape up well and he wasn't intended to be our No. 2.
As an aside, the Rays did really well here. One year prove it deal for a reasonable salary and they consistently have among the worst hitting catchers in baseball. This helps them a bit in that division.
Jed has gone mad with power. And not in a good way.
Since all I do is think about this stuff:
Mariners get Bellinger, Hoerner, Mervis, Wesneski
Cubs get: Castillo, Luke Raley, Mitch Garver, Emerson Hancock, Tai Peete, Logan Evans
I wanted Jansen at the deadline and hoped they would sign him but I kinda gave up on that idea. If they can get him, I'd be thrilled. Solid defender who can hit and with Amaya you can play matchups and have a 1A-1B situation. That's my preference, as I believe in Amaya's future but he should split the workload at this point. What's his possible contract? 2-3 years and 12 mil each?
So what would the framework look like?
Cubs get Crochet
Mariners get Hoerner, maybe a pitcher from either us or the Sox?
White Sox get Caissie, Cole Young, Celestin, Birdsell? Triantos? Rojas?
Crochet is great but he is still a pitcher. I'd feel a bit nervous giving up that much and getting just him in return but maybe I'm being naive.
Hell, maybe this blows up and Robert also goes to Seattle.
My preference is to keep Bellinger. But if we're intent on trading him and blowing things up a bit, what about this wild and unrealistic series of deals:
Bellinger + Paredes to the Yankees for Oswald Peraza, Roc Riggio, Clayton Beeter
Nico to the Mariners for Woo or Miller
Triantos + Jefferson Rojas + Drew Gray + Will Sanders to the Rays for Brandon Lowe + Fairbanks + Cleavinger
Alcantara + Killian+ Mervis (lol) to the A's for Langeliers
Peraza and Shaw handle 3B. All other positions accounted for. Pen gets a closer and a lefty.
