    Steele and Lopez to IL. Trey Wingenter called up for Lopez. No move yet for Steele. My guess would be Killian. We had a good run.

    Thank you for reminding me how long I've been around and how I once liked David Aardsma as a prospect. And Aardsma would go on to be one of just 5 players to play for each of the Cubs, White Sox, Yankees and Mets.

    From MLBTR: He's been a quietly solid reliever the last couple years and pitched well for St. Louis after they traded Dylan Carlson for him.

    With elite defense. And he's doing it with a BABIP that isn't egregiously high. Feels somewhat sustainable. He's in a groove.

    The Giants haven't had a 30 HR hitter since Bonds 20 years ago. That's just insane. And they've won 3 WS in that time! Brandon Belt hit 29 in 2021. And Bonds hit 28 in 2006. Those are their closest since.

    RIP Botey McBoteface. Hollowell has something interesting numbers (and is a Jersey kid!) but that he couldn't stick with the Rockies feels damning.

    I'm hoping that's what it is. At least it would explain (in part) why he's looked off at the plate. Good for Vasquez too. Only got 1 at bat earlier this season I think.

    Assad is a kitchen sink pitcher and he has made it work. Fangraphs did a write up recently about how he's made it work and it seems like it shouldn't last but it does so maybe he's unlocked something. I liked Herz a lot but I always assumed he'd end up a middle reliever. He's getting a shot on a bad team and I will be rooting for him to succeed but I don't think he'll stay in the rotation long term.

    Although I get annoyed thinking about what could have been, I do enjoy seeing former Cubs draft picks and farmhands do well elsewhere. The Astros are getting unlikely solid seasons from Tayler Scott (5th rounder in 2011) and Bryan King (30th rounder in 2019). The 30th round doesn't even exist anymore. And Scott is a cool story, being from South Africa and it taking 8 years to even reach the majors after being drafted, let alone breaking out at 32.

    Is Brennen Davis almost back? I thought I saw something about him hitting again. I selfishly would love for him to get a couple at bats in September with everything he's been through the last couple seasons. Would be a nice story (and send off because he'll probably be a 40-man casualty this offseason).

    I know his upside is limited due to being a reliever and the people who (claim to) know things don't peg his stuff as closer material, but he has passed the eye test easily and has the numbers to back it up. I'm not against giving him a Sept call up and at the very least giving him a chance to make the OD pen.

    Know who else had TJS as a position player and came back fine? Yup, Cole Mathis is the next Bryce Harper.

    I love the idea of going after O'Hoppe. But the Angels have just two interesting catching prospects and they're both several years away. Makes sense they wouldn't budge. I would love for them to resume talks in the offseason or target similar catchers. Do a 1A-1B with Amaya next season.

    We signed pitchers Lucas Luetge, Adrian Houser and Josh Staumont. All have MLB experience and are going to Iowa. Just throwing horsefeathers at the wall and seeing what sticks I suppose. All three have had success out of the pen in the bigs.

    This really sucks. Adbert's one of my faves. He signed a card for me through the mail back when he was in Tennessee and I've been pulling for him ever since. He definitely looked like our closer last year and I had high hopes for him this season. So we won't see him until, what, May or June 2026 at the earliest? And that's if all goes well.

    Alcantara started the season like 1-for-35 so if you take that out, he's OPSing well over .800 on the season. He made adjustments and kept up the pace. Just what you want to see. Shaw has absolutely raked recently. I'm glad all three are getting long overdue call ups. I also do really wanna see how Triantos handles AAA pitching. I'm not the highest on him so I'm curious how he does. Related to the above, Mike Cameron was low-key one of the best centerfielders of his time. He switched teams a lot and only went to one ASG so he didn't get enough credit but he was very solid. A definitely Hall of Very Good inductee. I'd be pleased if Alcantara ends up like that.

    Favorite now: Ian Happ. Coffee lover, major idgaf energy Favorite from last 10 years: Toss up between Rizzo and Baez. 2016 season, great players who had fun personas. What happened to both is a shame. Favorite all time? Toss up between Sosa and Kerry Wood. That 1998 season was a big deal to child me. Irrational favorites: Jon Lieber (an innings eater who just went out and did the job on a team that had Sosa, injured KW and basically no one else) and Mark Bellhorn (the name, the outta nowhere great season, went on to be an underrated big part of the Red Sox WS team)

    Canario is buried on the depth chart but he's still valuable. Mervis is either getting traded in a low-stakes change of scenery deal or he's getting released to go overseas at this point. He didn't get much of a chance but he did nothing with what he was given anyway.

    I think it's the standard "low ceiling, high floor" situation. He probably debuts next season and gives us quality innings and there's value there but a non-closer reliever can only get you so far. I still think it's a quality pick up.

    My guess would be since he's strictly a reliever his upside is limited.
