  1. That's a good deal for the Padres. He's better than Ausmus, who they wanted more. I'm surprised he signed this quickly but I wish him well.
  2. If that's all it takes, I'd do it yesterday. Losing Vitters sucks, but it's basically a given he'd have to go in a Peavy trade.
  3. Good career, even if he was a total dbag. I was also sad when he surpassed Sandberg's career HR by a second baseman.
  4. I just heard from a friend today about this. Is there a super-mute I can use? Mute was okay for Morgan but I doubt it can handle him and Phillips at the same time.
  5. He could have. You have to admit its at least suspicious that he is acquiring the exact players that SD wanted in a Peavy trade. My guess is Hendry sees value in them so he doesn't mind keeping them, but his intention was to acquire them with the hopes of restarting the Peavy discussions, realizing that Towers is likely in a hard place and will eventually revisit things. My guess is that there have been no talks since the last round ended after the meetings, but hendry is well aware of the Padres situation, needing to shed payroll and how bad Peavy wants to be a Cub, so hes trading players who dont have a future with us and stocking up on young pitchers who could potentially interest Towers for when/if talks resume. Yea, that sounds about right. Towers is probably right about them not talking since the Winter Meetings. But Hendry knows what's going on and is setting himself to jump in if/when Towers calls him back and asks to reopen talks. However, we also need to think Hendry wanted these guys in case no trade for Peavy takes place.
  6. Am I ignorant for not knowing who Starlin Castillo is?

  8. Olson indeed has 1 option to use if they need it. I doubt he becomes the 5th starter after his dismal year last year. They'll likely either send him to AAA to start and wait for a pitching injury or let him acclimate to the majors in the bullpen. His upside is probably around Marquis (or maybe slightly better) but to get close to him this year would be a very nice step forward for Olson. I think his upside is better than Marquis, but if he can post Marquis-like peripherals this season, it would be a positive. He's still young enough to grow into a #2-3 starter.
  9. My big hope is that somehow Hendry can get Peavy without giving up Vitters. It's a nice thought, but it's highly doubtful. We wouldn't have enough to give up without Vitters in the deal.
  10. Ha David Akers is doing his best to personally blow this game.
  11. Wow, that's a blown call.
  12. Sigh. But we did know his injury history when we acquired him. This shouldn't be too surprising, even though it really sucks.
  13. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/W/Hank-Williamson.shtml This is the minor leaguer we got in the trade. That ERA looks deceptive compared to his K/9 and walk totals.
  14. we can only hope. Your prayers have been answered boys! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imd7S6Xwh4c Ha, figures.
  15. It looks nice but man, April games won't be fun there.
  16. Is Pat Cline coming up next year?
  17. he's amazing, and the best recruiter at the school. too bad his son his a total douche Yeah this is a lot bigger than people might think. He recruited D-Will, Royster, Butler, Odrick, Maybin and others on this year's team. He's a valuable asset and it would've really hurt to lose him, especially to someone else in the conference.
  18. Maybe something like .240/.320/.400 but after last season he looks done. He showed no glimpses last year of being a good player.
  19. So we got rid of Marquis and now there's talk of Randy Wolf and Jon Garland who are both basically the same player we traded away. Fantastic.
