  1. i can hear dusty already... 'you guys complain when i leave zambrano in, you complain when i take him out.' of course there's a difference between leaving him in to struggle thru 138 pitches and taking him out at 103 when he's cruising. all right, dempster, you have four pitches to throw another strike.
  2. get him out. that was almost a granny.
  3. can't believe z is coming out. nice ab, hollandsworth. enjoy the bench for the next two months.
  4. two walks for corey...one intentional.
  5. Really? I'd trade any Cub if it made the team better. I'm sure KC could put together a nice package for Pie. THE only player on the Royals, or in their system I would even considered for Felix Pie is Zack Greinke. And even then, I still wouldn't do it. Pie is going to be a "special" player, and you don't trade special players. You know this how? Special like Patterson? Or Hill? Choi? Harris? Not doubting Pie has the skill set to do well, but I'm not buying any prospect as being "the next big thing" until they actually prove it. ok, so who on kc's roster do you want for pie since he'll just be another disappointment?
  6. thanks for taking our questions... you've always been a big on-base percentage guy. however, patience and taking walks are not very often associated with the cubs' organization. what has been the organization's attitude toward your approach at the plate? have they encouraged you to be more aggressive, or are they content with you being a guy who walks and uses your speed to turn walks into doubles? also, while in mesa this spring, my brother and i noticed that you were wearing some unusual looking pants while playing in a big league spring game...the part of the pants around the ankles didn't have the usual elastic, so the bottom of the pant leg was very loose. i thought that it was maybe because you got whatever pants were available at the big league park, but then i saw you wearing the same type of pants the next day at fitch. do you do that to your pants on purpose?
  7. Thanks for taking our questions... I enjoy the journal that you do for At the Yard. How did you get approached for a gig like that? Also, have you been able to maintain your five burrito/week average? And I go to Mesa every year for spring training. Being that you seem to be a burrito connoisseur, who would you say has the best burritos in the Phoenix/Mesa area? Thanks again, and best of luck the rest of the season.
  8. Uh....Dusty? What the #@$ else are you going to do with him? they're going to have a footrace tomorrow to determine who gets to bat leadoff. everyone knows the fastest guy on the team bats leadoff. also, if you're small it helps too.
  9. Hill also AVERAGED a little more then 6.1 IP in the minors. This is a not NEW thing. The Cubs need pitchers who can eat innings. And with today's OUTING by Maddux, the Cubs now have three starters who can barely go 5 innings. So, if you don't think the Cubs shouldn't be concern about Hill's (Maddux and Williams) inability to go deep into a game CONSISTANTLY, then you are overlooking a problem. I like Hill, but his stamina tells me, he is a middle reliever dressed up as a starter. You can't have three guys in the rotation, barely giving you 5 IPs per start, you taxed the bullpen TOO quick. And ignoring the problem won't go away. 6 1/3+ per outing isn't good? who do you want out there, bob feller? and hasn't williams gone 6+ in five of his six starts?
  10. Of freaking course it would be a 2:00 start. I have to play golf on Sunday after a couple of partners asked me to join them for a tee time at 1:00. Crap. You can't seriously be considering missing the game to play golf? You can't seriously be suggesting I blow off my bosses? to quote arrested development....there's gotta be a better way to say that. anyway, this is weak. haven't you been one of the people harrassing me for missing an i-cub game or two? No, but that is an oversight on my part. I will certainly make the necessary revisions to my schedule. anytime you get a chance to harrass me, you gotta take advantage of it. i just hope you're not playing backgammon with the rockefellers at the country club when the next group harrassment goes down.
  11. i don't even know if i'd want the chance to interview nomar knowing that i couldn't get his autograph...that would just burn at me. seriously though, great job!

  13. agreed. and don't knock the reds. obviously their six OFer, no pitching strategy has worked out great for them so far...why mess with it?
  14. it was really annoying watching BBTN and hearing reynolds and kruk make it sound like farnsworth sucks. they said he was always getting battered around in the NL, and that they're not sure it was a good idea moving him out of the AL, where he's had some success. and i believed em too, because i trust john kruk's evaluation of players better than schuerholz's.
  15. that really is pathetic. heck, there's usually 4x that many people in peoria just for any ol' weekend game. there was upwards of 9,000 in peoria to see nomar.
  16. it's a good low risk move, as well. if he plays well for the cubs down the stretch, and the cubs make some noise...great...maybe offer him a two year deal. if not, just let him walk, and all you're out is jody gerut (or jd, i suppose). better than giving up the farm for a huge contract/rental that doesn't get you to the postseason.
  17. hey, hendry DOES know what obp means! good deal for the cubs...nothing big, but i honestly don't know if something big would have made a difference anyway. i'm not so sure that this team is an adam dunn away from a world series win. and thank you for not trading hill or pie, JH!
  18. if hill maintained his minor league strikeout rate, he'd be one of the best strikeout pitchers in baseball history. so i guess if that's your expectation, you're bound to be disappointed.
  19. cubs' top two prospects for soriano...who doesn't even play a position of need for the cubs? no thanks.
  20. umm...he's two for two so far. plus 4 1/3 no hit innings vs mil...i'd say he's three for three. but since you warned me, i won't count on any more. who hit his curveball yesterday? in all his major league outings and the times i've seen him in AAA, i dont' think i've ever seen his curve get hit hard. on a board that has overrated every prospect that comes through (sergio mitre = greg maddux!), i'm really surprised that everyone is selling hill so short. everybody keeps ragging on his fb, but i've seen him get some pretty nice swings and misses from some pretty good hitters off his fb. his success is all dependent on spotting his curve, which he has been able to do. the only time i've seen him struggle was in his last AAA start where he couldn't throw it for a strike. they just sat on his fb and teed off on him. but if he throws his curve for strikes, his 'average' fb is fine.
  21. the walker reference is based on the fact that you seem to be looking for sympathy for all the injuries the cards have suffered when it was pretty obvious that larry walker was an injury risk...so was rolen for that matter. the cardinals made their own bad fortune (w/ regard to injuries) when they traded for/signed guys that had an injury history. and, while i haven't heard it from you, enough with people crying about losing molina. i think it was jon miller who said how rough things have been for the cards since they lost their 'stud' catcher yadier molina. just because he plays for the cardinals, doesn't mean he's a stud. he's got a sub-.300 obp for crying out loud. also, it's gonna be tough getting too much sympathy when you have two arms fresh off surgery combining for nearly 30 wins.
  22. i'd like to see those x-rays.
  23. yeah, derrek lee's breakout is real similar to abraham nunez's. they're practically the same player...always have been. and who would have guessed that walker would be injury-riddled when the cards traded for him? he's a young, spry guy who's always been a picture of health. mind-boggling.
