  1. 'where did he get the courage to take that shot!?' um...there was like one second left...did you expect him to just take a knee or something? nah, this shot is too scary, i'll just curl up in a ball.
  2. if winthrop wins, i don't even think most people will be surprised. it seemed like this was 'the' upset that everybody was calling. i was so close to picking winthrop, but i chickened out...i had tenn losing next round anyway, though.
  3. hilarious! you do realize that the the only reason that rusch has had any success in the bigs is because people kept giving him chances. even after he was -- gasp! -- 26. and even after he pitched 20 innings of absolutely terrible baseball...actually well more than 20 innings of absolutely terrible baseball...more like, hmm...1000. age 22: 5.50 era age 23: 5.89 age 24: 12.60 age 25: 4.02 age 26: 4.62 (geez, is this rusch guy ever going to amount to anything...he's 26!) age 27: 4.71 age 28: 6.43 age 29 (finally!): 3.48 age 30 (oops, nevermind): 4.52 great post!
  4. dope struck out as a ph last inning.
  5. sorry i'm not giving more frequent updates from my xm, but i'm getting packed to head down to mesa. :D
  6. but that doesn't mean he can't be an effective pitcher. just b/c you can't consider him a prospect doesn't mean that his career is over at 26. How about putting the Hill dillemma in this context...none of us can predicte the future, so all we can do is analyze trends. How many pitchers who were struggling to break into the bigs at 26 that were relatively healthy up to that point wound up having a successful career? None come to mind. I'm not counting on Hill ever contributing anything to this organization. Doesn't mean he won't, but Hendry would be foolish not to trade him if an opportunity came along to trade him for a need. lots of guys have sucked until they reached 26 only to turn it around. the difference between hill and those guys is that they sucked in the bigs while hill took his lumps in the minors.

  8. xm's going strong... rbi double for walker, infield single (grounder in the hole at ss) for murton.
  9. walker's defense is just killing the cubs today.
  10. what? you don't expect a guy to go from A ball to a dominant big league starter in less than a calender year?
  11. from what i've seen, hill's not very quick to the plate.
  12. I'll say it right now Hill is destined to be a lefty Spicialist and a darn fine one at that. Unless he figures it out late in life, he is 26. thanks for your proclamation. i'll make a note of it. by the way, it's a lot easier to say that certain minor leaguers won't make it (as you've so deftly pointed out, most don't). why don't you rattle me off some guys that you think will make it?
  13. and jeff weaver to salt lake city.
  14. Really? I can tell by the pbp that he is pitching very poorly. apparently he can't hold baserunners either. fortunately for him vladdy swings at everything. at least this inning all (?) the hits have been on the ground. and it all started with a slow infield roller. his biggest problem this inning was his inability to finish off two lefites that he had 0-2.
  15. no kidding? thanks for enlightening me. which is not very frickin' many.
  16. and with rusch, williams, maddux and hill in the rotation, you need someone that can hit the freaking ball. damn it, hill...4-2. Defense and pitching wins. hey, if the cliche sounds good, it must be true. It's not a Cliche and you know it's true. Look at any world series winner the past 3-4 years and you will see Solid D and Great pitching. yeah, i think we all remember boston's '04 team for its flashy defense. oh, and a lineup full of high OBP mashers. hill's had two lefties 0-2...he needs to k those guys.
  17. I'm still waiting for his talent to shine. I mean basically he hasn't shown anything but a above average to great curve ball. I know he's only got 20 innings under his belt in the bigs, but I can't see how in the world you are going to be an effective starter with 1 pitch. He blew Vlad away with two FB's up in the zone. Big deal! He still gave up 2 runs in the first inning. Can you honestly say Rich Hill has impressed you. At all? 190+ k's in 130 minor league innings is pretty impressive. but apparently you're basing your judgment on what he's done since 2:00 today...

  20. one pitch rich (hey, that's a pretty catchy nickname) k's vlad w/ a fastball.
  21. No one has ever said Walker can't hit, but his fielding is very suspect espically with the bad leg. Don't you view him as an more of a American League guy? possibly. but the cubs shouldn't be in the business of giving AL teams DH's for nothing.
  22. In all fairness, those ABs don't really tell you anything. But it would be stupid nonetheless. yeah, but those two ab's are representative of why it would be stupid. in any event, it's stupid.
  23. wow, if the last two ab's (walker's and murton's) don't show you how stupid it would be to trade walker for another lf, i don't know what will.
