  1. hill certainly rose to the occasion tonight. wonder if rusch will do the same tomorrow. i'd still rather have hill out there than marshall...
  2. two one way tickets to chicago, please. outstanding work by hill and aardsma tonight. hill has to be ahead of gooz by quite a bit at this point. pressure's on rusch tomorrow.
  3. it's called aggressiveness. maybe you've heard of it...it wins ballgames. or, in this case, it makes the last out at 3rd when that run is meaningless, and the potential winning run is due up. either way.
  4. big starts abound this weekend...hill, williams and rusch. may the least worst man win!
  5. if clemens comes back, i'll feel pretty good about getting him in the 9th round. i was surprised that patterson, a top 25 SP in 2005, slipped to the 3rd round. hasn't paid off yet, but i think he'll come around.
  6. tim, i have baker, you have liriano. since baker's obviously better, i'll do you a favor and trade you straight up.
  7. has pierre hit the ball out of the infield this week?
  8. i'm also really annoyed by how cold he looks out there. when he gets into the box, it looks like he just can't wait to get out so he can go back to the dugout and get warm. i know he's not from a country where he had to experience many 40 degree days, but, come on, it's not like this is his first spring in the midwest.
  9. i'm open to trading one of my four dominant closers. :D
  10. i guess we just disagree then. i don't think it's ridiculous to assume that a guy will struggle when he first gets to the bigs. most guys do. don't get me wrong, i'd rather suffer through a few outings where guzman struggles than a whole season of rusch continuing to struggle. i'd prefer hill marginally over guzman at this point, but i'd prefer them both considerably over rusch.
  11. Hill pitched well in AAA, but he pitched like crap with the big league club last year. I'd rather see Guzman called up. But I'd definitely take either over Rusch. hate to break it to you, but there's a decent chance that guzman will pitch like crap when he first comes up too. marshall didn't pitch that well in his first start. you just can't expect a guy to hop right into the rotation and put up a 2.50 era. I'm not sure what I said that could have possibly caused you to infer that I'm expecting Guzman to put up a 2.50 ERA, but anyways... he's been in the minors since 2000 and I'm ready to see what he can do at the major league level. i am too. but you don't want hill b/c of the lumps he took last year, and i think it'd be naive to think that guzman won't have similar problems at first.

  13. he wasn't overmatched in the spring. he had some bad outings, but he was also dominant at times. and i think some struggles are to be expected when you jump from AA to the bigs in like four months.
  14. i'd make it based on his previous 200 starts.
  15. i'd obviously prefer guzman to rusch. you know what you're getting with rusch -- crappiness. guzman could struggle, but at least there's potential. i'd take hill too (6 ip, 3 h, 1 er, 6 k's last night).
  16. pfft...let's see barrett do that when it counts.
  17. OBP down to .259. but i think he's still fast.
  18. at least keith foulke had a nice career.
  19. maybe they're going to have him take rusch's spot and call up hill/guzman.
  20. sure did. both against rusch. It'll come out that Rusch tips his pitches I garantee that! The Reds have the secret suace on him somehow. the secret is that rusch sucks. but it's not really much of a secret.
  21. sure did. both against rusch.
  22. nice comeback by beckett. 1st inning: 30+ pitches, 3 walks, 1 hit, 1 run 2nd-7th: 70 pitches, 1 walk, 2 hits, 0 runs
  23. i don't care if it's persuasive, i said i didn't want to have an argument about this in the minor league game thread. Then why accuse me of manipulating stats, mention only career numbers and not look any deeper into his stats in the first place? Doesn't add up. Anyway, we are each welcome to our opinions and, you are absolutely right, the minor league forum isn't the best place for this discussion. Go Cubs! the reason i don't look deeper into his stats is b/c there's nothing to see. he's bad and his stats are bad, bad, bad with the exception of a good part of '04 and maybe half of 2005. and he absolutely sucked today. sucked. but it's not that surprising b/c he's sucked for the majority of his career. hill or guzman needs to be called up, and they both pitched great this week.
  24. this must be one of those rare times that rusch isn't on.
