  1. every time walker isn't in a lineup, i'm afraid he's been traded.
  2. patterson's having a much better spring than slappy mcbuntsingle, that's for sure.
  3. man, if the cubs trade walker and hairston get hurt (as he has been known to), the middle infield of cedeno and neifi has the potential to be flat out awful. oh, but the defense!! if you want to start hairston, whatever...just don't trade walker.
  4. You're supposed to respect the language, whatever the hell that meant. because white people certainly respected the culture of the native americans when we wiped them out/stashed them in reservations.
  5. i only watched from the last few minutes of regulation on. i thought there were a few defensive fouls called on GM that bailed out uconn. and that jump ball call when the GM guy cleanly stripped the ball away was terrible.
  6. geez, the refs gave uconn every chance to win that one.
  7. yesterday len said you don't see pierre get thrown out bunting very often. that's twice in two days. hard to bunt for a hit when the 3b can set up in the batter's lap.
  8. b/c ST is just a small number of innings against guys that are going to be bagging groceries in a couple of weeks (well...sent down the the minors anyway). Wuertz would be on a bus to Iowa right now if it wasn't for Baker taking into account the last couple of seasons. It's only fair that Rusch and Williams get the same benefit of the doubt. Then explain to me why Williams and Rusch seem to be having trouble getting the grocery baggers they're facing and Guzman and Marshall aren't? Either way, my actual point was to ask why it was a foregone conclusion that Williams and Rusch would fill out two rotation spots 'automatically'. Marshall and Guzman haven't proven anything at the ML level. Williams and Rusch have and it counts in their favor. A few ST games are almost meaningless unless you pull a Wuertz. all rusch has proven at the ML level is that he sucks. why do bad innings count in favor of guys as 'experience'?
  9. hill's line... 4 ip, 5 h, 1 er, 0 bb, 4 k's, save. gotta love him keeping the walks down. i'm still surprised that he appears to be third in line at this point.
  10. As best I could determine, Hill had a couple of rocky spells but worked out with only giving up one run. The later innings I can't tell you much. thanks for the updates, by the way.
  11. so 12 innings of one run ball b/w hill, gooz, and marshall? good thing spring training doesn't count for rusch and williams. awesome job by marshall today...couldn't happen to a nicer guy. i still think the 5th spot in the rotation will be determined by who has the best first couple starts in the minors.
  12. I'm starting to like our fifth starter candidates better than the ones we're using for #'s 3 & 4. it's taken you this long? is hill in yet?
  13. huh...baker really does think that other teams don't have scouting reports on young players.
  14. williams needs a good outing today. wonder if he's looking over his shoulder with the youngsters pitching so well. by the way, walker drives a sweet mustang.
  15. everyone rags on hill for having a below average fb, but i don't think i've seen marshall top 90 yet. i don't understand why marshall's stock has risen so high above guzman's and hill's.
  16. when we were down in mesa, my brother was pretty proud of the fact that his hat was nicer than a lot of the players'.
  17. Don't know for certain, but you would assume one or both will make appearances today. Ryu is starting tomorrow, and Maddux on Monday. weird...ryu just threw on wednesday...and not that well. why is he getting starts over hill and gooz? and it seems strange that marshall is starting again so soon. I have no clue. Just looking at the Press notes. it was kind of a rhetorical question...not necessarily directed at you. :D

  19. anybody know if gooz and/or hill will be pitching in relief today? they both threw last on monday, if i remember right.
  20. white people.
  21. Was that the Cubs' wives charity auction? It was originally scheduled for Saturday, March 11 (the day after the game I went to), but that game was rained out. I never read whether the auction was also postponed. that's the one. no sign of petrick the day i was at fitch.
  22. only got to go one morning, but i did get to see infield, pfp's, and some bp. i was pumped for harvey and sing in bp, but neither did anything special. craig had the most impressive bp session, as he was knocking em off the rf fence w/ regularity. epatt looked good too, driving the ball well to both gaps. fontenot was taking infield at 3b. coats was at ss, which i thought was kinda stranage...i thought he had been more of an of lately. sing took grounders at 1b and flyballs in rf. he was also with the AAA group for much of the morning. epatt was w/ the AA guys, and so was craig (when's that guy gonna get a shot at AAA?). craig was at 1b. also, didn't the cubs release carlos vasquez last season? i thought they dumped him after the steroids thing. anyway, he was there. blasko and connolly were both there participating in drills. neither of them threw, but i wasn't there to see any pitchers do any throwing. no sign of hagerty.
  23. i was there sunday morning too. but i left at around 10:30 b/c the rain wasn't letting up. plus, i had to go sit in 40 degree weather + rain at hohokam for three hours. though the rain at hohokam kept the crowd (and bids!) down for a charity auction where i scored a pretty sweet piece of memorabilia that i think you guys will like. i'll post scans later...
