  1. Because it tells us that Dusty has at least some brain activity. the squeeze is little more than a show off move for the manager. it's unnecessarily risky. You have one of the game's best bunters with great speed at bat and someone with great speed on 3rd. Letting Pierre swing away was just as much of a risk. yeah, that hit he got was terrible.
  2. Because it tells us that Dusty has at least some brain activity. the squeeze is little more than a show off move for the manager. it's unnecessarily risky. Not with a great bunter like Pierre hitting. It's not very risky at all. . you do realize that he ended up getting a hit, right? wouldn't you take that over a run scoring sac bunt or a rally killing caught stealing?

  4. why does everyone get so excited for a squeeze?
  5. i didn't know murton had that kind of arm.
  6. i thought the cubs took care of that problem. :-k
  7. that was a rusch-esque pitch by suppan.
  8. yeah, i'm going w/ the astros...especially if clemens comes back. everyone rags on houston's offense, but, like you said, they have fewer glaring holes than the cubs and cards. heck, the brewers offense really only has one obvious hole. I disagree about the Astros offense. Berkman is the only real threat there. Biggio is getting older, Ensberg has been inconsistent from year to year, Wilson is no better than Jacque or Encarnacion, Lane is still a bit unproven, Taveras has little plate discipline, Ausmus can't hit, and Everett's only skill is the sac bunt. biggio may be getting older, but he's still better than miles (and neifi, when he plays). i'd still say he's above average for his position. i'm not counting on either lane or ensberg flopping, let alone both. it's not a great offense, but i feel it's pretty close to both the cubs and the cards.

  10. i never said the cubs' lineup was better...i'm unimpressed with both.
  11. i see wgn spent the offseason coming up with that fancy new font.
  12. walker just punched neifi in the nuts when he was introduced as the 2b.
  13. I see...so both teams have forsaken the #2 spot... :P The Cards lineup is uglier than the Cubs. that's why i don't think the cards will win the central this year. that lineup sucks. they have five black holes in their lineup (six if you count the pitcher). if pujols, edmonds, or rolen slump/get hurt, they're going to have problems scoring runs.
  14. if he was still eligible at catcher, i would have no doubt kept him.
  15. blanco/cedeno will hit 7th/8th, so i bet neifi hits 2nd. a lineup w/ blanco, neifi, jacque and cedeno could really suck.
  16. i should have kept shelton.
  17. mariotti's gone love this attention.
  18. so is dusty. oh, you said dumbfounded.
  19. alou is going to be a dp machine hitting behind bonds.
  20. but rusch has more experience with being terrible than hill. by the way, it looks like rain here in des moines.
  21. no way in hell that's true. i think i saw him k three times in one game in des moines. edit: he struck out 93 times in nashville.
  22. why is this a story? so the cardinals were up by 100 and larussa wanted his pitcher to throw a strike? wow, larussa is a tactical genius and a saint! it's not like wainwright was trying to walk him on purpose and larussa put a stop to it or something. geez...
  23. wow...papelbon! i may have a spare closer to trade soon...
  24. that's the funny thing. for all the havoc he caused on the basepaths today -- way more than one guy will usually cause on a given day -- all it amounted to was ONE run. meanwhile six other guys simply put one good swing on a ball and accounted for TEN.
